  1. Another shout out to Marty. I contacted Marty a few months ago about arranging a mortgage and while he could not do it for me in the state I live in he told me if I gave him a few hours he could recommend someone. Marty recommended a fantastic mortgage broker (Jodie at Carolina Equity in Apex, NC). Thank you for taking the time to recommend another broker, we just closed and it was a very smooth process working with Jodie and her team.
  2. I extended my DEROS twice in one assignment. My commander worked it out with my parent MAJCOM A1 and functional assignment team at AFPC.
  3. Having started this thread 11 years ago, I'll say, Holy Thread Revival....
  4. In my C-130 squadron the TRB for AC was more of a "who is next" than it was a board. But that was in the time when it was 4 on 4 off in OIF and OEF so it may have changed now. If a pilot who was weak made it through AC school they usually got sent to white jets before they could deploy as an AC or were paired with the strongest copilot we had, on occasion another aircraft commander. My MC-130 squadron the TRB could be a bloodbath. I have seen several guys get delayed for AC or IP depending on what experience they had and how they good they were, or weren't.
  5. Not really if you understand the situation
  6. In the UK I got a Barclays account because most utilities require direct debit and you must have a pound account. Foreign financial interests must be reported on your security clearance investigation but a five minute explanation during my interview was all it took and the investigator moved on as if it was no big deal.
  7. 2004 year group was a 75% DP allocation. I actually thought 75% had been the standard the last few years but hopefully somebody that pays attention to that stuff and has been around longer can confirm or correct that for me.
  8. Like he said, call us, it's easy to set up, easier than flying low level in Germany anyways, and the US. Edited to say PM me as well
  9. Mildenhall is using the ROBD at Lakenheath, just did it a few weeks ago. Had three -130 guys and a KC-135 guy in my class.
  10. Herk Driver, My point was that if his leadership approves him being on leave the "variations authorized" on his orders allow him to go back and retroactively put leave into his itinerary. I should have made that clearer in my first post. Its probably also good to point out that my unit is pretty liberal about what we approve over the phone and email, without orders or amendments to orders until well after the fact.
  11. Are variations authorized on your orders? If so, go on leave and deal with it when you file the voucher. LeaveWeb is not required if you log the leave in DTS. I took a week of leave after SOS and only got it cleared through my commander. I had to work an amendment to my orders when I got back to file my voucher, but everybody at my base was very helpful getting the amendment done even though it was after the fact.
  12. Second on what ThreeHoler just said about stats not meaning much because in the end he is right. That being said I was told 18% of the '04 board were school selects and the Air Force target for the '04 guys is 33% attend school in-residence. Use the stats for what you want but I am '04 guy who is not a select, I am planning on working hard and hopefully getting lucky. The good news is if you never go to school in-res and check all your boxes you may be able to make Lt Col with about half the work of the bros that go to school, staff, and command. Edit: sorry I missed the original question about AAD, no idea about that one.
  13. Gen Welsh is making the rounds in the next month or so to have "All Pilot" calls at some bases. I don't know the agenda but I know the SOG guys at Mildenhall were not invited and were told they were not expected to go. Maybe he will announce his plans there.
  14. Its funny to see things change, just a few years ago at a certain base in southwest texas the WG/CC mandated the club stayed open until the last people were done drinking, and that WG/CC went on to get his first star.
  15. My squadron is at my FTU base, but the RA had no problem paying for my contacts while in the schoolhouse. He only got me what i needed to fly, not the full set required for deployments and whatnot. I would say throw the bullshit flag if you are at your squadron. If you are attached to some other squadron then it might be different.
  16. My post was deemed inappropiate considering that there is an on-going investigation into a drop a couple of weeks ago that didnt land on DZ. I talked to the mod who deleted it and its cool. To the guys from the schoolhouse who read my post about the 53rd, it was a joke. To the dyess guys, That comment on the taxi incident was a joke.
  17. Heres some funny shit from a guy who with any luck will not be an MPD stud after tmw. I have never loaded secures, never. Half (2 out of 4) of my "pilot not flying" rides were done in the left seat. Do i feel like I am going to be able to work the right seat? Yeah Ill figure it out with some help at my unit. But ive gotten real good in 6 months at sitting in the left seat and maintaining altitude, airspeed, and heading, all while pretending to know exactly what was going on while the instructor made most of my decisions for me. 4fans, you shouldnt be offending anybody. Ive learned something in my 35 hours in the herk. There is a reason it takes 750 minimum to become an AC (i think that numbers right, but ive never looked it up). The last rumor at the 62 was that a conference would take place this month and they want to make the MPD program leftseat for pro and right seat for tac. Ill admit ive enjoyed my left seat flying, but im going to the desert this fall, and I wish i knew more about the right seat. Edit my spelling sucks [ 07. June 2006, 19:08: Message edited by: WHAP ]
  18. Yeah, Im waiting to hear how many of my friends didnt get retained. Its really unfortunate in so many ways, but i got into ROTC in 01 and they were handing out scholarships left and right to almost anybody who had a pulse and didnt weigh 250, by the time i graduated they were only actively recruiting engineers, nurses, and weather guys.
