  1. - Gratuitous, graphic violence in movies and video games - Diminishing respect for authority and elders - Over-sexualization in all forms of media - Increasing dependence on government (evidenced by increases in welfare/entitlement spending) - Entitlement mentality of younger generations - Acceptance of homosexuality as moral behavior - Redefinition of gender and family roles C'mon dude, do you live under a rock? Times, they are a changin'. The trend is not a positive one. Ah, but you failed to highlight the most important word in my post: eventually. I still have faith in our way of life, but we have problems that, if left uncorrected, will cause an eventual breakdown.
  2. My disappointment is not with law or governance, after all, laws should reflect our society's values. Gay marriage is now legal in many states because a majority of Americans now support gay marriage. I am concerned about our nation's rapid shift away from traditional moral values and the effect that will have on our country. The percentage of citizens who look to the bible (or any religion) to inform them of what's right and wrong has been on the decline for many years. Moral relativism and postmodernism has taken its place. Notions of right and wrong have been replaced with "indifference" and "live and let live". When people stop caring about what's right and wrong, chaos and anarchy eventually ensue. We are Rome.
  3. Indifference is an excellent synonym for "lack of a spine". However, do not be alarmed, you are not alone in your ailment. Presently it appears to be endemic in America. The dark shadow of prosperity is the breeding ground for moral relativism. Much like Rome, our moral compass will continue to point astray while Vertigo and his ilk sing the chorus "live and let live - anything goes".
  4. Like this guy, right? http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/06/26/1219185/-Tammy-Duckworth-blasts-federal-contractor-who-got-preferential-status-for-football-injury If you mean that I believe there is a higher moral code than the incredibly flawed one I come up with when I wake up in the morning, then yes, in my case you would be correct.
  5. You might not consider yourself an idiot but you are. If you believe it is a phobia for a man to be uncomfortable around another man who is hyper-effemenite then you are pretty far down the road of idiocy.
  6. Am I understanding you correctly that you would be OK with incestual marraiges as long as enough people supported it? Do you believe anything can be "right" or "wrong"? Serious question.
  7. No there's not, at least to those that have declared war on men. In the eyes of the emasculators, if you don't support each new "equality measure" then you are a misogynistic caveman.
  8. It sounds like you have a pretty balanced view, but the Air Force of late does not. I'll give you an example: As I've stated publicly, I am of the opinion that women should not be in combat roles. I also let the f-bomb drop from time to time. I'm sure some women at work have heard me say it, although definitely not directed at them. During the last SAPR training we received, we were briefed that cursing creates a "hostile sexual work environment", which is a form of sexual harassment. See what they did there? Men who don't agree with woman in combat + dropping the F-bomb = Sexual harassers who degrade women because they doesn't feel they're equal. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I curse, drink, sing fighter pilots songs and raise hell from time to time as generations of fighter pilots have for decades because it goes with the territory. The ideal of the warrior monk is a nice idea, but it just ain't realistic. Warriors will find ways to deal with war as they always have. As for women in combat, my view is that combat effectiveness is more valuable than pandering to the wishes of a very small segment of society (women who want to be in combat roles). I have yet to hear an effective argument for how women in combat units can increase effectiveness. But at the end of the day, the feminist lobby and their friends are interested only in the emasculation of men, and the Air Force continues to find new ways to reach that goal. Regardless of what popular culture says, I believe there is value in men defending and protecting their wives, their children, their country. The idea of a woman being blown apart on a battle field is revolting. What would happen to them in the hands of the enemy is even worse. Where did we go so wrong as a country to believe that women would be elevated by putting them in foxholes?
  9. I was nodding my nugget in agreement until I got to this last part. So I'll let you clarify: If I don't believe women should be in combat roles, do I need to retire? If I think I should be allowed to curse, drink, curse while drinking and generally raise hell with the bros after raining death on the enemy is it time for me to retire / separate? When I say raising hell I'm not talking about playing grab ass or making sexual comments to airman hottie. I'm talking about creative uses of the word f*ck (bonus points for multiple parts of speech in the same sentence), singing fighter pilot songs, and other particulars of the fighter pilot tradition that I'm proud to be part of.
