  1. How long before the POTUS reTweets this?

  2. Interesting stuff. For those out there that are interested in learning some more of the “how” of instruction, the FAA Aviation Instructor’s Handbook (FAA-H-8083-9A) is very good. If you don’t want to read the whole thing, focus on Ch 1-4 and 7-8. 5 & 6 are kind of OBE due to our V1, V2, and MIF criteria. Chapter 9 is supplanted by ORM processes. If you have a foreflight account, you can add it for free in the documents section. You can view it for free online as well, but you will have to buy a hard copy.

  3. So this guy, all 5' 8" of him, kicked the asses of three sky cops, retreated back into his house, broke a back window, crawled out, scaled the base perimeter face, escaped into the woods, evaded capture in difficult and wooded terrain, and has been on the lamb since 22 April? Fucking Rambo! How fucking embarrassing for the SMSgt Klexton Q. Jett, MSgt Derek L. Krahn and Officer John F. Breed! I am sure they appreciate their names being included in the article! 😂😂😂 And if/when they ever capture him, instead of throwing him in jail, they need to put him in charge of training at the 7th Security Forces Squadron! Apparently there's a lot he can teach the cops at Dyess! On a separate note, just another reason not to live on base!

  4. Best compliment I've received regarding instructing was a former A-10 IPUGer telling me he learned a lot from most of his IPs but I was the only one that taught him how to teach. And that was after attending Weapons school.

  5. Bronco II https://www.bronco-usa.com/bronco-ii/ https://www.janes.com/article/95937/bronco-ii-returns-for-socom-armed-overwatch-bid Should the aircraft be selected, the consortium plans to manufacture it at a facility in Crestview, Florida, as part of efforts to maintain the 'Buy American, Build American' requirements of the US government's procurement strategy. Very smart to put that in Rep Gaetz (Armed Services Committee) and AFSOCs back yard!

  6. Short answer - yes, ground forces care.

  7. Can we quote you in 30 years? "Man," said the F-69 pilot, "those Viper dinosaurs get on my nerves..."

  8. This. It’s been 15 years since my first ride in the Viper and I’ve done precisely one form approach for non-training reasons...and we split to land. Practice form approaches if you think it’s valuable, but I can’t think of a solid reason to practice the landings in a modern fighter. Even if you really shit the bed with fuel planning to a socked-in field with zero divert options, I’m pretty sure most of us would make it happen even if we’ve never done one. This same discussion is happening on the OFP Facebook page with dudes pitching in their “form land war stories” (barf). What do they all have in common? F-4s and Thuds. Get over it, dinosaurs.

  9. There’s a big difference between a form approach and a form landing. If I was dragging someone through the weather, or being dragged, it will be with them as far away from me as possible (preferably route), and only until the we break out of the weather. Then I’m going around, chase, or pushing them out to combat trail depending where we broke out. I wont be going anywhere near the flare, especially if any of the flight controls are disconnected or there is damage affecting controllability. If there’s nowhere to get through the weather and they are flying in man reversion then they aren’t getting anywhere near me on the wing. They are flying somewhere safe and punching out. We don’t train for form takeoffs or landings. At the most you’ll do a form approach, but I can’t remember the last time I’ve talked to anyone that has done one. I don’t think there a reason to fly them below the DA/VDP.

  10. You really don’t think that’s a skill you should have? Especially as an A-10 guy? The odds of anyone getting BDA and losing radios and/or Nav equipment and needing a formation letdown through the weather would be higher in your community than any other I would think. And by your logic, why are you practicing BFM? I’m sure you’ve never done any no kidding BFM in combat. I bet you’ve strafed, maybe marked a few targets, and dropped PGM. However, I’m sure you’ve applied “BFM concepts” to a bunch of things. That is why I think form approaches are a good thing. Thoughts?

  11. I'm not one to look at a gift horse in the mouth. AFRC has worked out very well for my family all things considered, and that's all I care about. To each their own.

  14. I only regret that I have but one like to give this post. Also, don't join the reserve squadron embedded into your current AD wing and expect all that much to change. The people who say it isn't that bad, have never really experienced life in elsewhere.

  15. You got that right. Never share iron with the AD if you have a choice. Plus your jets are pridefully maintained and clean if you will. One of my best friends still in one of my old Guard units (formerly part-time) landed himself an AGR position and just started 1 Apr. Told him it was the best move he could have made. He especially believes me now as he was at United with 5 years of seniority and like most he was unsure what the future holds. He remained in good standing/great worker/known quantity and was a previous Technician like myself there! Wish all the best for those doing the Guard thang. Nothing like a true safe haven during tough times. More points for retirement and he got a signing bonus - nothing beats that, good for him.

  16. Oh man that's so true. I tell people when I look back on it, the Air Force NEVER taught me to fly a plane. They handed me a manual and some CBTs and I taught myself. The Air Force simply provided a safety net of expereinced pilots in the back seat in case I screwed up who ensured I was continuing to make progress before letting me fly myself in a hole.

  18. I’d say that was the future except for that “Airbus” part. Boeing will piss and moan about that so they can deliver an inferior product behind timeline and over budget.

  19. It's unrealistic in the fighter world - and downright impossible as a new guy. Thankfully for us (fighters) you finish the pipeline and get 3 years of full time orders. If a pilot is really good, he/she can handle being a part timer and not become a safety limfac at that point. Each unit is different, but in my experience you just can't make it happen one week a month - too many things going against it.
