  1. Your civilian personnel folks should have some experience dealing with this, go talk to them. As long as you followed the AFI and didnt say anything rediculous itll be fine. And even if their complaint gets upheld there isnt likely to be any problem. Especially if your boss supports you. And if the performance issue continues put them on a performance improvememt plan. If that doesnt work start the process to remove them. It is a paperwork intensive process and can be slow. But I have had to fire at least three GS employees I can remember and it can be done.
  2. Maybe they'd been passed over twice for a good reason....
  3. If the UTA has already happened and you didnt reachedule before that then yup. You were on orders so if there wasnt a 40A already approved and in the system you were probably counted as constructively present
  4. Get in a Unit. Do a good job and go for a UPT slot. You can always go AD later if you dont get a guard or reserve pilot slot. If you went AD didnt get a pilot slot then tried to go guard or reserve IMO you wouldnt be as competitive as you would being enlisted aircrew competing.
  5. Here is a neat legal tidbit. If you are questioned by OSI or Security Police regarding an accusation against you and at the end of the process you get an article 15, that gets reported to NCIC and is accessible by employers and state agencies for employment and licensing for the rest of your life. Even though you were not convicted in a court it gets treated that way. As opposed to a commander or IG investigation that ends in ART 15 which is not reported. So regardless of how trivial the offense if you have been questioned by OSI or SF the stakes are high even if you get an ART 15 for something that isn't even a crime in civilian life like fraternization.
  6. AFI 2234V1 has them in the IDT chapter. They're administrative TP's, you don't use them for individual training but OPR's awards n decs and UTA prep. Some DO and CC's keep them as a slush fund and don't really mention them to anyone. Thats what they use for pre UTA meetings a lot of the time. Don't know if it's a Guard thing, you would have to check your training reg if it's different than AFI 2254V1. They are 4 hour blocks and pay like a Ground TP. Nice thing is if there's RMP money you get them in addition to your other TP's, up to 24 per FY.
  7. Don't forget your 24 RMPs!!! Aircrew can burn those in addition to TPs if there's money in the RMP account. oPRs and other admin stuff can be done. I've done a bunch at home telecommuting.
  8. Caveat: What Unit's can do versus what they are willing to do or usually do differs, check with your Unit folks for local policies. Normally for the reserves, your UTA's start the day you are gained if you come in off the street or from active duty. So if you come in halfway through the year you have half left. Also once a UTA is passed you can't reach back for it. So if you are going on orders that cover a UTA make sure to reschedule them prior to the UTA date sometime into the future or you'll be counted constructively present and not be able to use it later. AFTP's you still can theoretically do all 48 as long as you don't exceed 16 per quarter. So of you come in the third quarter you have 32 available for the rest of the FY. Different Unit CC's have different policies regarding UTA reschedules and I have had one that wouldn't let you reschedule a UTA if you were on orders those dates. That's rare but can happen. Most want you to have max availability so they'll punt your UTA's forward. Especially with today's lack of RPA funding they're screwing themselves by not letting you do so. But its up to you to make sure it gets done cause once that original UTA date goes by, there needs to be a 40A in the system or it goes bye bye. Also some unit's have mandatory UTA's, a couple a year that you can't reschedule and are for big max training events like water survival or block training.
  9. Havent heard if Niagara gets their H3s back from the Minneapolis guys. Minnie is still on the chopping block AFAIK.
  10. I've heard the Dobbins J conversion isn't still happening. The 815th J's are going to Pope instead But we will see what ends up happening.
  11. I knew an ART who was part of the old RIF lawsuit. When the dust settled he ended up as a retired AD guy who kept his ART job. But that was because of the legal ruling in that case for that group Any day he flew as a Reservist he lost that day of retirement pay. So in limited circumstances it can be done but as a practical matter I think it'd be tough.
  12. Every assignment is what you make it. It not more complicated than that...
  13. I was ART for 10 years. Flew TAC in hercs till the last couple then WC Recco. That was great cause we have 10 ART crews so the workload was to put it mildly "light". The money was phenomenal compared to a LOT of civilian gigs and at least you felt like if you were working a lot extra it was a choice. It isn't perfect but there are a lot worse deals out there. I'm working on a new career now, less money but hopefully more fulfilling. I agree straight GS and TR is the bettter deal. There's a lot of political BS and if you are in love with "fair" I might recommend you look elsewhere but it can be a comfortable deal. Comfy to the point of coma.
