KC-135s out of ENJJPT? He was a bitter dude.

Well damn.  Hate hearing that.  I lived down the hall from him in college and he was a good guy.  We were all stunned when he got tankers but he was also the only guy from our ROTC det to go to UPT for a 3-4 year span so we all thought that was better than nothing.

Standing by for another round of O6 command selection in which no less than a half-dozen-newly-selected wing commanders and vice wing commanders will by mystified (and somehow pissed) that they popped for a UPT O6 command because they were FAIPs once.

    Happens every time (somehow)...

    Chuck

Dude, if you get a UPT command you are taking my ass flying!  I’ll buy the beer afterward, obviously.

chang is one of the best posters we have on this site and a look behind the curtain at the GO level.

Not sure if joking.  I’ve been off on other adventures for a while now so just getting back to BOps….not sure I’ve seen anything from Chang lately that convinced me he is actually a GO.  Pretty sure I wouldn’t be all that impressed if he actually is, as I’m somewhat cynical of most GOs these days based on my first-hand observations.  Perhaps there is at least insight to be gained…”what are those idiots thinking!?!”…sorta thing.

I sure hope so.  I deserve the extra money that another star would provide.

I will say this: for all of you complainers out there:  seriously?  You are complaining Uncle Sam took away your pittance $50K/yr to sign your life away for the next 12 years?  Get over yourselves you premadonna punks!  Get out of my Air Force and go make your money elsewhere.  We don’t need you, and we don’t want you.  But please, for the love of Pete, stop complaining about missing out on table scraps.  It’s so unbecoming of an officer.

Dude, you are more full of shit than a Christmas goose.

Don’t hurt your arm grabbing for that whopping pay raise.  $2-3k a month difference from 1 star to 4 star.  YGBSM.  That’s like…one extra premium pay day at the airline. Might have 2 hours of block time.  This isn’t the flex you think it is.

I do agree about the bonus complaints. Not offering a bonus will save a lot of bros from themselves.  Run fellas, run!!

This is a necessary money move.  Retirees can deal with it instead of acting like spoiled brats.

Spoiled brats…who earned the benefits promised to them.  It’s not unreasonable for there to be some rancor if the deal is changed.

Why not?  They took a washed up FAIP who was his squadron commander's least favorite IP.

I have few regrets from my career but not applying for the U-2 is one of them.  Was encouraged to try it by my former T-37 flight commander who ended up out there and after a basically hostile reaction from my ANG unit (“if you even apply, you’ll go nowhere here”), I never sent the app.  Coulda woulda shoulda! 😑

T-38 then U-2. Expect 3-ish months from checking in to 38 qual. Then 6-8 months for U-2 qual. All done in-house.

That sounds like an awesome deal.  Need any retired tanker guys to give it a go?? Hahaha

Great, sounds like we're having to buy fuel from the Taliban for our aircraft - at least that is what the weasel words coming out of these bureaucrats' mouths seem to indicate:

The press has these fools tap dancing.  I also love how the Army 2-star can't answer a simple question without looking over at the Ministry of Truth (Kirby).

ADD HIS NAME TO THE LIST OF FOOLS THAT SHOULD RESIGN!!!

You know they’re doing a truly shitty job when even the left-leaning press is on their ass!

A complete embarrassment and tragedy.  Resignations from these clowns at a minimum.

For the uneducated, can you explain "fix it" email?

“Fix It” meaning your application.  There’s a missing date, or employment timeline error, or some other incomplete info. Basically, they’ve actually reviewed the app, so fix this so we can give you an interview.

I knew one that made just shy of 700k that year.  He showed me his profit sharing, which was impressive.

    ...

But man, what a great conversation, eh?

That’s some serious coin.  I honestly don’t know what I’d do with that much money.  Well, besides (more) hookers and blow.

Yes, what a great convo to have.  From “holy shit the entire industry could collapse” back to full flights, crowded airports and profit sharing.  Thank God.

Them specifically? No. People at Delta who know them? Yes.

Like I said, it was only a few guys qualified on a new plane with a totally FUBAR training process. So every month they started by having their entire schedules bought back by the company for training. At Delta you can double dip, so if you have your schedule bought, then pick up a bunch of green slip trips (200%) to replace it, that's 300% of a normal schedule. At the highest pay rate.

I suppose it’s possible with OE buys and GSWC, but pulling that off for an entire year would be difficult.  I’ll keep my eyes out for these unicorns once I’m reinstated.

It's true, but it was an issue with the A350 training capacity that allowed a few (I think 3?) Captains to make a killing. Once they finally fixed the glitch, their incomes returned to "normal."

Not that this is anything worth arguing over, so don’t take this that way please, but you’ve actually talked to pilots that no-shit topped $1M?

    $1M - 16% 401k - 16% PS = $743,000

That’s $62,000/mo average, or about 175 hours of pay at $353/hr (A350 captain).

I know the 350 rollout was a fiasco, but averaging that many hours a month would be very difficult.  Kudos to them if they did it, and please teach me how!

Active duty guys take note...we are actually discussing whether a pilot made $1M to fly the newest airplane in the fleet, maybe 12-15 days a month.  YMMV.  Choose wisely.

The highest paid pilot at DAL for a few years was a narrowbody FO.  That is until 2019 when they couldn't compete with the 7-figure 350 captains.  Let's just say you won't miss the AF's paycheck if you land at any major airline.  We might be singing a different tune during COVID 2.0, but short of that, you'll be ok on the outside.

From everything I have heard, the 7-figure Captains were a juicy rumor.

There was one guy who banked 272 hours in a month (272x$353=$96,000, plus $15,000 in 401k contribution), so I think the rumor mill started with the logic leap that if he had kept that up EVERY month he would have cleared $1M.  I had also heard 11 guys topped $1M but can’t find anyone who actually knows these guys.

I will add that said Captain always bought dinner and drinks for his entire crew of 13 people.  Class act and very nice guy.

I think the Citation Mustang or one of the other VLJs would have been a good option with an upgraded gear. Cheap to acquire (until AF acquisition manages to up), cheap to operate, and the only setback might be a height limitation.

Cirrus Vision Jet would get the job done at less than $2M a copy.

My concerns is the steadily decreasing amount of air under the seat.  All the VR or sim time in the world does not present the problems associated with the real world.  In the last couple years, there have been numerous accidents resulting in the loss of aircraft and life and these accidents were supposedly benign takeoff and landing events.  WTF is up with that?

Agree with this 100%!  It doesn’t matter which track or MWS either (while some are obviously more challenging)...experience matters.  Graduating pilots with 300 VR hours but only 69 actual flight hours just doesn’t make sense.
