  1. Thread revival! Does anybody know if IMA Cat-B positions are able to get Tricare Reserve Select? Can't find any definitive info on it. Thanks!
  2. Hi, I'm working on designing a friday patch for the squadron. Been awhile since dealing with this in UPT. Who are folks using now days for great custom patches? I appreciate all info! Figured some UPT guys on here should have some good gouge. Thanks
  3. Cap-10, What is the min commitment expected from a T/R with an airline job? Thanks for the info!
  4. in shock. Arrived out here the day he went down. We went through ROTC at Auburn together and his wife was there with us too. I can't think of a finer officer/ friend/ husband/ aviator. There was a moving retreat/ memorial cermony tonight in Dee's honor. Please help spread the word about the fund around.
  5. My fellow Gucci boys ahead of me in the post pretty much detailed everything about the -10 that is good and bad. I will say that I found point 2. up here funny as I just got back from a Coronet run going right through Hawaii, Wake, and then up to Misawa. We have a lot of trips through the Pacific. Looking back in my logbook I have been on about 5 Channel runs within the last FY. The best one of which is the E-1 going down to Australia. It is now being run by C-17s however. I'm pretty biased on the -10, but it is a pretty amazing airplane from a pilot's perspective. From day 1 I was receiving receiver work as a new co pilot. Again, this is a biased statement but I think -10 guys are generally some of the best heavy AR receivers in the system. About every local sortie we have gets us a chance to AR as well as many force extensions on the road. We go to some amazing places..sure we aren't tactical minus our run into Bagram every now and then, but we still hit some pretty awesome locations. When I was at UPT the -10 was desired and harder to come by. Typically went to the top studs in the class that wanted it. I'm pretty sure its still that way to my understanding. The only downfall to the assignment at least for Active Duty studs, is the amount of Desert time you are going to see. Might as well get ready to be getting a great tan year around at the lovely Al Dhafra. Finally the McGoo isn't that bad of a place to be based. Sure it is no Travis, but there is a lot around to do. Close to DC, NYC, and Philly while still being able to live in suburbia. Anymore questions ask away, but I think the highlights have been covered already.
  6. Just found out today from a friend that Mark passed away. I was in his ASBC class a few years back before we both attended UPT. He was a great guy all around. Shocked to hear this news.
  7. curious if anyone here knocked out their Aeronautical Science Masters while actively flying? I figure it can't be too hard, but I am worried about how much time it will take up. I'm TDY a decent amount but figured that while in the desert I could probably knock some of it out. If anyone here has gone through the program Id appreciate any info. Gracias
  8. Thanks. All great advice! What is going to be hard is what to eat while flying. I hope the box nasties aren't too bad. The missions are long so I"m going to have to stock up on good foods to eat.
  9. so headed to the sandbox for the first time. Looking to make it my version of fatcamp..loose a little weight..work out etc. Anyone have any good tips for losing some weight over in the des. while flying? How do I eat healthy at the DFAC? Do they cook plain chicken breasts etc? I know a lot of guys end up losing a good amount of weight. Any tips/ eating plans appreciated!
  10. We had an orthodox Jewish LT going through FTU when I was there. He was highly controversial. A nice, extremely quiet guy but things that you mentioned above and in your other posts started to wear on people. I personally never had a problem with him, but his actions separated and alienated himself from others. Before we knew it everyone on base was talking about it. In a small community such as the kc-10..not only do folks here know about it, but at the other base as well. First off, he would find a way to get out of any flight with a female. All the females knew his background and were respectful. He would never talk to them directly which really wore on their patience. Also these female pilots were married and professional. Also again, we fly on the weekends..its AMC..its the USAF way of life going on. Mission needs to be done and doesnt matter what day it is. Again, he would drop flights which made it very difficult on schedulers. Say you need a flight or have to deploy and your A/C is a female. Suppose she is the only pilot able to go on this flt etc..you are going to be stuck. Seen it happen..its just how it is going to go down in the do more with less people age. I could go on, but to wrap it up..IMHO..there is no way you are going to be able to not have interaction with females at work in this day in age. How you would handle it could make it very easy or difficult. No matter how you explain things, it would be a strain for you and your office/coworkers. The USAF goes out of their way to have everyone worship freely. However, how you handle things at the workplace and with other genders is going to determine how you get along at work. If you dont see yourself acting any different than the guy I described above..well then I would look somewhere else.
  11. definitely agree about KCLT Charlotte's USO. It was great. I tried it 2 weeks ago..never have been in a USO before. They had lots of free food..nice reclining leather lazy boys and flat screen tv's everywhere. Also had wifi and internet service. I regretted buying quizno's 10 minutes before I rolled in there! The staff was great and gave me a quick tour when I signed in. Ill definitely be stopping in there again!
  12. About to take my first testing outta UPT in a few weeks. Curious if there are any good strategies to go about taking the open book, closed book, and IRC tests? Ive heard about going in there with EPUBS and just searcihng that way? Should I spread the tests out over a few days? Any tips would be appreciated!
  13. techsan...thanks Ill go over to the squadron and see about getting a copy. No luck on epubs online.
  14. Thanks for all the stuff so far guys! Just out of curiosity what is the 3-3? Are you referring to the 11-kc10v3 or section 3 outta the dash 1?
  15. About to start KC-10 training and was wondering if anyone had any good stuff for FTU? Ive seen a lot online for other aircraft but cant seem to find anything on the kc-10. Any MQF's or gouge on the plane would be awesome. Thanks for any help you can provide!
