Thanks for answering the questions! My husband spent a couple of years as a reservist. He's not as "stuffy" as some might think, plus he's been in for 10yrs. I am sadden by the lack of OSC, even though I understand why you all dont have one.. I've gotten pretty active with the OCS here, and was hoping to do the same at the "next base" we went to. Oh Well. I'll keep myself busy somehow.

I figured my questions would be best served here... 1) Does Guard Bases have clubs like the OSC? 2) A guy in my husband's class said that we would get extra allowences since Pease (in this case) doesn't have a BX or Comm. Any truth to this? 3) How is the community around ANG bases? Pretty open and friendly? 4) How do deployments work? Will he deploy when his Squadron does? or will his orders for dpeloyment come from the AD side? (I've heard mixed stories on this..) Thanks in advance!!

I have to completely agree with Mike here. When you hear about the 12 hr shifts plus the extra hours to study, that's not a lie.

It's funny that you say that. This past summer, I was at the Vance Pool a lot. The guys that would dodge retreat were MILITARY guys (I'm not sexist, but it was only guys that were dodging retreat. I have seen women in uniform do the same thing though.) All the dependents stood quietly, with his or her hand over her heart, till the end.

Does helping spouses count as mentoring? :-) Cheap is very "mentorish." He is constantly telling guys "Go get your Masters.." or helping out the guys/gals that are new to the AF in general. It is interesting to watch him knock some stars out of people's eyes.. "But the AF said that a UAV tour will only be 3yrs.. so it's only going to be three yrs.." "Dude.. you got stars in your eyes.. guys are being stop lossed right now.. they can't PCS out of the UAV.. it might change, but I wouldn't hold my breath" (That is a true conversation that happened at our dinner table)

I don't think there is any. Concordia doesn't cover othro after you hit 23yrs old either. Try looking to see if you can buy cheapier supp. insurence through Blue Cross, or a Dental Insurence provider. Also, some dentist officed have payment plans..

Tricare starts when you enroll them in DEERS.. You'll do this the first week of OTS, and I think it's active the following month. BY the time you move to your UPT base, your whole family will be on Tri-Care. When you enroll your family, they will enrolled in Tri-Care Standard. Which, works like a regular insurence--You pay co-pays and such. I strongly suggest that you go to airforceots.com and have your wife check out officerfamilies.com. Even though those two sites are run by Nazis, they do offer great information, and it's all about OTS, with people to walk you and your wife through OTS.

Being in the Medical field, she'll have the advantage of being able to go anywhere, she just needs to make sure that she is Licensed in whatever state you guys end up at.

WHAT?! That's odd, this is one of CA's rainy seasons.. spring is another rainy season! For hospitals for your wife: Kaiser David Grant UC Davis Medical Center Sutter Solano UC San Fran Medical Center (It's in San Fran.. but if she was a traveling nurse, and worked there for 7 days, once a month, she would make bank..) and a gazillion private practices too. This is a futher drive, but Benicia is awesome. Great Schools, center to the Bay Area.. they have an amazing Farmers Markets on Thursdays down town. A whole bunch of really cute shops.. Benicia is just awesome... Ok OK... I'm very biased, I lived there and went to High School there.. I love Benicia.. and I would do all that I could do to live there again.

There was a guy in my husband's class that dumped his girl a month or so after starting UPT--He just moved on. Granted, she didn't live here. It honestly sounds like maybe the distence between you guys might be what the Dr. prescribes.. just to see if she can deal. If she can't deal being away from you while you are in the states.. how is she going to react if you are deployed? Humor me, I was never good at the whole dating-thing: What if you and her were to have a sit down before you leave, and do the "friends" thing. here is a version of the conversation going on in my head, to give you an idea of what I am talking about: I hope that made sense.. I told him that I was taking him to a gun show, and I gave him all of M2's advice, and he agreed with me. I think we are going to go to the Gun show in OKC and go from there... He wanted the 92F because that's the gun he has shot, and has made "marksmen" and is the gun that he has to retest on and such. Thanks again guys and Gal, for all your advice!
