  1. Further, I can believe the fitness standards are dumb, while at the same time being livid that this person can take command while being so wildly out of standards. Big Blue has told us that PT tests are important. I've seen people denied PCS medals over a failed PT test four years ago. I've seen people denied the ability to apply for WIC over a failed PT test seven years in the past. And then we put someone who can't put a PT test in charge. I don't know, maybe it's my own salt coming out that I never did anything wrong, never failed a PT test, did all the PME, etc...and this person who has either failed, or will fail, their next PT test is fit to be a commander, while the Air Force is telling me I'm in the bottom 25% of my year group by passing me over for promotion. I'd bet my next bonus installment that she makes Lt Col out of this command slot.

  2. The hilarity here is that the same shitty 11F’s that are being complained about will be the ones who are shipped back to UPT after a 2 year touch and go in a fighter. From my little slice of the AF, my U-28 bros that went to 38’s (after ~2000 combat hours as evaluators) would all have ended up in fighters if not for the poor planning of being 2008 college graduates. But those guys are now not “good enough” to teach a guy how to fly tac and extended trail. I don’t get it.

  4. So for everyone saying there are ways to beat this, and how easy it is I’m curious. Are you saying a member should then be reinstated because they got off on a technicality? Maybe I’m misreading the trending comments, but I don’t want any idiot who will drive drunk in the AF. I don’t care if they beat it on a technicality. I would have zero mercy on a dude that hit my kid while DUI. A DUI that doesn’t result in an accident is just somebody being more lucky than they deserve. There is the whole “Integrity First” thing that we should all subscribe to. Again, If I’ve misread the situation, press. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  10. I applaud you for what you're attempting to do and hope you fulfill your goals. However. :D. You're insane if you go AD and resign from your position at a FAANG Company. Don't even consider it and block the AD recruiter's number. The opportunity cost for a 20 something to choose the military route is a fraction of what the cost to successful 36 year old with a lucrative and desirable career would be. Go Guard. I would suggest hanging on to your current career while enjoying the USERRA protections afforded to you while you serve. A Guard job can easily be turned into an full-time ADish career with you being significantly more in control of your life and having the ability later on to return to your career on your terms, or not at all. Or, if you find military service isn't exactly what you envisioned, you can remain part time. Serving is rewarding, but completely giving the reigns to the current AD leadership after you have already established a successful life for yourself is not. If you hate your job, that's different. But it sounds like your resume is strong enough to give you options far beyond what the average new AF AD officer has.

  11. I second @JustHangingOut there is nothing quick about this process. Specially if you are planning on going guard/reserve. Also, be prepare to be extremely persistent with Recruiters. "Trust, but verify" when dealing with with them. Most of the time, I was able to learn more about the hiring process or rushing by simply cold calling the chief pilot x or y wing/squadron... that's if you are interested in going Guard/Reserves. If your plan is to go AD, PM me and I can put in touch with my hooker friend.

  12. How much time is left on your ADSO? you will need to knock out a few things before you can make a quick turn around like that. Are you applying to Guard/Reserve squadrons or going AD?

  14. Big Blue doesn't have Warrant Officers... I am sure you probably knew that. However, had a fellow 47 bro that went Air Force AD about 5 years ago. He simply applied to the AD board as a prior enlisted and got picked up. Flys C-130s now. He did have to go thru OTS and graduated O1-E prior to going to UPT.

  16. YEAH... what @Seadogs said. Also while you are it at enlisting in the Army, be sure to do the following: Get a stripper pregnant that will force you to married her 3 days before deployment. Get a 2010 Fort Mustang at 21% interest. Run up all of your credit cards and spend a bunch of money of a worthless tattoo that will let everyone know your name, rank and unit.

  17. BRAC is 90% political and 10% logical to the needs of the Air Force. I would chose a unit whose culture you see yourself in and in a location you desire. Right now many units are upgrading the H model avionics, may go J one day or transition to another aircraft, there is no telling.

  18. Its not a technicality. If there is data that says you breath contains a higher PPM of alcohol follow a belch than obviously the test is not accurate since it is not supposed to be measuring your breath but your blood based on the concentration on your breath. If LE disregarded this and you didn't know, and then popped positive after only one drink when you knew you were fine, I'm sure you'd want the courts to throw out the incorrectly administered test. Same thing, if you are asked to give blood and the nurse used an alcohol wipe to sanitize the surface of your skin to withdrawal the blood, that is not a technicality, that is the improper administration of a test. The test data is now invalid. Look, I get it, you don't want anyone hitting your kids, but that doesn't trump a lot of people not wanting to go to jail and lose their career when they did nothing wrong.

  19. No one is body shaming. From what I am reading people are calling out people for what appears to be inability to meet professional required standards. And possibly because of being a woman some automatically get offended. Everyone wants equal treatment. We call out men who seem to be exceeding standards. Well even though the physical standards aren’t equal, when someone calls out someone else it isn’t body shaming or anti feminism. People who say it’s body shaming don’t understand there is such a thing as objective truth. Or don’t want there the be objective truth. Bottom line, said individual doesn’t look to be in professional standards.

  20. Not all deployments are created equal. Depending on your platform and whatever the current fight is, you may be deploying to a 1-star resort base or to a middle of no-where FOB. You may be employing daily or just burning holes in the sky waiting for something to happen. For your purposes, mission is far more important than time away from home.

