  1. new contract has been in place for 2 months now. If there were going to be shenanigans, they would have happened by now. We're all professional enough to do our jobs even if we aren't wearing tan flight suits anymore. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
  2. better dust off the dropped object report...
  3. my current lot is .155 acres, and feels a tad small in the back yard for me (but I don't and won't have anyone behind me because it backs up to a designated open space). .2 acres would be a definite improvement, that's an additional 2000 sq ft of yard space over what I currently have. The ultimate goal is to not feel my neighbors looming over and around me. Thanks for the input!
  4. I'm not sure how far east I want to go. That situation sounds similar to what's going on east of ABQ in Cedar Crest/Tijeras/Edgewood. I don't want to be super remote, and if that means a smaller yard, I guess I'll have to make a real-time decision. But, I'll definitely go check these places out if I can when I'm there next weekend.
  5. thanks for all the replies so far, guys! I'll try to drive around and get a vibe for the areas mentioned when I go up for my face-to-face interview next weekend.
  6. Who has some recent gouge about Hill/Ogden, etc? I've got a possible job opportunity there and need some vectors on where to narrow a house search. Looking for an area that doesn't have houses right on top of each other (aka decent yard size), near "things to do", outdoor activities like hiking, etc, and near good restaurants (cool locally owned places, not national chains). Quality of schools is not something to factor into my decision (no kids). Low crime area, and within say a 20 ish min drive to base. I don't want suburban boring. This could potentially be a long-term situation if it works out. North of base in Ogden? South of base anywhere? To the west?
  7. I'm in NM. Let me know if you're licensed here, and if so I'll reach out.
  8. I've owned my current home for 21 months now - rate is 3.375%/30 yr. Are there any VA IRRRL loans out there that will beat this rate enough to make sense doing? I'm not interested in a higher monthly payment, so a 15 yr IRRRL would have to really beat that rate for me to consider.
  9. By "we" you mean the 413 FLTS/88 TES, not any of the operational. Moody and Kirtland are getting the first birds, in FY21 (4 to each location). FY21 is IOC. ETA: You forgot to list Kirtland in your order of PCS locations. Here's what I'll say about Kirtland...you're back in AETC, so getting tapped for a deployment is much diminished. However, it's AETC. At a minimum I would put it above Moody in rank order. After that, it really depends on your priorities (aka teaching the noobs, family vs hacking the mish at least four months out of the year). Most of my career I had zero interest in being a schoolhouse IP, but I eventually hit my fill of deployments (7), and that assignment started looking pretty good.
  10. That is the most horrible idea I've ever heard. I was at Moody when we were sharing with the AETC folks, and we were lucky if we got 1 hr of range time at Grand Bay twice a week, because the T-38s needed that airspace for their overhead pattern to 18L/36R. Grand Bay Range is a 30 second flight east of the runways. And the next closest range we can use is Avon Park, 2 hrs flight time away, followed by the Navy water ranges 30 miles off the coast of JAX...Gunnex AA and BB, 2+15 away. And then the AETC MX folks required all the ramp ballpark lighting to be on at night so they could see to do their MX, which meant we had to ask nicely for them to turn it off for an hour at night so we could shoot at Grand Bay without getting blinded every time we turned east (restricted firing fan meant fires to the south only, on an east/west axis), even though all the AETC aircraft were parked under sunshades that they refused to provide lighting to. And 50% of the time they whined enough that we couldn't get the lights off. Which then lead to several KIOs because we couldn't see each other while shooting. FML. And having to hold waiting for all the T-6s to land because they were worried the student pilots would freak out when the helos came into to land on the helipad didn't help matters. Now the issue isn't getting range time from the T-38s, it's sharing the range time with all the other users on base (the primary DZ for the 820 BDG is on Grand Bay Range, and of course the A-10s like to go brrrrrrt on a daily basis, too).
  11. I assume you don't need the helicopter pilot's take on low level...
  12. the other jets had enough gas to remain airborne... "After (Turner) ejected from the aircraft, we did confirm from one of our aircraft that we kept airborne that he was OK on the ground, in terms of being able to walk around on his own accord," from the Gazette article.
  13. so maybe that pic of him shaking POTUS' hand is so POTUS could say oops, my bad.
  14. Tbirds cancelled at Kirtland this weekend. Prayers to the Blue Angel's family.
  15. anyone find LiveLeak ATC comms from the Tbird crash? I read a separate article quoting the Tbird/CC saying he had an engine malfunction, and had the gear down trying to bring it in when he had to puch out at the last second after steering the jet away from houses, etc
  16. Rescue had to do that in 06 for a short-notice POTUS support tasking. We sent someone TDY to the State Dept to hand walk our paperwork through to get the brown passports on 24-hr turn around. Since most folks already had a tourist (blue) passport, we sent those along in lieu of a notarized birth certificate. Since that experience everyone's been required to get a brown passport as part of their inprocessing checklist.
  17. Flaco, "in writing" could just be a given SQ/CC's policy letter. Doubt you'll find that online. Why do you need it "in writing"?
  18. Use the search function to find a thread that's already created related to fighter porch stuff. It's not that hard. The pinned thread at the top of this page "READ THIS FIRST!!!!" goes into great detail about using the search function and not creating a new thread if there's already one about the same topic. I haven't searched for your topic since it's not a topic I have interest in, but I can definitely recall several threads related to fighter assignments over the years I've been on this board. Good luck with the search function!
  19. someone dropped KC-46s in the last UPT drop (check that thread). Search function has in the past had issues with searching for things that are three letters or less...not sure if that is still an issue.
  20. are you trying to hijack a thread that's solely about Homestead and SOCSOUTH? Pretty sure there are more appropriate places for you to post your question.
  21. 11H isn't just Helicopter pilot, the official AFSC is Rescue Pilot. Includes HC-130 bubbas.
  22. my AOs started within a week of starting UPT. I know the OP won't have AOs if he hasn't started pilot training, but you DO have AOs while you're in UPT (or at least you did 14 years ago).
  23. ABQ doesn't smell. Major airline with direct flights around the country, great for that odd 4 day weekend while you're in training. Depending on time of year, 2 hr drive to excellent skiing (Taos, Red River, etc). 3ish hrs to Wolf Creek.
