  3. Uh, not quite. The Sunni portion, maybe, but that's only 1/3rd of the population. You're seeing the vocal minority reaction, not a consensus. I'm surprised it hasn't already occurred and maybe time will temper emotions so that it doesn't, but I'd guess the most likely outcome is the Shiite dominated Iraqi parliament votes to expel us with prodding behind the scenes from the Iranians. At that point we have no legal justification to operate within their borders and the international community won't take kindly to [the inevitable] periodic violations of their territory for our military/intelligence operations. That's when the Iranians move in to fill the void (to a greater degree than they already have after being invited to assist in pushing ISIS back) and transform Iraq in to the same kind of proxy that they've established elsewhere in the region. The Sunnis will be backed into a corner, and insurgency will persist indefinitely along with the increased Iranian influence. This is all assuming that the Iranians play it cool and have more foresight than we seem to have. No guarantee of that. If they go for a spectacular response then this changes and maybe we just embroil ourselves in another 20 years of nation building in the region. But I'm sure our administration considered these possibilities when they chose to strike and has a solid plan to prevent them...I'm sure of it.

  4. We regularly engage foreign fighters in Iraq. And we don't check their passports before going kinetic. He was in the wrong place as an enemy combatant, on a known battlefield that we have been fighting on for years. I hope for the sake of his family he had SGLI.

  5. The bros aren’t too fond of the Wg/cc either, to be frank.

  7. Who knows? Another key fact is that there was already a change of command scheduled for like next week because of this guy’s impending 1 yr deployment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Bottom line, he took the fall for a weather evac of T-6s gone wrong. T-6 wet crosswind limits were mistakenly waived so some T-6s could launch with winds out of limits (a dash-1 limit). Some close friends of mine were involved, so I’m not gonna say more about it publicly (and no I wasn’t personally involved). The real story is that the Wg/cc didn’t like the OG and was frankly looking for a way to get rid of him. This was the event I think they could officially pin on him to make it happen.

  10. I know of three people who got a phone call yesterday for an invite. (Myself not included unfortunately) You never know, could be doing more phone calls but I am currently just waiting for the “thanks for applying” e-mail and hoping to get some solid feedback to keep making stronger applications in the future. 11. Yup, also keeping Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea afloat to pique at us from time to time. We should find clients to antagonize them also and support with little restraint so long as they cause them trouble (Ukraine, Vietnam, KSA, etc...). Another article on the subject https://thefederalist.com/2020/01/04/killing-soleimani-was-necessary-and-shows-america-must-withdraw-from-iraq/ Decent and a short read, correctly repeats the refrain that another pointless US led conflict in the ME only benefits the Moscow-Beijing-Tehran axis of shit.

  12. I won’t argue that the Iranians didn’t have this coming. They absolutely did. But this was an escalation that may have started (escalated?) yet another open ended conflict in the Middle East. Are we prepared for that? What’s the end game here? I really hope this was part of a well thought out plan that ends with the minimum amount of force/blood/treasure required to accomplish American goals in the region. I fear that in reality this was a rash reaction that will lead to further US entrenchment in the region with no clear idea of what a “victory” actually looks like. Incidentally, isn’t that exactly the sort of conflict that the administration says we should be pulling out of?

  13. Just saying, one of those ghosted was a guest of President Obama in the Oval office, a policy change in the extreme.

  14. This is not an apples to apples comparison...SOCOM/CC isn’t the leader of an organization that routinely kills and maims foreign soldiers and civilians using terroristic tactics. If you lead an attack on a sovereign nations embassy, they’re going to be consequences...Unfortunately we’ve injected ourselves into the ME, and after this, getting out will be much more challenging.

  15. It took a long time and a lot of effort by some great people to start a U-2 WIC... but it finally happened. And the initial cadre was Patched Thursday, and graduated tonight. A very HUGE congrats to Jester, Posit and Gump. Leading the way for the Brotherhood, they are great reps for the U-2 weapons system. I was able to attend Thursday's festivities, and the O'Club was mobbed with U-2 folks... Intel, Mission Planners, 9RW Chief, and all of the Drivers. It really was an epic evening. Thanks to all involved for allowing the Old Guys to show up and be a part of it. Hail Dragons.

  16. Incompetence at best...at worse, indifference. We've already been brushed off with respect to the flight pay fiasco. We've been told it will be fixed when the new pay system rolls out in Jan 2021. So with that, I expect the answer to be that we'll get it back with our taxes. Honestly, unknown. The OG is taking this one on, so I haven't sent any flaming arrows towards finance. It has already been sent up the chain and guys are still being taxed at an extremely high rate and no TSP is being taken out, or that we'll have to do a CMS case. Some of the guys have just given up on them until this whole process gets unfucked. I mean, I appreciate the extra pay but it shouldn't be this difficult. These are for additional pay cards we didn't have before. As with most things in the military, the rollout has been a rusty coat hanger abortion. It pisses me off because it continues with the trend of making life harder on the part-timer. It's almost as if they're intentionally trying to make it harder for guys to be part time. But hey, they've made it such a PITA that I pretty much have to blow a pay card or two just to get paid. Lol...getting paid to get paid. Life is still pretty damn good in the ANG, but I'm seriously looking forward to the day I have 3 years time-in-grade.

  17. Sad, I hoped maybe the OG was booted due to upper management finally figuring out one of the many reasons pilots are bailing in droves is jackass management. The WG/CC is married to an airline pilot. She knows life is better on the outside world. I though it refreshing to see a tool get the boot. But, she may be a tool too. Sad.
