  1. This thread is kind of old but the information helped me. I used Red Yeast Rice (along with extra cardio work and cutting back to about 15% of the recommended fat intake per day) and lowered my cholesterol from 238 to 177 in only 3 weeks. That's nearly 3 points per day. Pretty amazing stuff, but I'm sure the running and diet change helped out equally. Now it's time to say screw the healthy diet and eat a deep fat fried bacon wrapped stick of butter for supper. ok, so maybe not.
  2. Actually, many Departments of Public Safety and whatnot for universities are the same level as state patrolmen.
  3. Remember that parking tickets do not go to the person driving the car. They go to the car itself. Therefore, if you get a ticket from the city police and your dad has his name on the title, you didn't get the ticket. If worse comes to worse, he got the ticket. As long as the ticket gets paid on a timely basis, the police will not ever bring it up. Exceptions to this happen where you actually get pulled over. Even a broken seatbelt in a car that is not in your name can go on your record. My advice is this: If the car isn't in your name, pay the parking tickets and forget about them. Report the speeding tickets where the cop actually wrote down your name on the ticket. [ 25. March 2005, 19:21: Message edited by: sky_king ]
  4. I agree. With both charges being dismissed, it shouldn't be that big of a deal getting into ROTC. Just make sure that you don't screw up while in ROTC. I'm pretty sure that would make it a pretty easy decision that you are out of the corps. I myself have a selling alcohol to a person underage charge that got dismissed on my record. The NCO's at the detachment said it would not be a problem at all. To sum up, just don't hide it. Even if it doesn't come up on your record, the DoD will find it somewhere. Then it will be much more difficult to explain.
  5. So there is no time limit for the strength portion of the test then? You just go until failure and then rest one minute? It really would be dumb to have a timed event where you must to 6 second reps of exercises.
  6. I only saw one episode before it was cancelled. I'll probably buy it!
  7. Would you rather: 1) Drive a bakery truck 2) Drive a fuel truck Would you rather: 1) Think up Smokey the Bear slogans 2) Parachute in to fight a forest fire Maybe those questions are better on the newer machines, but did anybody else find that last section retarded?
  8. I'll play the devil's advocate... AAS is not for me. If you are high speed and self motivated, you won't need the program to excell in the corps. To me, AAS is basically a positive tie breaker that would be looked at between two identical cadets. Of the 15 or so cadets that finished the Tiger program (I dropped out due to class loads), probably 8 or so are no longer in the corps. Half of the remaining AAS members are average cadets. So if you don't join AAS, don't worry about it. It may help you out or it may just take time from your studies. Your call
  9. The aerospace engineer says screw you guys, straps on his jet pack and flys away.
  10. You don't 'need' an engineering degree to be an astronaut nor do you 'need' to be a test pilot to be an astronaut. However, if you look at the astronaut bios online, you'll find that to be competative, you better have those two lines on your resume.
  11. Why does it SAY it would be good... I'm assuming that's what he was saying. I'm not sure what NASA's criteria for astronaut are but I think it's only recommended that you have an engineering, math, etc... degree. However, it is VERY STRONGLY recommended.
  12. Same here... well, I don't have the degree yet but I'm one semester away.
  13. eh, kinda figured is was a 'it depends' answer. Usually I'd look it up for myself but I was feeling lazy at the time I posted that.
  14. There's one thing that I do know and that is instructing is definitely NOT for everyone. Thanks for the different view of being a regular IP too. As for becoming an IP what do you do? I'm assuming that you go about your first assignment as whatever you pick (or get as the case may be) and then put down IP as your choice for the next go at it. I'd love to be an IP, especially a T-38 or T-1 IP. It get a joy out of seeing someone 'get it'. Oh and Baseops, I'm sure you've been told this before but this message board is awesome. You get a check plus from sky_king :D
  15. where do I find how much alloted weight I get?
  16. oh, also, as a result of getting married, I already go the chick so the Air Medal is an optional deal :D
  17. Well, I'm planning on going to a civilian instructor ticket here sometime soon and figured a military instructor ticket would be a pretty cool deal too. Also, I will be married and it would be nice to be able to stay for a while. Maybe I'll shoot for the FAIP slot... Thanks for the responses
  18. Is being an instructor not as wonderful as it sounds or what?
  19. What does it take to become an AF instructor pilot? Do you go to instructor training directly after UPT or do you have to complete some time in a different airplane first? Also, what does it take to be a test pilot? I've already got the Aerospace Engineering degree.
  20. To add to that. My girl ain't got no nose, Just a piece of rubber hose. My girl ain't got no hair, Just patches here and there. My girl ain't got no skin, Just a bag to keep her in. My girl ain't got no heart, Just play-doh from Walmart. My girl means a lot to me, A million dollar policy. I wouldn't do anything, To keep her alive
  21. For deployments of pilots, how long are you gone and does your family generally come with or stay behind? Does it differ from airframe to airframe?
