  1. I know it’s Bill Maher, but trust me you non-Dems (and probably Dems) will like this.

  3. Well, aside from being a former "fighter guy" I also have spent the last 5 years wrangling #300,000 airliners around, so I'd like to think I have a little insight there as well. I took that photo I posted of a poster on the wall of where I work. Nowhere did I say it wasn't an area where people have and do make airmanship mistakes. I was making (theoretical) fun of a military branch, who kills people and breaks things in some of the most hazardous-to-life actions and locations in human existence, allowing the force's skills, training, and currency to degrade to a point where something as basic as a visual approach becomes "more challenging" than the mission things.

  4. That's fine, you guys are cleared to disagree. I still think you're wrong. There are more republican voters in California, whose votes don't matter at all, than those in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and West Virginia combined. If you look into it, you aren't really following the constitutional founding fathers' intentions. The number of electors was always intended to be the number of senators plus the number of representatives. As our society grew from about 35k people / representative to the 700k people / rep that we have now, the impact of the people should have increased proportionally because the number of representatives should have increased. George Washington argued that there should be a representative for every 30k people. But in 1913, # of representatives was capped arbitrarily to 435. This contributed, strongly, to the undue voter weight of extremely small portions of America and the disregard for vast sects of society. Now the tyranny of the minority has resulted in 2 of the last 3 presidents being elected by the minority of voters. Before, this had only happened 3 times. I'm doubtful this was the intent of the constitution or the founding fathers. Or maybe California should just split into 5-10 smaller states so that their voices are heard.

  6. I have! Many times. But Beale has a 12,000 runway so no factor, even in the T-38. That said, the F-16 mishap doesn't appear to be a duckunder, but rather a misinterpretation of the lighting that he saw. And as stated elsewhere, the F-35 Class A seems to be more a function of poor decision making in that he didn't go around on final when he had problems, long before he crossed the runway threshold (although the Board President didn't address that issue... shockingly, IMO). "Thing on the thing on the thing"... my gut feeling tells me that letting UPT students land the T-38 30% of the time without the HUD might have some benefits. But what the fuck do I know? I had a pretty long post planned about "admin" and such during the briefing. Having edited it down, I'll tell you this: one of my two best friends in UPT died 7 months after we got our wings in a landing accident. In my 34 years since that date, it seems an inordinate number of pilots have Class A'd aircraft on approaches and landings. Fighters, bombers, heavies, trainers... none are immune. "Admin" or not, if you fuck it up, it will allow the ChiCom's to chalk up a kill

  9. I gotta disagree with you on this one. The country is not evenly divided, and it is unhealthy for all the big cities to be making the legislation that governs the rural areas. Electoral college is the best prevention against one specific ideology running the country while alienating an entire half of the country. It's a good way to keep the masses from voting mob rules. 11. You're gonna need a lot more affidavits from election worker randos to convince me that election fraud is the root cause of trump losing virtually every swing state up for grabs and the popular vote by 6-9 million. You can't take "eyewitness" anecdotes from one district and extrapolate that into a broader fraud narrative in an election where 150 million people voted.

  12. This. This is the most coherent argument against the Left. Those of us who are left of center need to internalize this message. If you’re on the other side, don’t worry, you’ve got plenty of your own wackos to recon with (see pretty much all of Sim’s posts above).

  14. Except, it hasn't functioned as written in over 100 years, when the number of representatives was capped at 435. Anyone who claims to support the idea of the electoral college due to founding principles has to at least acknowledge this disparity, that gives a Wyoming resident 3x the voting power of a Texas resident. The "Wyoming Rule" is a workable fix for this, but I doubt we'll see it.

  15. Nope, it should function as written no matter what the leaning of the metropolis. Those are the rules and how our country operates. The idea of California being at least three states, however, is definitely a good academic exercise because of how different things are in all those areas.

