USAFA cadets banned from downtown C-Springs

Hey everyone,

I'm new, I've been checking out this site to learn more for my fiance and our future. You all have been very helpful! But I guess I'm a little (more like a lot) naive. My fiance is at the academy as a sophomore. I've never realized that people don't like Academy grads. Is there any particular reason? I do know of some of Nick's (my fiance) friends already think they are better than others-I'm guessing that's a huge reason. Basically, I'm asking because Nick really is a good guy, and I want to let him know the point of views of other people. Also about the baning of the clubs, and C Springs areas...It is kind of crazy, but it's also crazy when people yell and try to start fights with the cadets just because they are in the military. Thanks for any replies though. I appreciate them. :)

Academy guys get a bad rap, but most of them are decent enough. By the time he's been on active duty for, say, six months, no one will care anymore (unless he is one of those "I went to the Academy, I'm better than everyone else" types).

I think it comes from USAFA guys having no real life experience, going straight from high school to the structure of the Academy without any chance to be adults on their own. Again, no one will refuse to associate with him because he's a USAFA guy...just be prepared for the jokes.

Nobody here is bashing guys from the Academy. They're just bashing the Academy itself. Anyone who took another route to commissioning and went through UPT has heard all the stories about about the Zoo and thanked their lucky stars that they were able to get a pilot slot without going through that ass-pain.

Thanks for the response. That's very understandable, most of his friends are like that, and it's rather annoying. I will probably end up teasing him about it too. He actually just told now me a story that a teacher of told them one day. She said a bunch of academy Lts started bossing around some enlisted guys who had been around for a lot longer. It's a shame that some doesn't realize that other people who may not have the rank have far more experience than they do.

Lindsey,

You hear stories about stupid LTs doing things like that. That's why the rest of us call them stupid LTs--the rest of us O's were there too. I don't know an officer that doesn't have a "stupid Lt" war story. Anyway, some Academy guys tend to leave there with a chip on their shoulder instead of saying mission accomplished and moving on. It's probably because they may have a little more bravado then most or too much pride because they endured 4 years of shoe-clerking hell and are now in the "real" AF and think the environment is the same.

Someone posted above that Academy grads have no real-life experience. Untrue. A lot of cadets are prior enilisted or transfers (God only knows why). Personally, I played 2 years of Jr hockey before I went and was 21 as a smack--yes I bought beer or the sophomores and juniors. A lot of us had our illegal apartments in the now banned downtown C-Springs area. I actually even got out all the time when I wasn't on honor, conduct or academic probation. HAHA!

The problem with a lot of Academy guys is that they think that the Zoo is actually representative of the real AF. Unfortunately, just like SOS or ACSC, it is not. It's just a school--a miserable prisonlike school albeit. The fact of the matter is that besides learning to fly, jumping out of planes and playing hockey, the rest of my undergrad education like many other accreditied colleges and universities was purely box-checker--a means to an end. People try and poke fun at me for being a grad sometimes, but it's usually because I don't fit the stereotypical douche-nozzle mold. Please keep in mind that I know toolbags from all 3 comissioning sources, but the highest concentration of social retards is probably coming from the Zoo.

To make sure your finance is normal and adjusted. Send him healthy and regular amounts of pornography to ward off the terrazzo trolls and encourage him to constantly crash frat parties in Boulder or Ft. Collins--worked for me!
