  2. So, this makes me wonder. Does everyone that gets promoted to LtCol get a command push (whatever the flavor)? Future commanders are the exception to the pack (at least in reality) so not everyone should get a command push. Yes, party line says the AF promotes based on potential but few will actually command. Any old heads that can weigh on this?

  5. Yup. my push mentions nothing of commanding. Wonder why we play these games though when there's the "command track" and other BS nonsense and operators on the other hand. Why wait until now when I was never on the command track to tell me I'm not on the command track? Again, I am good and not bitter at all. Dent to the ego but I knew where I stood as a captain, let alone at this board. I've always been an operator and have never played "the game" so this is no surprise for me.

But, it is what it is. I would be appalled if you're not promoted from what you've shared - completely sucks you have to stress about it until they announce results............I just can't see how you won't be promoted from that info tho
  7. I just got my IPZ LtCol PRF with the P checked and weak DP push line. I didn't even know what a weak push line looked like (hence my first visit to baseops in years) so thanks to those who shared that info. ThreeHoler and FourFans are spot on here, at least the way I see it. I just wonder when big blue will stop pretending with all of this - we need pilots but we're still passing dudes over because they were pilots. I am not bitter, seriously- I have had my chess game going for a long time. highly recommend that to future operators!

  13. Love the pic you chose. Well done. Yep, everyone's right. The AF will teach you what you need to know. I will say, however, that basic abilities go a long way. I flew the mighty tweet (it had very old school instruments)....and I learned a lot. The C-17 is glass (as most airframes are nowadays) but I feel comfortable flying old school, too (it does have standby steam gauges). I've noticed over the years the T-6 types rely on the automation/glass and don't understand the steam. IMHO, if you're trying to be a good instrument pilot (good on you), I'd go fly some approaches in a 172 under the foggles. I mean this sincerely. Yeah, the panel won't apply directly to a T-6 or a C-17 or whatever, but the basic skills definitely do. Edit: do approaches in a 172 that has steam gauges. Almost forgot that some current 172 panels make what you'll see in the AF look archaic.
  14. I thought one of the main reasons for the "new" SOS was to eliminate the need to do SOS online and then go do it again (also to get rid of ASBC). Additionally, I thought they were going to pretty much send everyone. Sounds like it is more of the same just a longer SOS. Nice....

Quick lesson and this is over because no one wants to see this crap on this board. -SOS is not some elite program you attended, get over it -It is not that difficult to get "selected" to go there -Just about everyone on BODN (except SNAPS obviously) has been there and done that -If you want to be a great leader that you seem to want to portray, you should find a way to motivate people that don't have SOS in their future to make it. A real leader will find a way to inspire someone to achieve things. Real leaders don't sit and judge people, especially against one's self -- certainly not using SOS as criteria........SOS? YGBFSM! -You are inspired from some dude named Liquid on this board. Maybe he/she is for real, maybe not....but if that's where you are drawing your inspiration from then I don't even know what to say When I said you are what's wrong with the AF, here's what I am thinking: It seems you think that leadership is about "mentoring" people to be like you -- someone who really thinks that SOS is the end all be all (as an example). Since you went you are the shit and no one can measure up to you. Get over it, I don't care what your commanders say, almost everyone goes to SOS. You aren't special and you need to drink a cup of STFU and listen. OUT. To other posters: You are right, enuf on SOS. Next beer's on me.

That person probably cares even less about SOS after your "awesome" feedback. I'd argue most solid dudes could give 10 less shits about SOS...a borderline dude might give 20 less shits....nice work. Good on you for getting the upper hand on the situation - anyone with half a brain would do the same thing Along with your YGBSM part, I can see the other end of the spectrum on this: A prior E who doesn't qualify for the bonus (has more than 16 TAFMS at ADSC completion) will probably get a 365 instead of a bonus to persuade his/her decision to stay to retirement.............what does someone do in that situation? 1. Take the 365 (win for AF) or 2. Punch (yay, no retirement for you! Also win for AF) Probably part of GC's "we got this" BS...........Uggh
  18. I don't understand the reasoning w/MAJCOM pushes being bad. Push lines are supposed to be logical -- I've seen several solid new majors go to MAJCOM staff -- that is a normal progression. I don't care about the secret codes, I really don't. Often, I think people really look into them too much. Granted, I am not a member of the secret society of secret OPR code writers..........
  19. "2" I'm in a situation where it's not worth transferring remaining GI Bill and incurring another 4yr ADSC. Like you said, I could use HPA for free to get my ATP (oh and by the way the type) instead of shelling out 2-3K for the ATP out of pocket. I see what people are saying about other airlines "penalizing" for the 737 type..............but I don't think I'd want to fly for a company that penalizes someone for having a 737 type....especially when it was a result of using up GI Bill. Anyone know anyone in the industry that can spread the word that miltary pilots might get the 737 type because it is actually cheaper than out-of-pocket ATP? Would be nice if the hiring officials knew the real story. Edit: stupid computer.
  20. Not dogging on tankers in any way. What I was trying to say was pick based on core mission. Tankers definitely do more than AR but the core mission is AR. 17s core mission is to take stuff from A-B often tactically and do AR on the way. Both cool, just different core missions.
  21. If you want to be tactical such as flying low-level, doing assault landings, NVG ops, etc pick the C-17. You will also have a chance to travel the world. If you'd rather focus on the civilian-based airframe, fly circles and tracks, pick the KC-10. They travel, too but I will just say that I have been places I'd never have had the opportunity to see otherwise by flying the 17. Every 10 person I know loves it and every 17 pilot I know loves it, too. As someone said earlier, pick the jet based on mission - there is probably going to be a level of BS in every job you will ever have.

  24. I always thought it applied to active duty, too. Couldn't find anything other than title 10 as mentioned ^ Has the AF ever anyone heard of someone booted someone at 18 for simply not getting promoted (no UCMJ etc issues)?
