Funny how you can be inspired by a movie, work toward a goal through high school, college, get a commission, fly for almost 22 years, and retire before the sequel comes out.

So far the program is designed to not only create a new AFSC and MDC2 experts, its designed so that in the future the vast majority of GOs and C2 leadership will be 13Os (at some point) via one of several on-ramp timelines... which doesn't pass the sniff check as yet. This one still has some baking to do, and its going to take some strong advocacy to live in the future. If you're willing to step out and try something new, break new ground, and don't really care about glass ceilings, this is an option. IMHO, its a particularly good option to get some smarts and training that would otherwise take over 5 years to get by a conservative estimate (Operational level of war education + ASG level planning education + Doctrine/C2 education) through a number of selective courses and assignments. But the bumpersticker is still attached - new is different, different is odd, odd is non-essential, non-essential gets cut when the belts tighten - and you can bet the belts are going to tighten. Chuck.

Never give up hope. Keep your head down, do your work as best you can, and keep doing the right thing by those under your authority and influence (yes those are two different things). You can help those coming after you a LOT by going through what you’re going through. I say this from 2APZ to O-5. I PCS’d from where I got passed over, got a new SR who is worth his salt, and got a DP without even a full year in the seat. I’ve got a line number to O-5 now. Senior Raters know a good officer when they see one, and the current guidance is to promote good men/women. It’s all about attitude. Don’t give up, and definitely don’t draw your validation from the USAF’s bankrupt promotion system. You have a LOT more to offer. You’re not done yet. FF

This "new normal" of guilty-until-innocent-but-still-treated-guilty is in large part a result of politics becoming team sports, where winning is the desire, instead of compromise. I think... How many Republicans defended Al Franken when he was drummed out for nonsense? How many excuse Trump when he says things that are obviously false? Both sides are doing this because we've prioritized winning over the truth. I don't think it's a new phenomenon, but the internet, social media, and the 24 hour news cycle has made it worse. Each side is convinced the other is stacking the deck, so they take their wins wherever they can, even when it's disingenuous.
