  2. pretty amazing quote..."IN ALL THE HISTORY OF RESPIRATORY BORNE VIRUSES OF ANY TYPE...THE DRIVER OF OUTBREAKS IS ALWAYS A SYMPTOMATIC PERSON." so this "expert" who has studied this stuff his whole career gets up and makes such a firm claim...then why the need to keep healthy people quarantined/locked down? and why did his view points on how historically respiratory viruses spread change within ONE YEAR when this was his professionally stated opinion for years? it's amazing no one calls this guy on his BS he's been wrong about everything to the detriment of our society and freedom. 3. I think some aspect of the moronic adherence to wearing glow belts stemmed from the Army's example. As I understand it, glow belts were first a thing at the Army locations (i.e. Bagram, Kabul, etc.) and metastisized to elsewhere. That is not to excuse AF leadership for following the Army's lead, though. My assignment at an Army post and working with Army folks now convinces me that no one can perform the moronic quite like the Army.

  4. Not directly related to your post but I wanted to point out that as all deployed locations move away from the reflective belt insanity of last decade, there has been no epidemic of people being hit by cars. No passengers mowed down by fuel trucks on the flight line, no one hit by a car walking to chow. In fact it looks like the entire justification for the authoritarian reflective belt polices and enforcement is total bunk. Time has proven that generation of leadership as completely wrong in their risk assessment. Every O-6 who sent chiefs hunting aircrew without reflective belts really was a total moron like we all thought; safeguarding us from a theoretical but overblown threat, and making life miserable for no good reason at all. It was all bullshit from the get go, and they were all idiots at implementation. One day we’ll look back at this mask phase with the same conclusion. Why can’t smarter people lead?

  6. To be fair, there is a pretty massive difference between saying you are going to boycott a product, service, person, sports league, etc.. (even if some of the reasoning seems silly or ridiculous) by not buying or partaking in what they are offering; vs a concerted effort to smear and ultimately remove and destroy a person, business, idea, symbol, tv show, book, movie, etc... Example: I personally do not watch a second of NBA basketball and have not for years now. My reasoning is based not only on the ridiculous woke, political, and pro Chinese crap the league has spouted in recent history, but also the fact that it’s absolutely garbage basketball. However, my choice to not watch is my own and I don’t give a shit if someone else absolutely loves to watch the NBA, that’s their choice and they have every right to do so. By choosing not to watch, I don’t have to see the stuff I don’t like (imagine that!) and if enough people ultimately start to feel like I do, it will hurt the league in its pocketbook and they may actually make a change that adjusts to the demands of their customers. Which btw, actually seems to have happened with the NBA when their ratings went in the absolute toilet last year, and magically this year they’ve reduced a large amount of their political messaging. Maybe the next move they can make is raising the shot clock to 30 seconds and making them play defense. I digress... What you won’t see me doing is throwing a temper tantrum through social media and interviews on CNN about how the NBA doesn’t prescribe to my cultural norms and needs to be removed from the face of the earth, damn the rest of you!

  7. What's the take home pay after taxes on $15,000... $11,500? Based on working an 8-hour day, that is a a $5.53 per hour raise. Based on working a 10-hour day, that is a $4.42 per hour raise.

  8. Award for best looking F1 car this year goes to (envelope please): Aston-Martin - love a British racing green car Runner-up (tie) Alpine Mercedes (very Darth Vader-ish as they stick with the fighting racism 'cuz it's black despite still being a "Silver Arrow, but whatever...) Worst is rebadged Hass which I refuse to post a pic. Also might not last as they are really trying to skirt the "no Russian flag due to sports cheating" rule in place, but the billionaire Russian sponsor wants what he wants... as an aside, I believe Kaepernik is still not been offered a spot on an F1 team or an NFL one...

  10. All this talk about reviving the companion trainer in a light GA platform sounds like a damn good reason to bring back aero clubs...and then budget a chunk of hours each year for a co/wingman to go burn there.

  11. If COVID is so deadly, shouldn't we be giving the vaccine to people that will actually die if they get the virus instead of a group of people that are all generally health and generally cannot have co-morbidity issues? It seems to me that it is extremely irresponsible, to the point of being borderline criminal, to give the vaccine to the military before the general population.

  18. Plus the guidance that you'll still be expected to quarantine if you are exposed even after the vaccine. And they're still quarantining troops prior to deployments, even with 100% vaccination AND the virus already established at the destination. Tough to think of a better example of the brass doing something that actively hurts the military members and the mission simply so they can say 'look! we're doing something'.

  20. It doesn’t take much longer to TERPS a conventional approach either. It is also done remotely by the MAJCOM that “owns” that airfield (not your MAJCOM). They can’t and don’t flight check it which is why the Giant Reports ask for crews to do a flyability check. In fact, the most common reason why an approach never makes it into DoD FLIP after the MAJCOM does the review is publication requires a flyability check and no one ever does them. Boy, I wish I knew something about FTIP reviews, procedure validation, US TERPS, PANS-OPS, MIPS, comparison reviews, accreditation, the DoD HN Accepted list, or any of this. Thanks for the lesson. GPS approaches are easy to work with...until I shut off your access to GPS from the ground.

