  1. Music video for one of the new Top Gun soundtrack songs by (don't shoot the messenger) Lady Gaga recently released; made me chuckle to see what Navy pilots like to fly on their own time:
  2. Not the only one yesterday: https://apnews.com/article/wisconsin-b546a8687a52522d8be3a312b2c57784 Volk Field commander relieved of duties after investigation CAMP DOUGLAS, Wis. (AP) — There has been a change of command at the Volk Field Air National Guard Base in Wisconsin. Col. Leslie Zyzda-Martin has been relieved of her duties as commander of Volk Field at Camp Douglas. The National Guard said in a statement that Brig. Gen. David W. May ended Zyzda-Martin’s command Monday due to “lost confidence in her ability to lead.” “This is a very difficult decision, but it is the right thing to do in the best interest of Volk Field,” May said. “The men and women that make up Volk Field are extraordinary at what they do. It is my obligation to ensure they have the type of leadership that will meet the unique needs and challenges of our state and federal missions.” The guard’s statement said the decision was made following investigations that revealed issues concerning command climate and alleged misconduct. Additional investigations are ongoing....
  3. Interesting article about CFR services at the field. Their crash rig is* stationed at the airport but is* only staffed during the hours when passenger service is in operation. *Article is from 2019 so things may have changed. https://www.aviationpros.com/aoa/aircraft-rescue-firefighting-arff/news/21107389/lewiston-airport-board-agrees-to-pay-the-city-for-fire-service

  8. My first Oshkosh was '76; I was in the stroller then. Have missed only 1 year since. But I had a family connection; my grandfather and EAA founder Paul Poberezny served in the WI ANG starting in '48 and were livelong friends. Gramps actually ran the crash crew for the first fly-in back in '52 as a favor for Paul. 250 would be a sight to see; guess I was going off the roughly 100 listed on the aircraft list. https://ww2flyover.org/participating-aircraft/
  9. Sounds like a cool event but I'm guessing you've never been to Oshkosh? 🙂
  10. Ugh; sorry about that. That's what skimming Twitter for news will get you.
  11. I'm so confused.; industry press saying OA-X is dead. https://www.defensenews.com/smr/federal-budget/2020/02/10/sorry-sierra-nevada-corp-and-textron-the-us-air-force-isnt-buying-light-attack-planes/
  12. A nice collection of old iron, at use in their post-military careers.
  13. Being just a civilian and aviation buff, I lurk around this forum, posting the odd YouTube link and sharing what others post with some old timers. But since we're remembering those who have gone before us, tip one back for this guy for me, gone just over a year now. He wasn't an astronaut, or a fighter ace but he dedicated his career to the Air Force & the WI Air Guard. All were glad to know him; I was lucky enough to be his grandson. https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/obituaries/2018/09/30/kenneth-sweet-survived-pearl-harbor-helped-found-wisconsin-air-guard/1480905002/ https://dma.wi.gov/DMA/news/2018news/18155

  18. There should be some photos in this thread as it gets updated. Just don't ask the Sec AF for her photos; she'll be bumming them off the web just like the rest of us.
  19. It's all fun and games at the range until you manage to down your wingman, and yourself. Great video; things get a bit western at 14:45.
  20. For those interested in hearing the fire mission in action, there's some good traffic of the tankers working the Camp fire near Chico, CA available here during daytime hours: https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/20854/web If looking for a phone option, I use the Scanner Radio Deluxe app
  21. Kermit Weeks copiloting the Martin Mars: Don't believe this has been posted before. Soundtrack gets a bit wonky at the end.
  22. Nice OV-10 film from the '70s, including a few seconds of Bob Hoover at the stick. Don't believe this has been posted before:
  23. The Air Boss during the air show is great listening, particularly during one of the larger air shows on Friday and Saturday. Neat insight into what goes on behind the scenes to make that show happen. The air show video is streamed live here.
