As one of the moderators on here, we all do our best to remove any spam as soon as we can can. But I have to admit I had a spam-related chuckle this afternoon worth sharing...

Some dope spammer posted a thread along the lines of "should I exercise or use diet pills" complete with links to the pills they were pushing. The post even had a person's name at the bottom, and included the "sorry if this is in the wrong forum" comment to try and make it look genuine.

But as that poster just signed up here, had a grand total of 1 post, and there was no mention of the USAF or even the military, it was obviously spam. Maybe not as obvious as the porn spam we get, but pretty easily ID'd.

Well, almost obvious, I guess, as one unnamed individual on here did give a honest, sincere and somewhat lengthy reply of "diet and exercise are better than pills;" which could only leave me to believe that he didn't realize that the original post was spam. Said thread has since been schwacked, but I had to thank that person (and you know who you are) for giving me a good laugh on this dreary afternoon.

Cheers! M2

It appears like every post with the happy face as the thread icon is spam.

That

Plus this = SPAM.

I've fallen for a lot of the porn or Viagra spam while accessing them from work. I had to call IS a few time to inform them it wasn't intentional. IS finally said if you don't spend more than a few seconds on it, it's OK.

But they got me worried that IS might begin to think "we've ourselves a little pervert".

Good call on the smiley emoticons - I just killed three this morning and they all had smileys.

One additional item for moderators --

If you delete a spam post, go into the poster's warning section and click on "disable posting ability permanently". If you have any trouble doing that, PM me (or Baseops) with the user name so we can delete their account.

I think some forums have a trivia question that needs to be answered during the signup process. I could swear I ran into this somewhere. It was a super easy question relating to the topic of the forums, but I could definately see that dramatically decreasing the spam. I'm not sure how it works, but I'm sure its just an addon to the software like the squiggly letters are.

No kidding. I've noticed over the last week that most o' the spam I see has the smiley as well.

I've been disabling posting ability along with disabling the account for 10 days for every SPAM incident.
