  1. OCP is the pattern. ACU is Airman Combat Uniform. A2CU is Airman Aircrew Combat Uniform.
  2. Problem solved! ""Sometimes instead of trying to create more aircrew, if we create more support personnel or keep the aircrew we have healthy, we can get more production out of" fewer people, Koscheski told Air Force Magazine." http://www.businessinsider.com/air-force-progressing-on-pilot-shortage-but-struggling-with-training-2018-7
  3. Need this guidance in PowerPoint or it didn't happen...
  4. But the AF isn’t throwing money at anyone...
  5. New Pilot Shortage interview with NPR https://www.npr.org/2018/07/07/626800470/air-force-faces-pilot-shortage.
  6. How does the EC community feel about that? Guessing 2025ish is the end date?
  7. What’s the timeline on the EC replacement? edit: never mind. Google founds it. Looks like things are on hold while Boeing, Bombardier, and L3 protest so... who knows. edit 2: blast. Tricked by Google timestamp. I guess L3 has the contract and needs to work out a contract for the GS?
  8. Solution. Roll all support positions underneath the ops squadrons that they support. That would make them directly responsible to the Commander that needs to hack the mish, and more importantly, decreases the number of Squadron Christmas parties by the same number as support squadrons we get rid of, plus builds in volunteers for the ops squadron Christmas party.
  9. I heard they’re not offering it anymore, because it’s not about the money. Flight pay is also being canceled, along with BAH in all locations where base housing is an option. There is also talk about capping pay at the Captain level. Since money is not important and you should only stay in to serve. (Forget about age 43 to 100... you won’t need money for that)
  10. Friend of patient: "What is it doc?" Doc: "It's cancer." Friend of patient: "Oh crap. Well we can't tell him that." Doc: "What? Why not?" Friend of patient: "Well you can say whatever you want, but that won't play well. He has made it clear that he doesn't think it is cancer and trying to convince him otherwise is not going to be a good use of time. It won't be an effective message for this audience." Doc: "Uhm. It's cancer."
  11. Please. Let’s not play the race card.
  12. "Air Force enlisted pilot implementation initiatives The committee directs the Secretary of the Air Force to provide a briefing to the House Committee on Armed Services not later than March 4, 2019, on the plan to implement the enlisted pilot aircrew requirements of Section 1052 of the FY17 NDAA for the MQ-9 enterprise of the Active, Guard, and Reserve components of the Air Force. Furthermore, the committee directs the Secretary of the Air Force to submit a report to the congressional defense committees not later than April 1, 2019, on the costs, benefits, and feasibility of authorizing enlisted Airmen or Warrant Officers as pilots, navigators, or weapon systems operators on all Air Force aircraft or rotorcraft platforms. The report should also assess and explain any policy or guidance impediments that would preclude enlisted Airmen or Warrant Officers from serving as pilots, navigators, or weapon systems operators."
  13. Reread my post and I came off way more blunt then I intended. I actually didn’t intend to come off that way at all. Thanks for the moderated reply. You’re right. 300k in 40s would be for a guy who gets out at end of UPT commitment.
  14. Google “net present value of an airline career vs military retirement” and read the first page of links... you’ll make a lot of net present value of an airline career vs military retirement” you’ll make a lot more money if you accept the facts. Try $300,000 a year in your 40s.
  15. My calculations show that getting out at 12 YOS, joining the Guard and flying for the majors for 8 years, then “retiring” from both, murders the active duty check of the month club if you have the discipline to live on senior captain pay and save everything above that. If you suck at saving or investing and need someone to pay you twice a month then you should not think about getting out. Second best scenario, again purely by the numbers, is staying until 20 and then flying for the majors for 7 years. If they’re still hiring... Of course, in either case, if you continue flying for the majors until 65 you’ll just be stupid filthy rich in retirement... as long as you don’t spend $200,000+ a year. BUT this doesn’t account for QOL or job satisfaction. If you love coming to work everyday in the worlds greatest Air Force then getting out might not be worth it to you, even for a Ferrari or two in your 70s.
  16. On the other hand, what's a guy supposed to believe when literally every time he sit downs to get the ground truth he is told that money won't help?
  17. I would never voluntarily leave my family for more than a few months... the military will involuntarily force you to leave them a lot more than that over the course of a career and that is time you will never, ever get back. And then you die. Better to be on your death bed with kids you raised and had the joy of watching grow up. I would say try to find a way to keep them with you. If you can't do that... stay with them.
  18. Senator: You requested $35k for the bonus... is that enough? CSAF: It is.
  19. Right. I’d be at the bottom of the top candidates, with the 45 day-only guy at the very bottom. Makes perfect sense.
  20. So you can have 5 short tours, but if you were lucky enough to get a break for 5 years (or if you are in a job where you're TDY a lot, but never "deployed") you'll be at the top of the list, with guys that have only ever deployed 45 consecutive days in the last 5 years. Tha AF and all their clever equations... *facepalm*
  21. #metoo AND automatic DNPs for anyone who does it prior to their third look for in res. Only exempt those who request not to be looked at for in res. We don’t want people to become commanders who are willing to waste their time... because they will likely be willing to waste everyone else’s too.
  22. Been wrong all this time! What are the locations for C-12 white jets? Yokota and Elmendorf.
