  1. Louis Zamperini has died at 97. :salut:

LOS ANGELES -- Louis Zamperini, an Olympic distance runner and World War II veteran who survived 47 days on a raft in the Pacific after his bomber crashed, then endured two years in Japanese prison camps, has died. He was 97.

Zamperini's death was confirmed by Universal Pictures studio spokesman Michael Moses. A family statement released early Thursday said Zamperini had been suffering from pneumonia.

  2. Stories like this make me shake my head and wonder what is going in this country. Then I see this story about a garbage man that understands what the flag means. And he does the right thing without running to twitter or FB. http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/us/2014/02/22/dnt-patriotic-garbage-man-saves-flag.katu.html

  3. From today's New York Times:

In later years, General Risner participated in reunions of airmen. At a gathering in the 1990s, he met a Russian MIG-15 ace who had been in Korea at the same time. The other pilot wondered if they had ever faced each other in combat.

“No way,” General Risner replied. “You wouldn’t be here.”

  4. I am so angry about the Rolling Stone cover. They are just scum. They make him look like a sweet, lovable, but miss-guided kid. He is a stupid, loser that was too dumb to even understand why he was doing what he did. Total asshat; and Rolling Stone is a bunch of morons that should know better.

If Rolling Stone wanted to do any kind of story about the Boston bombings they should have put a picture of Martin Richards, the eight year old, that was killed by this cuddly murders.

  5. "US Air Force (USAF) veteran Julie Frein said she is willing to give up her burial plot at Arlington National Cemetery to Tamerlan Tsarnaev - the deceased Boston bombing suspect. .....

"I feel sympathy for [his family] in that as long as this issue is open, they can't have closure,"

AARGHH! What is wrong with this woman. I could give a rat's ass about his family and closure for them. That family will never feel enough pain to match what "speed bump" and "Joker" did to other families at the Boston Marathon. I think they should tie his corpse to buoy in Boston harbor and let the gulls finish him off.

  6. Despite the horrible crap going down...congrats on the race. Hope you got to finish at least. It's terrible that this senseless act ruined what was supposed to be such a good day for so many people.

Thanks. I didn't get to finish, but, that's ok. The police blocked the streets and wouldn't let anyone near the scene within seconds. The police were urging everyone to go back. My thoughts were to clear the area, get word to my family and find my friends. It was a pretty tense hour or two. I am sad for the people and families that were directly effected by this.

The race itself is damaged also. The finish line was great place of joy and celebration for families, friends, and runners. I fear that will be lost with new security requirements.

I hope the person or persons that did this rot in hell.

  7. I was there running the race when this happened. I was about 100 yds from the second blast just turning on Boylston St (the finish line). I had three friends that were running ahead of me less than 20' from the blast. They are all fine.

I heard the two blasts. I thought two large transformers had exploded. Initially the police on the course had no idea what was happening, but, I could hear there radios chattering like mad. There was lots of confusion but not much panic. People close to the scene jumped in to help. The rest of us just did the best we could to clear the area.

  8. "He led an 11-person team developing policy for 17 subordinate units and executing strategic communication plans through television, radio and print journalism for ACC leaders."

    A real warfighter!

And a bit of a chub to boot!

Can he pass a PT test or the waist measurement? That framed ABU shirt looks like a stage tent for Tops in Blue.

  9. To Neil. He never let his ego overwhelm his accomplishments. He stayed soft spoken and thanked everyone that helped him get to the moon.

    From Wired: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/08/badass-spaceflight-history/

The late great Neil Armstrong, whose daring knew no bounds, makes it on our list not once, not twice, but with three counts of spaceflight badassness (and that’s not even counting his awesome role as first man on the moon).
