  1. Shoot, I applied 4 times at the same unit and interviewed 3 times before I got in (still pending MEPS/FC1). Just gotta keep pushing for what you want.

  2. To those that get discouraged by numbers like this dont be. Of those 180 once you start accounting for how many lack competitive AFOQT/PCSM scores, didn't visit, have close to zero flight hours, were just socially awkward, etc that whittles the numbers down. The Pacific Northwest is also a cool place to live which attracts more applicants and this board was very clear they had 4 openings (very unusual). The bar for simply emailing an application isn't that high. One of the pilots I met in Portland had to apply for 3 separate UPT boards before he got in. Focus on what you can control and keep your heads up kings.

  3. Had a similar issue a while back. I took myself off the flight schedule and met the IG in-person instead. Problem got solved while I sat there at the dude's desk.

  4. I can't speak for how competitive/how many gets asked to go rush or to interview because I have no idea, but that's really all you do/all I did was to submit a resume. I was contacted by the hiring officer the day after and just had a short, fairly casual chat, so he is looking at resumes as they come in. The timeline/process as he explained is the same as what was in the posting also. Best of luck!

  5. I flew with the Bats at a couple exercises during that time. Nothing in that article was particularly surprising. The sad thing is that the USAF isn't far behind. I experienced the same shift-swap shenanigans at PACAF (mostly Korea-centric) exercises. One led to the scariest landing I've done (at 5 am/night/IMC/trail ILS) and the other we called KIO at step. I have yet to receive any backlash for KIOing a sortie on the ground, but I know way too many young guys that don't think they have the right to call it. For any of the younger guys listening, you can call KIO. I've done it 3-4 times in my career and have only received "thank-you," "good call," or a non-chalant "ok, cool."

  6. Eye color? I know you’re being sarcastic, but nobody is calling for a thousand diversity groups. There are federally protected classes (race, gender, sex preference, etc.) that the military should make reasonable accommodations for. What we’re all arguing about is the extent of “reasonable.”

  8. Divided for two squadrons and it doesn’t seem so bad, right? 😅 😭

  9. I don't think there is a right or wrong. But we have people arguing for both "equality" and "diversity" when, in some cases, they are logically incompatible. If diversity is recognizing the differences in groups of people and putting a positive value on those differences, how do you achieve "equality" when you give "diversity" special status and privileges above everyone else? Choose one. Diversity is feelings, Equality is logic.

  11. I’m from the south so I can’t really put into words well what I’m trying to say. I think if anyone makes us a better fighting force then we need to make a way for them the be a part of the team. If they need exceptions to make that happen then we need to look at the reg and ask “why was this an issue to not wear headgear or have beards?” If we come to the conclusion that it was just a rule we made up for the sake of uniformity, maybe we just eliminate the rule altogether. Then woila, no exception is needed because now a well groomed beard is uniformly acceptable (i.e. the German military). But the military is not a social experiment and if it comes to the conclusion that someone being in the military is not in the military’s best interest (a paraplegic fighter pilot), then I would say, thank you for your offer of service, let’s find somewhere better suited for that service.
