  4. Do what you wish, but someday they’ll be a mission you may want to get into. That mission may require a lie detector test, then what?

  5. I know several people who disclosed something stupid like that on their paperwork. All were fine. I know a handful of people who lied about it and got in large amounts of trouble after commissioning (some 5+ years later). YMMV. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  6. Former C-141 and C-17 guy as well. 141s were like airline flying, point to point throwing in Air Refueling (AR) from time to time just to be challenging. Never airdrop as we were not a SOLL II unit, but still basic fun. C-17 currency painful but plenty of hand flying like the Herc. HUD was a necessary cheat, but dumping a heavy aircraft into a short strip and stopping her (lightweight) before the Thrust Reversers (TR’s) were out was a kick. She is all brakes (Bugatti). I never really enjoyed the max rapid descents with TR’s out, preferred the non TR rapid descents personally. Departing the field at well less than 3000ft, suck the gear and continuing to accelerate, then pull (playing Fighter dude, that’s are best try) was another kick for a true heavy. She turns on a dime for a big girl and makes you look good with all the bells and whistles. I will say, unless you're doing Air Evac at .78/.80 smooth, trucking around at AMC .74 was dismal at times in the jet world. Flying an airline fast jet now and restricted to .90 max over the North Atlantic Tracks or customer restrictions to save gas/$ is still a lot faster than the C-17 ever was, so I now enjoy taking off after them and landing an hour prior to their arrival or more with normally more crew to split the task. I will say I do miss those hand flying challenges, or sneaking into dark airspace from 30K+ feet and reminisce over the few double AR days. Long and tiring, but incredibly rewarding getting that burn victim back stateside or whatnot. Flying to shattered places around the world with relief supplies and Rescue personnel is extremely rewarding as well. Bottom line, you will have some fantastic memories in the heavy world (Herc included) flying with your best friends taking the party to wherever you go = priceless! Sounds like if your after flight hours the KC is the way to go, but you will get hired in this climate regardless if the commercial gig is what your after. I suspect the KC world would be easier to juggle both. You can save a fighter dude or one of us heavy haulers who need to get somewhere and I was always greatful for Exxon on time! Beers and cheers to all of you @$$ kicking gassers out there. One of you fellas had to toboggan with me to help me out, great ✊ respect! Note: This was Air Guard flying.

  9. The AF has a talent management problem because it continually refuses to distinguish between talents. Standby for everyone wears OCPs.

  10. I hear this is the exact phrase that 17S and 1B4s say at exercises when planners want to know their effects. Not that you should talk about it on this forum but I wouldn't be surprised if cyber suffers from overclassification.

  11. I work with a guy who’s father was killed because he was an interpreter for the Army in Afghanistan (from Kabul). He got an expedited temporary visa because the Taliban found out he was working for the Army and started calling his house and found his work number and threatening to kill him, his wife, and kid. Obviously if it’s not for nefarious reasons, I don’t blame those that defected knowing they could lose their lives for just interacting or being trained by Americans. He’s taking his citizenship test laster this year, just had another kid, and bought his first house. If there is someone that loves being in America, it’s him. Sometimes we just don’t realize how good we have it to be naturally born Americans. It takes hearing stories like that to make us realize that despite the internal turmoil that this country has, it’s still the greatest one on the planet.

  12. .... is an idiot. There. Fixed it. I’ve never had an engineer that wasn’t worth his weight in gold.

  14. If you enjoy watching other people talk about their planes from your €400 a night hotel room on a bed of per diem, the 709th at Dover is hurting for good dudes to fly the C-5. It’s all glass, modern (by Air Force standards) avionics, flys like a dream (I’m not making that up. It was nicer to hand fly than my current ride, the T-6.), and you have a flight engineer. Any pilot who hates on engineers must have had bad engineers, because all the ones I flew with had been working the C-5 for decades and were a huge source of knowledge anytime the plane shit the bed, which it does. It’s nice being able to just fly the airplane while someone else competent and qualified dealt with why the gear didn’t come down. Bottom line, it’s not tactical at all and is about as close to airline flying as the Air Force gets, but if that appeals to you, you enjoy a large flying crew, and you want to fly a celebrity everywhere and host mini air shows at every ramp you park on, do it!

  16. That's funny...I always look at the stuff that tries to explain what you actually did. Hmmm...always looking at the parts that "don't matter" (blonde, thin, firm boobs, thigh gap, rich, etc.). I really need to learn how to live. ~Bendy