  16. All valid puts, but I still maintain that the left hates the electoral college simply because it doesn't benefit them. See my comment on political opportunism. You're arguing on principle, but if we applied that principle evenly, why don't they have a problem with Rhode Island, Vermont, and Connecticut electors or the senate in general? Is every not perfectly representational part of our government bad or just the parts that don't currently benefit the left?

  17. You'll never get answers. Give up. It's like the Biden laptop with all of its damning, foolproof evidence. Gonna change the election, smoking gun, etc. Mum's the word on it. They threw a hail Mary bluff with it, but in truth, had nothing. You'll never hear a mea culpa on it. They'll say, but the true media, the YouTube army says it's true! MSM wouldn't let it be published... Some other such garbage. Remember, I asked about this very outcome before the election. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. The all caps make it a certainty that a boomer wrote this. It looks even more embarrassing in light of the facts behind Michigan's ALLEGATIONS though: "But a closer look at the affidavits showed that many did not allege any wrongdoing with ballots. Instead, they showed poll challengers complaining about other things: a loud public-address system, mean looks from poll workers, and a Democratic poll watcher who said “Go back to the suburbs, Karen.” Some poll observers had become suspicious simply after seeing many ballots cast for Democrats — in Detroit, a heavily Democratic city where Biden won 94 percent of the vote. “I specifically noticed that every ballot I observed was cast for Joe Biden,” one observer wrote. The Trump campaign filed that as evidence in court. In other cases, poll challengers raised issues with procedures that election workers say were normal. Some, for instance, noted that workers input voters’ birth dates as January 1, 1900. Election officials say that was a quirk of the computer system: It required workers to enter a voter’s birth date at a step when they did not have access to that information, so they were told to enter a placeholder. So far, Trump and his allies have faced a judge three times in Michigan. All three times, it went poorly. In one case, the plaintiffs relied on testimony from a poll worker, who was relaying what she’d been told by an unidentified election worker. Judge Cynthia Stephens said that was hearsay. Inadmissible. The lawyer tried to argue. “ ‘I heard somebody else say something,’ ” Stephens said. “Tell me why that’s not hearsay. Come on, now.” Stephens ruled against the plaintiffs. A few days later, Judge Timothy M. Kenny heard a similar argument from another group of Republican plaintiffs. He asked how well the Republican poll-watchers understood the procedures they were watching. The city had conducted a “walk-through” for Republican poll-challengers in late October, long before the counting began, to show how the absentee ballot counting procedure worked. Had the plaintiff’s poll watchers been there, to learn about the process they were now objecting to? No, the plaintiff’s lawyer said. They had not known about it. “Plaintiff’s affiants did not have a full understanding of the [convention center] absentee ballot counting process,” Kenny wrote in an opinion. “However, sinister, fraudulent motives were ascribed to the process and the City of Detroit. Plaintiff’s interpretation of events is incorrect and not credible.”

  19. I have not gotten started on AWC. Not sure if I'm going to...retiring as an O-5 is perfectly fine for me. Not sure I see much point in it...Might hold on to that card to play when I'm in a higher OPSTEMPO job. "Sorry boss, I can't do X, Y, and Z, I'm really swamped with AWC right now..."

  20. I think hybrid flying is great once you have the foundation. As an example, we have a detailed moving map in the jet that students aren’t allowed to use during low altitude navigation until they demonstrate proficiency using paper maps to navigate by terrain features. You definitely end up using hybrid flying for point to point navigation, but they way we do it in the hawg is really just homing on a steer point. My second statement contradicts the first, but that is the difference between a single seat and a crewed aircraft. I’m not going to tell you what to do in your cockpit outside of basic instructor recommendations for new/struggling guys. Be a good, tactically proficient pilot flying the jet per the T.O. and I don’t care what you’re doing in there.

  21. Why not? It seems like such a simple thing to give yourself another tool to fly a visual approach. This is truly what I see as the great cultural difference between fighter pilots and heavy pilots. That and an irrational avoidance of the word “head”.