  10. On a TDY a few years back the squadron rented a beach house. We decided to create a list of 10 house rules. Number 1 was "If everyone else in the room is an asshole, it might just be you." I can't claim credit for coming up with it, but I laughed when I first read it. I laughed mostly because was thinking of the times that I was convinced all of my bros in the squadron were assholes. Looking back, without a doubt, every time, it was me.
  11. OK dude, since apparently the logics confuse you: You classified the military as on the whole having low moral character, while insinuating that you are morally superior to your "bros". Grabby pointed out that you are using slippery slope arguments (have you ever sped? you're a dangerous driver.) and noted your self-righteous tone. You dismissed his comments out of hand and compared him to someone you believe to be a sexual assaulter. You're being a douchebag. Stop.
  12. http://www.rentrecoveryservice.com/ http://www.tenantcollection.com/processing_fee.htm http://www.mrlandlord.com/html/resreport_intro.html You can also take them to small claims court and get a judgement, but good luck collecting. They will have an outstanding judgement that shows up in the court records that will indicate what kind of tenant they are. That should be enough to put future landlords on notice.
  13. Wonder why they mounted the camera upside down?
  14. And I ask: What is the punishment for a woman who falsely accuses a man of sexual assault, destroys his career, and causes him to spend 4 months in jail?
  15. It gives me great pride in my fellow citizens to see the large numbers of them, first responders and not, that immediately ran toward the site of the blast, with no thought of anything other than helping people they did not know. If the attackers hoped to demonstrate some underlying flaw in the American character, they failed. ... To Boston
  16. I've been reading these forums since 2002. In 2002 these forums helped me get a pilot training slot. From 2003 - 2006 these forums taught me that I was just a dumb ass LT who had a lot of learning to do. In 2007 these forums gave me a better idea of what my first deployment to the sandbox would be like. In the last several years I have learned a great deal about what to do with my career if congress suddenly decides to shut my Guard unit down. These forums are doing just fine. Rich would be happy. There's nothing wrong with political discussion in the right forum. Winston Churchill once remarked that the "distinction between politics and strategy diminishes as the point of view is raised. At the summit true politics and strategy are one." I would argue that even if we, as service members, don't engage in politics, we should at least understand it. The political discussions I have encountered on these forums have been as enlightening to me as the military ones. I don't watch TV very much. I don't do Facebook. I read baseops.net. But only because I can come here to find open, frank discussions about a wide variety of topics. Despite my strong disagreement with the overwhelming majority of their viewpoints, this place would be a lot less interesting without the people you mentioned above. Let's not turn this forum into one giant bath water drinking, self-licking ice cream cone by silencing those who's interests or views differ from those of the majority.
  17. Currently front and center on cnn.com. http://www.cnn.com/2....html?hpt=hp_c1 I'm all for lowering the precedence of the medal, but it seems to me like this guy has a real hard-on for the RPA guys. "...high-tech cowboys..." "...sipping coffee and checking your e-mail thousands of miles away in a control room in Virginia..." Standard ivory tower bullshit.
  18. Go to www.af.mil. Count the number of "Top Stories" or "Headlines" that are diversity/gender-related on the front page. WTF? The new fighter pilot prayer: "Dear Lord, please unf*ck our Air Force".
  19. None of the pilots do. We have plenty of traditional enlisted personnel that live in OKC, even other states. The rule only applies to pilots.
  20. To be clear: you don't have to live within 50 miles of Tulsa at the time you are hired. However, once hired you are required to move within 50 miles of the airport. It's been our policy for a long time and I know it's been tested in the past (I'm not sure whether legally or otherwise), and upheld. I would think the law would give unit commanders discretion over how far their troops can live from the base.