  21. Yes. Ive seen a dude get pulled over and given a DUI for a 0.08 blown in a 0.08 allowed state. Upper management immediately gave this guy an Art 15. The DUI was thrown out in court. However, the Art 15 remained and he was separated during the great purge. Thats pretty darn good management right there

  23. Innocence, which by the way is until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a criminal court setting, is found by a fact-finder i.e. a judge or jury, not a casual bystander like yourself. If the law and court were so concise, there would be no reason to have superior appellate courts look at the verdict of cases, if petitioned. But it's not, and they do, because it's not concise. It's not a straw man argument. There are people like this guy who did illegal things to people, to show they did illegal things, to help convict them for something they never did and put them in jail for it and ruin their lives. The original idiot trial counsel in Navy SEAL Chief Gallagher was removed for illegally spying on the defense emails. A DUI is a DUI once that person is either convicted or pleads guilty of it. Not when people like you already judge from the cheap seats before knowing all the facts.

  24. There is a huge difference between “charged” and “convicted” of a DUI or anything else. Are you saying if someone was pulled over for DUI, went to jail for the night but was later acquitted for lack of evidence, faulty equipment or improper procedure, that you still consider it a crime? What about a pilot who does a flyby at 800’ instead of 1000’? He knowingly broke the “law”...so it’s a crime, not a mistake, right?
    1 point
  25. You’re damn right they should be “reinstated”. They are innocent until proven guilty. That’s how it works around here. A “technicality” may be blind ass luck or a poorly trained officer or whatever, but if the proof of guilt doesn’t meet the standard of law...that person is innocent. Period. “For the law holds, that it is better that ten guilty persons escape, than that one innocent suffer.”

  28. Most of you are splitting hairs. I’m not talking about legitimately innocent people. I’m talking about people who committed the crime, found a loophole, and walked because of it. The integrity about the system and the cops and everything else is a straw man argument. If the guy did it, this is a purely ethical question. Does he deserve to be free of consequences? I agree with you that the system has to be free of issues regarding integrity. To the question of a one mistake AF, no it shouldn’t be a one mistake AF. There is however a chasm of difference between a mistake and a crime. Just like there’s a massive difference between hitting a child while DUI and just DUI, but they’re both still crimes. I guess I’m harsh because while I’d be very lenient with legitimate mistakes that were unintended consequences, I will hammer a guy as hard as possible for a DUI. He absolutely can turn his life around, but not in my unit. That is a risk I’m not willing to take. You tell me, is a guy more likely to kill people if he ignores 12 hours bottle to throttle, or if he gets in his car and drives home through a neighborhood while DUI? We’d FEB a guy immediately for that, but you think they should be able to move up the ranks for doing it in a car? I know that is a harsh stance. I’m not like that with many things, but ~10K people die in drunk driving crashes a year. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  29. 100% until proven guilty. Whether the circumstances warrant administrative action is another story... but writing that story before the legal case settles is unfortunate. I’m not sure why we’re so spring loaded to fire/punish before the legal case is settled. If “we’re going to get all the facts out in trial/through due process” is not an acceptable answer to you or your boss, maybe you or your boss should spend a while thinking about your commitment to the constitution. There also may be times when relieving somebody of duties is in their best interest in order to focus on the legal battle, but a press release probably isn’t necessary in that case That said: There aren’t many more selfish decisions than drinking and driving.

  32. You can definitely make it, if you have the drive, can market yourself well, and a unit wants to help push the waiver on their end. I'm here at 37. What @N730 said, is right, though: if you don't want pilot very badly, it's a WHOLE LOT of work and, if you're not completely dedicated, the workload might deter you. And, 100% it is harder to do when you're older. I've got my wife and 1 year old kiddo here with me and juggling all of it is not easy; twice as hard if you're trying to compare yourself to kids in their early-mid 20s that are likely better at studying and don't have any other obligations that take study time. But, it's completely doable. I was insanely lucky/put in a whole lot of hustle to get from hired to UPT (means 2 months of OTS and, in my case, a month of SERE in there, too) in less than a year. That's very quick and most of the time it takes closer to 2 years; especially if you get picked up by a Guard unit. Their timeline is quite a bit longer than Reserves, it seems. Lastly, your Pilot/Nav scores are a bit on the low side. I had the same quant as yours, so they're not really gonna care about that (maybe break your chops a bit), but I had 89 Pilot and 91 Nav. You need that TBAS ASAP, too, and if you can get in the 80s or higher, you might be okay. All that said, time is not your friend and you need to start applying ASAP. Put together a packet, have folks on here look through it and offer input (I can try to take a look, too, but time is definitely not something I get much of these days in the thick of T6s), and start sending it out to units that have open hirings. Apply to every airframe you'd be willing to fly and be persistent. Fighters are probably too much of a long shot for you, but there might be some heavy units that'll give you a look. Bottom line is you never know until you try and you're never out until the last place tells you, "No." I still have quite a few moments where I laugh and can't believe I'm actually here. But, I put in a lot of work, marketed myself as best I could, and got lucky along the way. If I can, anyone can. So, get moving! Good luck!

  36. This thread is actually really kind of comical. On one hand, you have pointy nose dudes bitching about the lack of quality of UPT/IFF grads they are getting because the training pipeline is so badly undermanned, and then in the very same post, come up with this elitist BS about how other people don't have what it takes to train your guys. Like, okay, fine, the rest of us weren't exactly knocking down the door to come join your dumpster fire, but hey good luck with not having a midair with your shitty VR-trained UPT Next wingman that the last 3 training programs have been passing the buck on.

  37. Whatever did they do before the T-1s when everyone went 38s? Nothing you do in 38s is remotely tactical or relevant to the skills required to fly any tactical platform in combat. Pilot training is about teaching kids to land and build airmanship, skills relevant to any community. The only reason they split tracks was to extend the service life of the 38. That being said, I’m sure it is important to have your share of 11Bs and 11Fs in 38s to make sure you are getting guys ready for IFF / the B course but there is no reason not to have 11Ms considering the manning crisis.
