  2. The relevant change in the tax law was that miscellaneous unreimbursed employee expenses can no longer be itemized. In previous tax years, employees could use a Schedule A (where you itemize your mortgage, charitable contributions, etc) to also itemize unreimbursed expenses. This applied to most all employees with unreimbursed expenses like a traveling salesman for unreimbursed lodging. The expenses for Air Force folks were usually related to uniforms, and this is why Lt Snuffy would save all of his dry cleaning receipts. For 2018 going forward, employees can no longer itemize unreimbursed expenses on Schedule A. But Reservists who travel more than 100 miles from home to perform military duty can/should file Form 2106 for their unreimbursed expenses related to traveling. This Form existed before 2018, and there don't appear to be any major changes to the Form. Form 2106 is an "above the line" deduction that helps lower your AGI and can be used even if you do not itemize other expenses on a Schedule A.

  5. 2) Wg/CC will have to acknowledge in some way, even if its non-concur. My understanding is if it's "concur" up the chain then it stops at AFPC and is approved. If there are any "non- concurs" the SAF/PC board looks at it and makes a decision to deny, approve, or offer less time. Sent from my SM-G960U using Baseops Network mobile app

  6. Looks like Julian Assange has also been patiently waiting for GoT to resume this weekend with his impressive cosplay. Guessing the Ecuadorian embassy also failed to renew their HBO subscription. https://edition.cnn.com/2019/04/11/uk/julian-assange-arrested-gbr-intl/index.html

  8. 1. There is a section of the PC AFI that states the member should not be sent TDY while an application is pending. It says that it can be done, but it requires your CC to coordinate with MPF prior to sending you. Probably to sanity check the decision and ramifications of having to send a replacement if it got approved. 2. I was told the base separation authority is the Wing/CC, so you’d need an endorsement from at least the equivalent. Not sure if disapprovals extend the time to get an answer, the gouge I’ve gotten is less than 6 months doesn’t require SAF approval. That supposedly simplifies the routing and allows the head of the PC office to approve. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. I believe he's saying there has been a massive overall erosion of the quality of a Guard/Reserve career in the last 5 years. It will not get better. Older folks are seeing fewer good deals (Coronet Oak) and fewer opportunities to augment their paycheck. Increasing mission/currency/training/deployment requirements. Decreasing manning/funding. Every aspect the of job is increasing in complexity at exponential rate. What were once simple tasks are bureaucratic nightmares that depend on technology that doesn't work. That said, it is possible to Heisman a lot of BS. As a new guy, please enjoy the fact that you will get to fly. Be competent, current, and safe, but do not become overly invested in anything outside of manipulating the controls of an aircraft. It will not pay dividends. Spend your ambition and energy building a solid life/career outside the AF/ANG/AFR.

  10. The min engagement distance (for training) for the GAU-18 was 300m for this reason. Plus the baby-BRRRR of the mini-gun is so satisfying.

  11. Each unit is different...matt's is one perspective. The other perspective is visiting gives you and us an opportunity to interact and determine if this is worth going forward on (i.e. official interview). But to Matt's point, this visit should be accompanied by your resume/package (sts), because that absolutely matters and bad enough scores, GPA, etc. can absolutely tank your chances of an interview, no matter how good of a dude you may be in person.