  22. This bonus pretty much says: “Hey, we know the people taking the bonus were probably going to stay anyhow. Maybe a few took short term bonuses while they built hours and polished up their guard/reserve/airline apps but that’s not what we want. We’ve (USAF) lost the battle for retention. We will reward those who after their 10+ year commitment, sign on to finish a career. We want loyalists, pilots who will do our will guaranteed to be at our whim until they retire. We are not interested in pilots who wish to ‘keep options open’ by failing to commit long term.” That’s how it reads to me. If you are unhappy with your options: quit. I wanted a short term bonus, of course I think I deserve it and the USAF is f-ing me over just like everyone else not getting it. It wasn’t offered. I’ll sport bitch but at the end of the day, if I don’t quit, I’m just bitching because I’m entitled. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  23. I’d argue the entire reason commanders want their troops vaccinated has nothing to due with actual risk to force and everything to do with the pain in the ass that is all the COVID mitigation’s and hurdles put in front of training and deployments. Likewise I’d say we could do far more good vaccinating dependents vs non deployed garrison forces. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  27. It affects "initial eligible" and "contract-expired/non-contracted" since 11Rs are missing from both tiers. Flying a new MWS via the cross-flow/interview programs can change your core AFSC and primary DT functional. For example, you're an 11R that gets picked up by the 89th. You're now considered an 11M and managed by the MAF DT (think IDE, DT vectors, and Sq/CC boards). On the flip side, say you're an 11M that interviews and gets picked up by the E-4/U-2. You are now considered an 11R by core AFSC and managed by the CAF DT. The aviation bonus program uses the core ID to determine who is in what "tier" based on retention goals. Therefore, bonus for 89th pilot...no bonus for U-2/E-4 pilot. Another consideration in this is UPT. If you're an 11R that becomes a UPT instructor, you'll keep your core AFSC. This means that even though you're outside of an 11R flying community, you're still ineligible for this year's bonus based on the retention of core AFSC.

  28. Still somewhat unbelievable that there was no mention of 11R in the PSDM. I’m not an 11R so I have no clue as to what their life is really like or how their manning is perceived by those in the trenches...but to not even offer a bonus is a pretty bold move. Whether by design or through some sheer dumb publishing/copy +paste error it sends a very clear message. “Do you want ants?”

  29. Hmm. I like Eddie Murphy a lot. His stand up comedy is brilliant. The original Coming to America was funny and a little edgy ("You may now clean the Royal penis") but that trailer makes the sequel look dull and potentially just a little woke.

  30. The difference between major and ltcol pay at 20 is about 12%. With flyers being pretty much autocontinued, you really have to debate whether those extra hoops are worth jumping through.

  31. Going through that process as I set up to receive my new airplane this fall. It will go into an LLC and I will lease it back to myself. I pay a monthly usage fee to the LLC which includes sales tax. I remit the sales tax to the state then the LLC will pay me back the remainder...right pocket to left pocket. This allows me to drag out the sales tax of $48K over many years instead of one giant check to the state. I think I can meet the 25% threshold for business usage which will also allow me to write off part of the cost and do some depreciation.

  32. The whiplash will continue and it kills me to see these short-sighted decisions. Two years from now when everyone is running for the doors again they will re-rollout the "We care about you, what can we do to make it better" bullshit. This falls SQUARELY on the shoulders senior leadership that doesn't have the stones to stand up and tell Congress and others to help now to prevent chaos later.

  33. Funny you mention that. As I'm reading this thread, I'm thinking to myself, slap a GNS430W into an original T-6 Texan and it would be a MUCH better platform to make good pilots than the Texan II. I had Mustang pilot tell me you needed about 50 hours in a Mustang before you flew the T-6. Controllable pitch prop, it does nothing for you, so you have to stay on your toes and it's will make you a heck of a stick and rudder pilot (T/O & Landing) in the process. But ya, a Super D would do...cheaper, just less cool. 😎 Same reason they can't pay me the correct flight pay, and haven't been able to since 2017 or 2018 (but don't worry, the fix will roll out Jan 2020). You can slap a WAAS capable GNS430 in to a beat-up old 172 and fly it down to 200 feet in every "burg & ville" in the U.S., and the AF can't even get their primary trainer to do it.

  40. It's going to take longer than that, I expect there will be more OSI/CID/NCIS directed involvement to root out this sort of thing. It reminds me of stories my Dad would tell about local gang issues he had while he was running the comm workcenters while on the ship. Just more largely organized, which is worse. //break break// You guys thinking @slackline is a troll because he disagrees with you and won't back down is hilarious.
