Do you have to contact them for them to apply the SCRA policy or is this done automatically once the loan is procured?

Being in a similar situation years ago, I wish I would have gotten some guidance back then that would have saved me a lot of time in the process. With that said, I'd highly recommend guard or reserves over AD. Things worked out in the end and I'm a currently a reservist in pilot training. Best advice, Take advantage of TA and CLEP/DANTES exams to get your Associates Degree and CCAF Associates degree. many universities offer classes on base a couple of days a week. Go to the education office to look whats available at your Base. The exams are free to take the first time and they give you full college credits. Once the CCAF is complete, educate yourself on the AU-ABC program provided by the Air Force. In which you can transfer the full 60+ credits you have obtained through your AFSC and the classes you have already taken to a participant college/university to complete the bachelor's. (this would save you a lot of time in school) You can complete the bachelor's in less than the 3 years you have left and could possibly get your PPL in that time as well. By the time you separate, you can decide to either join a guard/reserve unit(or just get out completely) and start rushing/applying to units in locations you want to live, already meeting the basic qualifications. Your understanding is correct. The only change is in how often the AFRC boards occur. Up until recent, only two boards were held per year. One in the summer and one in the winter. Now they are having a board every two months. Candidates will continue to require sponsorship by an unit or send their unsponsored application directly to the board via a recruiter.

This is correct, and it can be frustrating since there is no guidance. But nothing worthwhile comes easy so don't let that discourage you. you can look on http://www.guardreservejobs.com/ to see available spots for guard and reserve. If don't see the unit that you would like to apply to on that site, then you will have to do the leg work of finding phone numbers for the squadrons and asking the chief pilot when will they be having their next board. Best advice I can give you is to go visit the units you are interested in and have some face time with as many people as possible. Good luck.

The next AFRC board will be 5-6 Sept 2017. AFRC will then begin hosting UFT boards every other month (Sept, Nov, Jan, Mar, May July). UFT packages are due no later than close of business the final day of the month prior to each month a board is held.

The reason he most likely he chose that route is because he did not find a fighter unit to sponsor him and he did not want to end up in a heavy as he was already a Nav.

It is ok to have that sentence in your letter of recommendation. Active duty, Reserves, and Guard are just different components that make up the entire U.S. Air Force.

I'm sure Boeing will have something to say if the contract goes to some other company.

The next AFRC Board 17-01 will be held 16-17 May. Apps are due Apr 28th. Unsponsored applicants will be considered.

It seems like the boards are having a quicker turn around time than usual. Not that anyone is complaining.

Looking pretty good overall. GPA is a bit on the low side. Associated GPA does not matter. Being enlisted and having face time helps as long as you are a good dude. Now you have to show them how much you want it. Best of luck to you!

Numbers could be good or pretty darn good depending on what you are going for (Fighters or Heavies). Your rated numbers (Pilot 94, PCSM 94) are excellent. I've seen people get selected with numbers lower than yours. AFOQT is not everything. Just make sure the rest of your package is on point to make up for the lower scores and ultimately, your personality and attitude will determine if you are the best fit with the unit you are applying to.
