  1. I have a similar situation as mattmoon, but won't be on AD for awhile. Is it possible to have corrective surgery AFTER going to Brooks? I haven't been able to find a concrete answer on whether it can be done or not. I got my FC1 back in April with 20/50 vision and a -1.25 prescription, which isn't terrible, but I can't stand wearing contacts. I've worn contacts for several years and have gone back and forth on the idea of having surgery, but lately I've really been considering it so I won't have to deal with corrective lenses during pilot training. I'm a senior in AFROTC, commissioning in May, and headed to Sheppard sometime thereafter. However, I don't have any of my dates yet and likely won't have them for awhile. The only thing that I know is that I'm commissioning on May 15th. If it's possible to have the surgery, I'd like to have it within the next month or so. The only thing that worries me is that there's a certain post op timeline that would prevent me from being able to enter active duty or start any of my training (ASBC, IFS, etc.). I would love to have my eyes corrected, I just don't want to jeopardize anything with my slot. Basically, is there some sort of reg that prohibits surgery after MFS is completed? If not, is there a prescribed timeline after surgery where I'd have to wait to commission, EAD, start training, etc.? Realizing that it'll be hard to get surgery after starting pilot training, I feel like I should do it now instead of dealing with contacts until I can find a break in flying status (which I assume would be quite a few years). Thanks!
  2. Did anyone get picked up for freefall this year? Also, I haven't heard anything about an alternate list. I remember there being one when I applied as a 100 because I got put on it.
  3. I'm an AS300 in AFROTC and have an appointment set up to have PRK on 8 October. I've talked to the NCOs at my Det but haven't gotten a really straight answer about whether it's possible for me to have the surgery this late in the game. I keep seeing something about a 3 month period before you can apply for a waiver. Since I'm having the surgery in October, the earliest I'll be able to submit for the waiver is 8 January. Is that too late? Also, is there anything I need to be doing right now (paperwork, etc.) before having my surgery? I'm trying to get a straight answer from someone who's had surgery as an AS300, or someone who knows the regulations, seeing as most people have it done their AS100 or AS200 year. Thanks. Dan
  4. How come some sources say that the visual acuity requirements for a pilot in the AF is 20/70, and some others such as the AFROTC website say that it is 20/50?
  5. Oh, no I meant that it has a crosstown agreement with University of Virginia. At your community college was there alredy a crosstown agreement or did you just negotiate one with the ROTC detachment?
  6. Oh ok, yeah I understand what you're saying. Yeah I'm definitely going for a pilot slot and I get what you're saying about it being risky. I'll just wait and see how things go down the road. Thanks for the information.
  7. What if you did two years in one detachment, and then two in another? I was wondering because I plan on going to Virginia Tech next year and doing ROTC, but if I don't get accepted to Tech, then I'm going to go to a two year community college that has ROTC and then transfer to Tech. The problem is they're both different detachments, so would it be better just to stick with the same detachment and transfer to one of the crosstown schools instead of Tech?
