Sadly, this is another "it depends" answer.

In my squadron alone, it will be 11 months between OTS and UPT, for me it was 4 months, for another guy it will be 3. The guy before all of us only waited 2 months.

This all just came from what was available in the FY by the time packages were approved by NGB. There's not really a "standard" wait. I'd say plan on 18 months from hire to UPT at a minimum. If it's faster, awesome.

Reserves seems to move a good bit faster once the board has met. I know a few guys that were in training 6-9 months after being hired. And if I remember correctly, they won't send you to OTS until you can follow on almost directly to your UPT base.

Sent from my SM-N975U using Baseops Network mobile app

When your in-between ots and upt, are you on full time orders or can you go back to your civilian job?

Absolutely noticing that trend as well!! I can attribute to a couple things.

1.) Airlines are no longer hiring due to the pandemic/loss of demand.

2.) Top Gun 2? Maybe a few from there even though it’s not out yet.

3.) C.W. Lemoines “Make them tell you no” YouTube channel. I know this seems obscure but I’m sure many of us in the application pool follow him. He offers amazing advice and just a great dude from the videos I’ve seen. However the popularity of his channel has EXPLODED in the past year, he just passed 250,000 subscribers recently. So maybe a mix of new people being motivated or people who didn’t think they were qualified throwing an app in to “make them tell you no”.

Just my .02, cheers and good luck to you! Hope to see your “I just got picked up” post soon!

Speaking of your first point, do you think it's feasible to say that less pilots are retiring from the guard and going to the airlines (due to obvious events), therefore slowing down the applicant pipeline? Basically if no one leaves the squadron, there is no need to hire new off the street hires...

Figured I'd drop in my timeline.  Hired off the street at a Guard fighter unit.

    AFOQT/TBAS: February 2019

    Board: May 2019

    Hired: May 2019

MEPS: February 2020 (6 month wait due to Lasik in May 2019)

    Swore in: March 2020

    FC1: End of June 2020

    OTS: August 2020

    IFT: November 2020

Will update with UPT dates once I get them.

Crazy quick from FC1 to OTS! Is that a normal time frame?

  4. Folks that got selected for an interview with the 106 Rescue wing (101st rescue sq.) HH60s, did you receive an email? I got the interview invite for this Wednesday June 10, and they said there would be a follow up email, but nothing yet.

Also any word on the B1s out of Dyess? Apps were do mid this week

Just got a callback from the 106 RQW. Looks like interviews are next week. 20 personnel being interviewed. Options for Zoom, phone call or in person. Good luck to all!!

Just got the call too. I applied to both the C130 and HH60 gig, looks like the interview is for the C130. Guy over the phone said HH60 interviews will be given out in a few weeks.
