  1. It's still "Wild West-ish" out here but this is actually a great deployment if you like to fly. A lot. I had very low expectations before coming here but the Afghans in the squadron are good dudes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. SAFO13005.pdf Check the attached SAFO (Safety Alert for Operators) from the FAA. It states that "the FAA is concerned about the procedures for carrying and securing heavy vehicle special cargo loads." It even goes on to list some "best practices for heavy vehicle special cargo operations and restraint" which reads like loadmaster 101. Whatever the cause of this HORRIBLE accident, the feds seem to think something warrants getting some info out on this pretty quick.
  3. This goes against some of the assumptions people have been having: National Air Cargo issues statement regarding Boeing 747 crash in Afghanistan ORLANDO, Fla. - National Air Cargo will not speculate as to the cause of the accident involving National Flight NCR102. With our full cooperation, an investigation by appropriate authorities is under way, and we encourage everyone to join us in respecting that process and allowing it to take its appropriate course. Here are some facts regarding the aircraft and its movements prior to the accident: National Flight NCR102 was en route to Dubai from Camp Bastian and had stopped to refuel at Bagram Air Base. The cargo contained within the aircraft was properly loaded and secured, and had passed all necessary inspections prior to departing Camp Bastian. The aircraft landed safely and uneventfully in Bagram. No additional cargo or personnel was added during the stop in Bagram, and the aircraft's cargo was again inspected prior to departure.

  5. Amazing pictures and info, thanks for posting it. I just read this article in AF Magazine that reminded me of this thread since a lot of these pictures seem to be taken about the time Anaconda kicked off. Along with a lot of info that has been retold over and over there is some stuff that I hadn't heard of such as T Mike calling the Pakistanis to ask for a temp Hog base at Jacobabad when the jets were already in the air, C17s getting gas from an orbiting tanker to fill the bladders at Bagram, and that the Strike Eagle pass on Takur Gar was the firrst time they had ever strafed. I knew the plan for that op was messed up, I think that is pretty much accepted historic fact, but I didn't know that the CAS plan was so much of an afterthought. Do any of you who were there at that time care to speak on this article?
  6. Same question. Can't find the baseops forum on the app.
  7. Average stats of successful UPT applicants: AFOQT Pilot 94.2, AFOQT Nav 75.4, AFOQT Academic Aptitude 71.5, AFOQT Verbal 65.0, AFOQT Quantitative 71.0, Flying Hours 604.7 (Median 187.0), PCSM 93.6
  8. The list is out. 43 selected. You should be getting a call either today or tomorrow. Please don't ask me for info, just rest easy that it won't be much longer and wait for your call. Good Luck.
  9. I do have the document, but I won't post it and I strongly suggest no one else does either. Just take a deep breath and give a call to your unit POC. They'll have it and fill you in on your dates.
  10. The training dates are all projected for you guys unless you are still waiting a physical certification or a waiver. Your POC should have them as of Wednesday afternoon, so give them a call.
  11. Congrats to you guys that made it, it was certainly a competitive board. Below is some information on the average scores/stats for successful UPT applicants: THE FOLLOWING ARE THE AVERAGE SCORES FOR SUCCESSFUL SUPT APPLICANTS: AFOQT PILOT: 92.7 AFOQT NAVIGATOR: 75.8 AFOQT QUANTITATIVE: 71.0 AFOQT ACADEMIC APTITUDE: 69.0 AFOQT VERBAL: 60.0 PCSM: 92.7 FLYING HOURS: 764.4 (MEDIAN 175.0)
  12. I guess I would agree that anyone that speaks categorically about anything that they don't have direct experience with probably shouldn't do that. That said, I'd be careful about assuming that the AMP discussion is as simple as the old dudes that don't want the J model, for example. I was originally excited about the AMP as it was described. How it has turned out, and some of this has to do with changes forced by triggers set up under the Nunn–McCurdy amendment, make it a horrible deal for the taxpayers and aircrews, in my opinion. While I would be sorry to see Navs and Engs go, I would be totally in favor of getting J models versus AMPs (so you can see I'm not "ignorant and anti-technology".) I have a fair amount of experience with many types of glass cockpit setups, and I stand by what I said that the AMP is a bad bad deal. The only thing that jumps out as a huge jump in capability is the FMS vs. SCNS. As far as the SA increase goes, it just isn't there in my opinion. In addition, you lose some of the ergonomic improvements that came with the H3, as in the AMP bird some warning lights go back to being scattered around the cockpit. New Cessna 172s with the Garmin G1000 cockpit with synthetic vision provide an amazing amount of easy-to-process information. The AMP setup is already obsolete, and it continues to shed capability to save $. I am against the AMP partly BECAUSE I want new and better technology, not because I resist it. Lovek, have YOU spent much time in an AMP airplane, pushing buttons and talking to the engineers? If you have I'm surprised you are in favor of it.
  13. If they follow through on this, and I hope they do, Good Riddance. I was hoping this Goat **** would get cnxed before it started wreaking havoc in the community. I finally got to see the test bird from Charlie West a couple weeks ago and got a thorough tour from one of the engineers. Even they said the program had turned into a complete boondoggle, especially since they cut the moving map as a cost-cutting measure. No nav, AND no moving map?!? That's an improvement how???? I'm 28 years old and I hope I retire in an H3.
  14. I hope the link works: From AirShowBuzz.com's video library
  15. Crazy squids. I've learned that in the Navy you don't get double-turned you get "double-pumped," as in "Lt. Diggler double-pumped me like crazy yesterday!" I have to go up to the the third deck to get a Snickers from the geedunk and a sip from the scuttlebutt after a stop on the quarterdeck.
