  1. Until there is a titanic shift we are stuck with this system.
  2. The words below were stolen from a friend, yesterday started the execution phase of Operation Eagle Claw. If you have never read about what they did it is well worth researching how these braves folks had the "guts to try." "Somewhere around today, in 1980, three MC-130E from the 1st SOS departed Diego Garcia BIOT bound for Masirah Island, Oman. After a brief, 7 hour, flight we would arrive to find two big wooden boxes with stuff dropped off by a C-141 a day or so earlier. In those boxes were tents, cots, and air mattresses seemingly left over from European theater of operations in WW2. Have you ever tried to drive a wooden tent stake into the hard surface of a desert island? The ever resourceful E's converted one of the boxes into an outhouse, so we did at least have that going for us. And so the adventure began."
  3. The absolute root cause of so many of the current problems. "Picking" an officer as a captain long before their leadership is truly proven and pushing them uphill regardless of their flaws creates caustic entitled assholes. When we end up with folks who destroy the morale of units, commit sins that are white washed away (right after they hammer a subordinate for the same sin), and show questionable leadership while flying only to have the superiors say "we can't afford for him/her to fail, we have invested too much and we need another GO." This is why the institution is failing and this is why the concerns of the masses do not resonate with most of the current leadership.
  4. It would seem Foxnews knows more about the GBU-43/B than you do.
  5. Chang is an Olympic level troll, no one could seriously believe any of the tripe he posts on this forum, it is simply meant to throw fecal matter at the oscillating disk. I almost feel sorry for someone who has so little going on in their life that they have to invest this much energy just to cause a reaction. Sadly his comments represent the worst of everything that is wrong with our Air Force right now, the sickening result of a fighting organization converted to a corporation then repeatedly dunked in political correctness. The shoes thrived in a corporate environment where everyone is a "warrior." While I believe every Airman is important and makes a valuable contribution, if you don't take lives or cross the fence with your life at risk, it doesn't mean you are a lesser person, but you most certainly are not a fucking warrior. I hate to be the old guy who points out everything that is wrong while yelling get off my lawn and granted I do have a unique view now that I am out and safely wrapped in my DD-214 Blanket, but for fucks sake something has to change and make people like Chane a distant memory.
  6. There are rules that govern STOP LOSS and I would advise folks to start researching now. I have not read the legislation, but I believe it has to be for a limited duration...of course that would be the Air Force following the rules. I think there are also special compensation rules for bonuses and such.
  7. The final epic collapse of integrity brought to you by the senior leadership of the United States Air Force. Out of one side of their pie holes they proclaim to "care" and want to address the issues that are causing people to leave. Out of the other side they go behind your back to Congress to change the 1500 hour rule and threaten the Airlines with Stop Loss. Goldfein, Rand, Everhart and the others have abdicated any shred of integrity that remained...I am truly disgusted to say I know them and trusted them. They can't Stop Loss you forever (the will certainly try), get out NOW! Don't waste a day if you have the option, this is not going to get better anytime soon.
  8. Terrible news. I've known Rocky for many years, he was quite the character and remained connected to aviation through a group of remote control aviators in NW Florida. The group of "Old Guys" were my heros, most were former military with incredible stories of service to their country. I wish you all could have met them...Dr Jack who lied about his age to enlist and serve in Korea, he used his GI Bill to complete Dental School and raised six kids almost entirely on his own, his wife died shortly after the sixth child was born. He was so proud that he got all six through college. There was another character named Ugo Ferrari who served 28 years on active duty and another 24 as a government civilian developing weapons. And there was Rocky who dealt with the injures form being shot down for the rest of his life but never asked for special treatment. He was gruff but would do anything for anyone. Rest easy gentlemen.
  9. Yup, they are still using them.
  10. Initial results say they destroyed 20 Syrian aircraft on the ground and the base is largely destroyed.
  11. Trump gives no fucks about Obama's fake red line.
  12. Bernstein has been neutered by a network that refuses to acknowledge there is even the possibility of a problem. I have only heard suggestions that a law was broken, but it is clear Rice went way beyond the norm in unmasking numerous folks on the Trump team, then sharing that with other senior officials. Essentially turning the government intelligence apparatus into a political tool to spy on the Trump folks. We still don't know a great many things and it will be interesting to see what happens if Rice is called to testify.