  19. Most of the guys on this board havent seen a RIF (myself included), but is this what it was like after Gulf 1 and other historic AF RIFs? Air Force notifies force shaping lieutenants 5/10/2006 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- Today, 2,084 lieutenants in the 2002 and 2003 accession year groups will learn if they were selected for retention by the Force Shaping Board. Each officer is being notified personally of their status by their senior rater. Officers deployed will be notified by either the deployed commander or their home station senior rater. The Force Shaping Board, led by a two-star board president, was broken down into panels of five consisting of one brigadier general and four colonels on each panel. Panel members were selected from the career fields of the officers affected. "The members of this board were charged by the secretary of the Air Force to perform the complex task of right-sizing our junior officer force by specialty,” said Maj. Gen. Glenn Spears, director of force management policy, deputy chief of staff for manpower and personnel, Headquarters U.S. Air Force. “The board members were acutely aware of the magnitude of their role in serving on the first board thus institutionalizing the FSB process and ensuring the officer corps is balanced and sustainable," General Spears said. Officers were evaluated for retention based on information in their central selection record. The record contained evaluation reports, decorations and the Retention Recommendation Form. Officers not selected for retention will be separated no later than Sept. 29 but are still eligible to apply for the Palace Chase or the Blue to Green programs. "The Air Force values the selfless service and sacrifice of these officers who volunteered to serve,” General Spears said. “We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. It is our hope they will choose to continue their service to our great nation.” Palace Chase applicants should first contact a local Guard or Reserve recruiter to secure a position and then their local military personnel flight for an application and assistance with filling out the forms. Officers interested in transferring to the Guard or Reserve may avoid a break in service provided they apply by Aug. 1. Likewise, eligible officers interested in continuing their service in the Army must apply to the Blue to Green program by June 15 to ensure there is no impact on their service dates. Officers should contact their local military personnel flight and the U.S. Army Human Resources Command to begin the process. Army human resources can be reached at www.hrc.army.mil/site/active/opdistacc/IST/CIST.HTM or via the Defense Switched Network at 221-3764 or commercial (703) 325-4471. Applicants must provide the Army a statement of qualification, a physical dated within one year, the officer's evaluation reports and copies of their college transcripts. Those officers looking for opportunities to continue to serve as a civil service employee should visit the Office of Personnel Management Web site at www.usajobs.opm.gov for more information. Officers not selected for retention will receive an information package explaining any entitlements they may be eligible for like separation pay and their transition benefits such as transitional healthcare coverage and permissive temporary duty. Officers should contact the appropriate base agency for more information regarding the benefits detailed in the package. For the latest information on force shaping, visit www.afpc.randolph.af.mil/retsep/forceshaping/shape.htm. [ 10. May 2006, 12:01: Message edited by: WHAP ]
  20. Disclaimer: Im a 2LT in the herk world. I dont claim to be an Old Head or anything like that. So, I have avoided being a SNAP for most of my short time in the AF. Mainly be knowing that my job for the most part is to STFU and do what I am told without having to bug people about how to do it, but I have noticed lately a lot of people talking around this board on topics they have no experience in and really no business commenting on. The lack of search function use has always been a common problem, but whatever, dealing with that is like changing the tides. So, I would like the Old Heads around here to share what they think people who havent put their time in (myself included) can do to avoid being a SNAP. Other non-SNAPs share your own lessons learned in your time in the AF. For you wannabees and ROTC types, now would be a good time to listen and only speak if you have some follow up question. For my own lessons learned, very simply, STFU. Formation debriefs where ACs are discussing things dont involve the brand new CP opening his mouth unless he/she is being asked a direct question. Dont bug ACs, IPs, DOs, CCs, or EPs with simple questions that another CP, or FP for us MPD bastards, can answer. Dont ever start a task by asking someone else how to do it, search the local computer drives, look up the regs yourself, and after a few hours or days of comtemplation (depending on urgency of task) with no success, then think about asking someone. Take criticism with professionalism. The guy giving it is only trying to make you better and you arent gonna get, nor should you want, a hug afterwards. It should be a given that you will do your job well without expecting praise, so the AC/IP whoever should not be required to give you praise. Now, Old Heads, please enlighten us, cuz we need it.
  21. Mainly flying squadrons, only becuase thats where you find 20 LTs who need to band together. I dont know of any squadrons besides flying ones that have a ton of LTs like we do.
  22. Im not sure if thats legal phlash. We were told at Laughlin that we had to get texas plates, DL, and register to vote before we could legally claim residency. Now, Finance doesnt care, its just a piece of paper to them. And maybe we were told wrong, I dont know.
  23. wow, thats reaching a long ways bishop. They should not ask your friends about their behavior. They should ask them about you. If someone were to say you had smoked some ganja, it probably wouldnt be a show stopper, but it could create a little asspain. I really dont think you have anything to worry about. It turns into a he said she said argument, and the TS people cant win that one unless a couple of people sign affidavits saying you did.
  24. Running in Del Rio is manageable with a kid in the winter and late fall/early spring, but summers its always balls hot out there. 95+ about 5 months of the year.
  25. 1LTs at LRF are doing 150k-175k. I know one guy at McCord that went up to 260K, but the BAH up there is good. Im at 2LT and I went in for 130K, dont have any issues, but i dont have any other debt either. So keep in mind car payments ect.
