  1. If only there were some way of identifying toxic people before they are given command...
  2. At my current employer we fly in and out of Kona in a 747 using CTAF VFR procedures and picking up IFR clearance after takeoff. I did that in a cessna or USAF C-130 doing VFR flying. Never thought I'd be reporting at VFR pattern entry in a 74 though. "Any traffic please advise"
  3. On the flip side I got to learn Part 121, ORD, JFK, LAX, MIA all during COVID, when there were only 5 planes moving. Hell I cleared Runway 18 at EHAM and got to taxi to park with the tower (about a 5 mile taxi) as we were the only one moving on the entire airport. But you gotta love follow the greens man. Everyone needs to get on board with that system.
  4. Cashing out what specifically? Are you trying to see how you can ride out WWIII investment wise? If so, it's a complete crapshoot. It all depends on how and if the US decides to get involved. All the markets will take a hit, but it's possible that riding it out IN the market will be just as profitable as riding it out OUTSIDE (meaning cash) the market. War is big business these days and a LOT of companies will profit. My tealeaves prediction: if Biden is president all bets are off, as nuclear war is definitely on the table due to his complete ineptitude. If Trump is president, I'll bet the US profits bigtime off this war.
  5. I fly the black sea corner routinely as civil traffic. Couple months ago we made the turn and completely unmasked our GPS antennas to face north and immediately got an ANP of 20+. It's a bit of a hazard.
  6. Got that same experience back in OIF. Also had one of our crews watch one fly directly into a mountainside near Bagram. Apparently ATC told them there was co-altitude terrain and they responded "we see everything" shortly before merging with said terrain. That's why US troops were never allowed to fly on them.

    Music

The Japanese love child of a biker rally tryst between Metallica and Styx. Those dudes are rad.
  8. This is why you don't drop it from C-17's using hi-v chutes. The mission planner should get choked out for that. They're too worried about coming back with a bullet hole in their precious budda. Hell, the crew probably gets decorated for this drop. It's like we didn't spend a decade dropping shit in afghanistan and learning all those lessons (A: Don't let C-17's drop it, and B: use low-v chutes if you don't want to kill unaware people and break the shit you're dropping).
  9. Let me get this straight, that 'fact check' says he was falsely accused. But the part that's false isn't the fact that these people were flown in, the part that's false is that it was illegal? Did a bot write that?
  10. Have you ever considered that just because we're not involved (officially) yet, that WWIII can still have started? It's on full bore in Eastern Europe. It's on with Diplo, Info, and Econ with China N. Korea and Iran (almost Mil with Iran as well). Two questions: When do you think WWII started? What is your tripwire to believe WWIII has started? Please bear in mind that the USA is not the only belligerent. Fully agree that we're headed right for disaster, especially if Biden is re-elected...but it's looking just as bad if Trump is elected too...
  11. I live in Gaetz district and voted against him. Fully agree with you.
  12. Apparently you haven't noticed, but WW3 is already on. Now it's all about the roll we (USA) is going to play in it. My guess is we reprise our WWII showing and stiff arm it until even the far left and far right isolationist in our country can't ignore it any more. Then we hit heavy. In WWII terms, it's 1938-39. How we should play in it is, and should be, hotly debated. But ignoring that international hostilities (remember your DIME levers of power?) have already commenced is flat-out ignorant. This thing is happening whether you want it to or not. At least acknowledge that fact. The sooner you move on to the solution phase, the less it will cognitively hurt. I don't want it either. No one should. But thanks to the likes of Putin, Xi, Kim, Khamenei, Biden, and others it's happening. Gotta take the world as it is, not as we want it to be.
  13. ...yeah, and there was no border crisis over the past 3 years...
  14. Based on the number of cloth masks covering chins and mouths I see while commuting through ATL, my personal assessment is that they haven't yet.
  15. Head game was weak? That seems to be the trend...
  16. What are the odds that our feckless leaders have now guaranteed the burning of what sounds like a possibly quality inside source, just so said leaders could make some political moves. The source of a leak that shared this intel from inside Russia can't be too hard to pin down (assuming it's non-technical). I see no way the American public could benefit from knowing about this threat other than to somehow impact the upcoming election. These clowns are outright irresponsible.
  17. Point of reference from a data perspective: My first year of retirement last year (half actually, as I retired from the reserves halfway through) working year 2-3 at an airline, after taxes, I made literally double my O-5 active duty pay (including BAH) while working less then half the number of days, doing a simpler job with Union support, and I attended all of ZERO DEI training events. To say nothing of retirement/401k/TSP/DC/matching stuff, which is all invisible until we actually draw it, so it doesn't feel like it counts yet (but OH YEAH, it counts) I could even do AOC work (arguably the easiest job for a flyer in the USAF) and be home every night for 3 years and then come back to the airline and collect a full AD retirement check...still not worth it. Why on earth would I go back?
  18. Come on dude. You can do better. Two things can be true at the same time. I want Ukraine to win, and I want our border secure. Different pots of money. Hell, our southern border simply requires the current executive to admit he was wrong and reverse his own actions. Likewise, Ukraine doesn't require us to kneecap our own capabilities. We can have both. Not everyone opposed to a LOT of the current admin's decisions are just binary about that decision. Maybe narrow down the brush a bit.
  19. What ever happened to the US's stance of "If you start a fight with me, I'll finish it" ??? Seriously. Now it's "please don't start a fight...please please please please...ok fine I have enough dead Americans now and my populace is rather pissed...I'll strike something NEAR you, please don't hurt me" This weak dick foreign policy needs to go.
  20. Went through your struggle and came out the other end with a successful heritage room/conference room/squadron gathering area that just happened to have a 20 foot bar in it. The AFIs that I referenced nearly a couple decades ago are probably well past gone. My recommendation is to get your Sq/CC to direct you to draw up plans for a squadron renovation 'in the event' of fallout money. We did it for just over $150k in Japan in 2007...so account for inflation or something. Long story short is get your plans together down to the tee and have your Sq/CC "Direct" you to have it ready. The key here is that he needs to get the go-ahead from CE, preferably via a one-on-one conversation with the CE/CC. If you do it right, the wing doesn't find out 'til you invite the Leadership to help christen your new heritage room...which seals the deal on their blessing of it. Your squadron CC should have got a slush fund that should cover drafting of renovation plans. When fall-out money comes, he's just renovating his own building and it should be too late for someone to say no. Whether you contract out the work to real contractors or to squadron members with renovation skill entirely depends skills available to you. I recommend contracting out to construction contractors. Pro Tip: It's not a kegerator, it's a cabinet refrigerator.

  22. But don't worry, the DEI departments are safe.