  13. I try to take in a variety of news an opinions but has become so bifurcated into ideological sides. The news is supposed to be the 4th estate, the check and balance, the challenge to the government...but it has become a cheerleader to one side or the other. My humble opinion but for all to many years we had only one liberal option with the mainstream media. FoxNews with all their warts and other issues changed the dynamic by offering a conservative slant..then it was Fights on! For many years I kept CNN in my cross check but they have moved farther and farther off the deep end with folks like Don Lemmon. Look no further than the latest issues with Susan Rice, two weeks ago she denied knowing anything about anything related to the leaked intel and the unmasking of Americans. She changed her tune yesterday now that multiple sources reported they have her logs. We do NOT know what happened, but Don Lemon has come out and said he will not report on the Susan Rice situation, while he continues to theorize on Trump "violations". Some of this is caused by the digital news cycle, always trying to be first and over-hype so you can grab headlines. I am far from technology averse, but in the day of the newspaper there was time to dig into a story and at least attempt to get the facts. I am SHOCKED we don't have a Woodward and Bernstein looking into the surveillance claims, if any of this is remotely true, we could have a story to revile Watergate.
  14. As of late last night all Navy T-45's are grounded.
  15. The drive on 399 along the beach from Navarre to Pensacola is amazing. There are several pulloffs with parking that will give you almost complete solitude on an incredible beach, also great for surf fishing if you are into that.
  16. Initial report indicated the pilot survived.
  17. I used to leave the HQ building and it would take 6-7 iterations of the light just to turn left onto Cody from Independence, then another 5-6 minutes to get off base. Now you can get onto independence in 1/3 the time. The current issue is the merge mainly because of the light at Whispering Pines. After that light I can usually do 65-70MPH until just before Walmart where again the traffic lights are not synced. Last week was different because it was Springbreak, but I left the 19th SOS at 1630 and pulled into my driveway at 1654. As you pointed out, the overpass almost completely cured the morning commute.
  18. Absolute lie. Prior to the overpass it could take 30 minutes just to get off the base, now traffic flows off base, the issue is the merge onto highway 98 and the fact that the lights are not synchronized on highway 98. That being said the state is wrapping up a multi-million dollar study and effort to synchronize the lights on highway 98 which will have a big impact. Regardless, from Hurlburt to the far west side of Holley by the Sea is 30 minutes, 40 on a bad day. Other things to consider: 1. Schools - FWB school are ungood. Some of the elementary schools are good but overall FWB schools get a 6 out of 10 rating. Navarre and Niceville are ranked much higher, both have incredible sports programs which act as a pipeline to some great schools (UNC, Auburn, Miami, Harvard to name a few recent scholarships). Niceville has a better AP program and there is a really good charter school in Okalossa County. I won't post all the details but we have been exceptionally happy with the Navarre schools. 2. Housing - As discussed the FWB homes are much older (1970's), so for the price you won't get the modern conveniences many folks want (big closets, granite counters, three car garages), unless it is a remodel. There is a LOT of new construction in Navarre so you are far more likely to find or built something to suit your tastes. 3. Crime - All three areas have seen a spike in petty crime and drug usage, FWB is having some gang issues. 4. Water Sport - Standby pointed out that he likes to go deep sea fishing, that is a tougher prospect in Navarre because you have to go to Destin (nightmare traffic in the summer with all the tourists). There used to be a pass through the barrier islands to the Gulf of Mexico but it was filled in by a hurricane many years ago. Newly elected Congressman Matt Gaetz just sponsored legislation to reopen the pass. If it is approved it will certainly change the dynamic of Navarre and already increasing home values will go much higher...something to consider as you invest in a home.
  19. You guys have it backwards...the training value would not be for the 5th gen folks, it would be for seasoning hundreds of fighter pilots who could jump in a cheap jet that has all the switchology of a 5th gen and develop muscle memory and airmanship at the same time.
  20. http://www.nwfdailynews.com/news/20170331/muslim-group-urges-afsoc-to-sever-ties-with-counter-terrorism-instructor CAIR can suck a pig dick. If you are active duty or a GS I HIGHLY recommend the DIT course as well as most of the offerings at the Special Operations School.
