  1. Does anybody know how "reserve" points count towards your retirement if you trip an AD retirement?
Here's the situation, I will be tripping 20 years TAFMS, but will have 6-9 months of reserve time (drills, AFTPs, membership points, etc.). I know I'll qualify for the immediate pay check, but how does that added time - which doesn't "count" toward the 20 - play in? If at all?

I don’t think it plays in. Once you hit 20, each day you work adds to your TIS.

  2. Question for the crowd.
Does anyone know of opportunities that will allow you to collect your retirement, but also retain the ability to go on orders for short periods of time?
    Examples could look like:
    1. Part-time technician that could do things like sit alert from time to time.
    2. White jet instructor (DSG/ART) that can turn a few sorties a month at a UPT base.
    3. A "points" only gig like USAFA liaison officer - not sure if something like that would even qualify for USERRA.
Why? To be able to collect basically the full retirement, keep flying military jets, and also retain full USERRA control over one's airline schedule when necessary.
Just looking to the crowd to see if there's stuff out there I'm unaware of as I approach my date.

Yes, it’s the indispensability program which is a 2 yr TR contract.

I know multiple people who have done it recently, and they are rewriting the regs to make it easier.

You have to find a unit in need of manning and be in a needed career field such as a current 11F.

  3. No way they let him come back to fly fighters. I wouldn’t want him, unless he’s a phenomenal dude who’s going to be a badass OG or WG/CC, and the AF isn’t going to let him be one of those. I hope he realizes working on staff or in an AOC is not going to scratch the “I miss fighters” itch.

I’m following the process and will keep you guys updated.

Honestly knowing the guy, I think he’d be spun up to be an FTU IP pretty quick and do it better than some of the foreigners we have to spin up.

I wouldn’t think we’d waste 6 months TX/IPUG for 1.5 yrs of instruction…..then I realize it’s the USAF so economics make no sense. I’ve seen worse.

  4. Can’t hear tone over text, I’m sure it would sound different if we were in person. I’m not butt hurt, just didn’t seem productive.
I’ve been working at it for a few years now after not getting rated out of rotc. And I understand guard is more competitive, I dipped my toes in the guard world last year and know I’m going against 100-200 other people for a single slot, but the risk could be worth it with their unit and airframe. I’ll probably take you up on your offer, I’ve been using any resource I can get. Should know if I’ve got an AD slot this week.

Next time post your situation so we can guide you based on specifics. Sounds like you are not a cadet so your situation probably has some specifics people on here can help with.

  5. Nobody is hating on you kid.

But if this is how you react to a little ball busting on a forum, trust me you don’t want anything to do with the fighter community.

    1. Your dream of flying fighters is like 96.69% of every other kid going to UPT. If everyone could just walk into a guard sq and get a fighter, everyone would do it.

    2. Yes, I’d accept the CSO slot then work up. If you couldn’t get to UPT on AD, the guard reserves is much more competitive unless you are “special”.

    3. I cannot tell you how many times we see young Gen Z types l, some with golden resumes, internal recs and a lot of experience think they can just show up and get a job to find out that 69 people are competing for 1 spot.

Good luck. Again, nobody hating, if you need genuine advice go ahead and DM me, but I sarcastically replied to your post as I would a student fighter pilot.

Grow some thicker skin, lose all
Sense of entitlement. Reach out for real advice.

  6. Well you clearly deserve a fighter so if it looks like you gotta compete on active duty, you should just go to your guard unit of choice and tell them you want the first UPT slot available which fits your schedule. Make sure you request Sheppard so you don’t have to be around non fighter types. I’d hate you to be dissuaded by as the big blue does.

  7. Want to fly fighters?

Step 1. Find a ANG fighter unit that needs a quota because it’s overmanned with white males where you won’t have to compete to get there.

Step 2. Min run the training system, if anyone questions you not meeting standards, request a new UPT flight, different IPs or different FTU unit.

Trust that the system will ensure your success thru unlimited pandering regardless of your actual potential as a combat asset.

    Based on a true story.
