  1. This was my experience. I struggled getting my PPL. I'd fly, sit for a couple weeks due to bad WX, rinse repeat. I made little progress. As soon as I started flying consistently 2-3 times per week it all got much much easier.
  2. LISTEN KID. I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at Embry Riddle. I'm out here doing ground ops every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the taxiway for 48 minutes. - Roger Murdock

  4. This is exactly like a football player fumbling and the coach having him carry the football to class. I love it.
  5. It even includes the legend of the sign from Enid's founding. That makes my top five, but as an 80's kid I'm biased towards the vaporwave aesthetic.
  6. The article is vague, but it sounds like he was in the hospital for the better part of a week. If I'm reading that incorrectly, please ignore my post. What horrifies me is that the SECDEF is in the hospital for days and no-one in his office bothers to inform the White House. I'm equally horrified that the White House apparently did not notice they hadn't heard from him in several days. Does he have a spouse that could have called someone? Did SECDEF notify anyone or was it the kind of medical emergency that would preclude that? Did his staff know or did they not know? If they knew did they inform the White House? If they didn't know, did they just ignore a missing SECDEF for several days? I've had people no-show for work and if I can't get them to pick up the phone I go to their house and knock on their door, even if it's 3 am. This is basic Lieutenant level stuff that the very top of our government got wrong. The whole situation is utterly inexcusable and the public is owed a straight answer on what went wrong.
  7. The idea is to let dudes transfer in time for the next semester at their new school. If they're going to "play school" as well, you've got to let them transfer in December.
  8. The 24 team playoff works great for FCS. All games but the National Championship are played on campus and the process is in every way superior to what FBS is doing. Every conference* is represented and there are plenty of at large spots. There's none of this handwringing over what to do with multiple Conference Champions with the same record. Fill out the bracket and let em play. Works great. *With the exception of the MEAC and SWAC whose champions play in the Celebration Bowl instead and the Ivy League which doesn't participate in the post season.
  9. When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the Republic. - Benjamin Franklin
  10. Nebraska went to the Big 10 Championship game in 2012, where they were stomped by Wisconsin. That's the last time they had any notable success.
  11. In 2016 I reached out to Kristi Noem's office for help with a recalcitrant office not processing my separation in a timely fashion and got a complete resolution within 18 hours. It sounds like South Dakotans are electing people who aren't messing around.
  12. I was in CA the last couple weeks and the whole "armed guards in grocery stores" thing is wild.
  13. I hate the Container of Nightmares. I have to take the same damn test for my civilian job and I can always hear my heartbeat and wonder whether I'm imagining the faint tones. I'm not claustrophobic, but I hate that damn hearing test.
  14. Not doing this is my absolute number one professional regret in my career. A LOT of other shit went wrong, but this one I could have controlled and did not.
  15. Imagine being the poor bastard having to explain to a four star that not only has he been ratioed and then dragged on Twitter, but that he has become a meme on a subreddit. Then imagine trying to be that poor bastard's supervisor trying to turn that nonsense into an OPR bullet.
  16. You can literally see where the city limits are by the presence of the homeless.
  17. I flew three different aircraft and jalapeno corn was a thing in all three.
  18. In 2016 Kamala had a higher profile as the state attorney general than her opponent, Loretta Sanchez, a backbencher congresswoman. She also had higher profile endorsements than her opponent and raised a lot more money. No-one would mistake Kamala Harris for a great campaigner, but she started with all the advantages and turned that into a 23 point win. Newsom in 2018's only real competition from the Democratic Party was LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. This was a similar outcome in that Newsom started with big advantages in name recognition, endorsements and funding and cruised to an easy victory in the primary.
  19. They don't make as much, but transaction fees charged to merchants every time you swipe add up.
  20. This was all I could think of when I saw dude got the axe before he even got to the ceremony. https://www.duffelblog.com/p/air-force-change-of-command
  21. There's probably a governor named Ronald running in 2024, just saying.
  22. IIRC he was dumb enough to pay for it with a credit card as well.
  23. The reality is the RNC and Republican establishment does not have the pull to pick a candidate. It was screamingly obvious they wanted someone, anyone else but Trump in 2016. He consistently got around 35-45% in the competitive primaries. If the "establishment" had the power to force candidates out of primaries, they would have done so, allowing one of the more traditional candidates to consolidate the remaining 55-65% of the primary vote. Instead, multiple candidates stayed in the race and split the vote allowing Trump to win. Additionally, the previous GOP President left office with horrific approval ratings and does not have any pull with the party, unlike Obama for the Democrats. If W had called Rubio and Kasich and 2016 to tell them to get out of the race so Cruz could consolidate support (like Obama did to Mayor Pete and Klobuchar after Biden won SC in 2020), I suspect they would have laughed at him.
