  1. That's what we were told at a WG/CC call about a week ago. The AF is looking to make all the cuts up front and save that money going forward so sequestration will be slightly less painful for the next five years.
  2. More government than insurance, I'll bet. When you have an organization that has no incentive to keep costs down, you create organizations willing to take advantage downstream by getting every dollar they can.
  3. What's your hurry? It's not like the first VSP window opens in a week or anything.
  4. Easy to say with your #1/xx. How about #5/10, who you want to retain and push, and now he says he might want to get out. #6/10 has proven to have a receptive attitude and wants to improve. Do you hold on to #5, who wants out, and kick out #6, who wants to stay? BTW fellas, unless my experience is well outside the norm, you're gonna end up writing your own RRFs. So if you apply for VSP and get denied, but you still really want out...just write the shittiest RRF you can, letter or no. Use all those "continue to challenge" or "one of my best" bullets from when you were an LT.
  5. If you can't do something smart, do something visible.
  6. But the question is, why are we (the AF) acting like we need to toss all 25,000 before the end of FY14, instead of evening out the cuts. Hell, even if we go 5000 people a year, that's still a better solution than axing all 25,000 at one go. I've seen the "star player handed a shitty assignment due to VSP application" though.
  7. Will we exhaust voluntary measures first? Seems like that ship has already sailed. http://www.airforcetimes.com/article/20131217/NEWS07/312170022/Air-Force-announces-rollbacks-speed-separations Edit: This was a nice bonus, just in time for Christmas:
  8. As congressman can tell you, the people receiving entitlement spending are a much larger voting block than the military.
  9. 1,900? Our WG/CC briefed we're looking to cut 5,000 officers and 20,000 enlisted.
  10. Because my lone voice in the wilderness means less than nothing to a senator from a state as large as TX.
  11. http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/12/news/economy/military-pensions-budget/index.html CNN article about it. Doesn't say much we didn't already know.
  12. And after they deny you, they'll make you submit an RRF to avoid being RIFed.
  13. Next up, removing the chapels from base property.

  15. So they're fine with the military "tracking" Santa, just not flying in formation with him?
  16. Used to have a DO who would write lengthy emails, then put BLUF at the bottom. The rest of the squadron took to using BLAB as a response. Back to arguing about what the Zoomies add to the Air Force, other than a group of people who promote in front of their ROTC brethren.
  17. More witch hunts, this time for any references to drugs and drug culture in the squadron.
  18. It's fine, you'll burn those hours through September to avoid selling them back.
  19. I haven't seen much improvement under our current CSAF. What I've seen is a game of political chicken played over and over again regarding the budget, extreme knee-jerk reactions to several accusations of sexual harassment, and a LOT of talk about taking care of our people while the DoD looks for ways to cut benefits, pay, and retirements. I was excited about our new CSAF too, but I haven't seen a whole lot of change. At least now, wing leadership tells me they want to be "respectful of my time" before they task me last-minute with some queep-related data-gathering.
  20. Of course, they were immediately re-assigned outside of the infantry MOS, but still.
  21. So, when will we incorporate this little gem into the SARC training?
  22. On the bright side, seems like it's a pretty easy job to get out of. http://rt.com/usa/air-force-nuclear-missiles-010/
  23. In my community, it is very rare for patches to be evaluators until they have a leadership position (DO, CC, OGV, etc). For the same reason...patches are there to instruct. Evaluators are there to judge. If you have your primary tactical instructors constantly evaluating, it makes them far less approachable, especially by the young guys who have only ever done a checkride during the B-course.
