I dropped $400 on the scope for my Sig SHR970. I'd like to stay under that.

Aimpoint Pro is ~$400. I have a Millet DMS 1-4x variable that works well.

It's very light. I swapped out the handgrips for MagPul medium length, but that was a bitch. I probably won't get to shoot it for a while, but I've heard the trigger is what leaves something to be desired.

What was difficult about the hand guards? Any tips?

The D-ring on a brand new rifle is a bitch to get down far enough to unseat the original guards. It's really a two person job, but I did it by using both hands (STS) to push down the guard and a flathead screwdriver in my mouth to push one guard off. I guess it you have gorilla strength, that's NA. I don't.

Getting the MOE hand guards on is challenging as well for the same reason, but there's also some tips on the internet about it. You basically need a rubber hammer to tap them into place.

WRT scopes - I have a Trijicon 4 x 32 on my Bushmaster XM-15 and a UTG 30MM 3-12x 44 Compact IE Scope w/Glass Reticle on my M&P-10. I paid $150, but apparently Amazon has them for $100. Seems to be a badass scope, and it is listed by S&W as "recommended accessories" for the M&P-10.

Gotcha. I didn't know if the mid-length MOE required modification to fit on the M&P 10.

I'm on the fence about selling a sweet custom 6.8 upper to fund a new M&P 10. If anyone is interested in the 6.8 let me know.

The mid-length is the only MOE listed for the M&P-10 actually.

It just takes a bit of work to make it fit. It's very snug.

It's a BCM gunfighter so there's enough on the side to get to it. Not ideal.

How do you like the 1-4x scope? Is it pretty durable on a 'tactical' rifle? What's the furthest range you can get out of it and still make precision shots?

My gun porn. The one I lost in the flood looked like this. Simplicity defined and made in 1967.

Edit, pic stole off the interwebs

edit again because I would never have carpet like that

I like the DMS for what it cost. It's been durable. With just a circle reticle and a dot you don't have much to work with for estimating holds. How far you can hit with it is up to you. I think the Appleseed folks say you should be able to hit a man at 500 yards with iron sights.

It's all political BS. He can say Newtown this and Newtown that, but it's all for show to get what he and the majority of his party wants...and to get them closer to what they really want. Nothing voted on today, if had passed last year, would have prevented Newtown. As for the politics, I don't really think it's going affect much either way in the next mid-term election.

Kind of makes you wonder though...the Dems had a super-majority in 09-10...enough to ram through the unpopular Obamacare without a single GOP vote. If the Dems had pulled together they could have easily had passed whatever gun legislation they wanted and it would have been damn near impossible to overturn it since the opposition would later need 60 votes the other way. I'm not saying that all the moderate Dems would have voted for sever anti-gun legislation a few years ago, just saying that they had to party makeup to do it.

AR prices are obviously getting a lot closer to the old 'normal'...I wish AK-74's would follow suit. As for ammo, any price between what it is now and what it was going for back in October will be considered a great deal and will get bought up fairly quickly, which then means it will still take more considerable time to bring down the prices.

Any safe recommendations? From my limited research, it seems Liberty, Patroit and American Security all seem popular. I'm thinking I'll be in the market for a 50-64 gun, safe. I have had 10+ long guns (multiple scopes) and had 10+ handguns and will be buying wish I could buy more. Plus I'd like to have room for ammo random non-gun related stuff/accessories/paperwork/etc... Would like to keep it ~$2k.

Active duty Army Master Sergeant probably told his son that his deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan were a necessary sacrifice to defend freedom against those who use force and don't value liberty. Then while back in the States, he takes his kid out on a walk to work on his Eagle Scout hiking badge and he's legally armed so that he can protect himself and his son. And then this happens, and the kid has to watch his father get disarmed and arrested for exercising his rights and obeying the law while sobbing. In the great police state of Texas!

At that point you're not getting a 'real' safe...rather a Residential Security Container (they look like rated safes and do provide some security). For $2K, if you can afford it, I'd go with either Amsec or Liberty. Don't be fooled into how many locking bolts there are as most of the security comes from the thickness of the steel, which is what drives up most of the price. The fire rating is pretty important to look at as well (in some ways more important).

The best place to put a safe/RSC is somewhere out of sight from a grab and go thief, and preferably somewhere you can bolt it to the floor. So although these companies put a sexy logo and a nice coat of gloss paint on their product, opt to spend the money more on steel thickness/weight and fire protection.

Diamond Back is another company you might want to check out given your constraints.

stupid ass cops video

Wow...that was infuriating.

That guy showed a lot more poise than I would have. I hope those cops get fired and/or he gets a hefty settlement.

Beaver, I'm not even an AR guy and I like that!

On a separate note, with the Senate voting down the Gun Control Bill (54-56), I gotta plug this AK morale patch but even more so as I am its creator!

NameTags4U has 'em available for only $3.50/each plus shipping....

Went to place an order for 10, was told only 2 were available. Hit place order...sorry, sold out! Shit's still going quick.

Copy all on the safe. I figured as much as far as the home security. Just looking to protect from fire and you every day B&E. If someone wants them bad enough, they'll find away.

Damn--sorry man. The good news is that 2 different sites today had them for $13/piece. With today's vote confirming what a lot of us knew from the very beginning (that a ban on mags or long guns would never happen), things are slowly getting back to normal.