  23. My best guess is tanker units stopped shopping for things with sequestration...fly shorter sorties closer to home (see either 7BAx2 or 777 only). Then OSTs forgot they’re supposed to be managing training for the wing (forecasting training needs). Now, OSTs and OSOs have lost the corporate knowledge to seek out the training we need and units either get scraps or you see “hookups” begged for on Facebook. Funny thing is our training requirements haven’t increased...we just forgot how to do what we used to do.

  24. The evidence suggests that we have a pretty tight system. Should we strive to tighten it up more? Sure. But the idea that the system is compromised to the point that the results shouldn’t be trusted is just another one of Trumps dubious claims that is not remotely grounded in reality. Remember 2016 when he won and STILL insisted that there were millions of illegal votes (because his fragile ego couldn’t deal with the fact that he lost the popular vote)? There were investigations after that election and they found the same thing that every voter fraud investigation has: it simply doesn’t exist on a large enough scale to sway an election. Yet it’s a topic that Trump has pushed for years. If election security is such a problem, what has the administration done over the last four years to address it? Not much. You know why? Because it’s an easy trope to fall back on (especially when you lose) that plays well with the base.

  26. Here’s the truth. I don’t want to watch an hour long video on something when it’s not something that has been shown to be very likely a factor. Give me something that’s easier to digest, or something that points to a need to watch this. I 100% believe there was election fraud. There are probably many cases of it. But there are cases of election fraud every year on both sides. Right now, I believe that the order of magnitude of the fraud is the same as it always is - so small that it doesn’t matter. Put the numbers in context, at least. Don’t just say there’s examples of fraud - I know there will be on both sides. One of the examples that really falls on deaf ears is when someone claims that there are dozens of examples of election fraud in a state... and then it’s literally 25 single people who registered incorrectly. It comes across clickbaity, probably wouldn’t ever come close to affecting anything, and makes me less likely to care the next time. When I hear that there is provable fraud that has X impact that actually could affect the election results, I will be interested. Otherwise, it’s noise or propaganda.

  27. Parading another YouTube warrior who is clearly qualified by his owning of a mic, a camera and a YT account. No wonder you guys are such ardent defenders of everything Trump does. If that is the bar you've set, then yeah, a conspiracy theory doesn't seem so crazy. You have let Trump and all of these other completely unqualified people lead you down a primrose path... It's just not true. It actually hurts to see so many highly educated people buying everything coming out from all these YT experts and anyone with a mic and a camera. They're clearly not doing this stuff to drive subscribers and views on their own channels, therefore making more money... What would be more entertaining and drive views? A conspiracy theory with drama saying the election was stolen, or the more likely eventuality that the election played out almost exactly how it was predicted? Early lead for Trump because he downplayed the Rona and pushed for in person voting, followed by massive waves of mail-in ballots leading to a flip of that lead...? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  28. I was simply commenting on the fact that you constantly rail on and on about emotion being left out, so I found it odd you'd share something from someone who was so clearly emotional. I'd love for you to go back and point to my emotional arguments. Please. And you talk about using other sources to discredit things like it's bad... I'm taking a page out of Trump's playbook. That's where he lives. Zero facts, smear campaigns and attempts to discredit others that don't agree with him. At least every source I've used comes from reputable, highly informed people instead of consiracy quacks. Then when you don't like it, you say it's straight out of the communist playbook. Tell me that's not using emotional, baseless arguments... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  31. https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/11/13/1012115/senior-us-election-official-trumps-misinformation-is-insulting/ This guy is the Trump nominee, unanimously confirmed by both sides of the aisle. He calls the presidents false claims of voter fraud and "stealing the election" laughable, insulting, dangerous and an embarrassment. Trump needs to do a better job picking his cronies if he's gonna make it in 2024. Not official, but pretty dang close... I'm sure this, too, is a communist thing to say... Right out of the playbook, right?
