  1. If you guys read through the Green New Deal, you'd know that the pilot hiring wave is about to hit a brick wall, with furloughs all but inevitable. In an unrelated note, Ocasio-Cortez's campaign contributions were released and her largest donor was the Aircrew Crisis Task Force.

  2. Totally enjoying the screaming and cries from the DNC because a very electable centrist Democrat might run as an independent. The smartest thing democrats could do would be tell the fringe idiots like AOC to STFU and color and put Schultz on the ballot. He’d destroy any chance Trump had at holding an electoral advantage, but no they gotta find a way to win using the hardest method possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. You sign a waiver basically that you forfeit your retirement pay while in the ANG, but once you finished with your service your guard time adds onto your AD time ( plus promotion ) when you start receiving your retirement pay.

  4. On the FAIP commitment and early release/matching up with a spouse's MWS timeline: I was in a nearly identical situation. My spouse was due to finish her non-flying FTU and receive an assignment about 6mo prior to my FAIP commitment (3yrs from end of PIT) ending. I spoke with my Sq/CC, she called AFPC to see what MWS FTU courses were available, and I departed my FAIP assignment 5mo early. If your (or her) CC is willing to let you/her go and suffer the vacancy, it shouldn't be a problem. However, your/her CC also has the authority to deny that request and jack up your join spouse timeline.

  5. Lol right! But seriously, we've been converting our techs to AGR for quite some time. Very few pilots want tech anymore...even with the pay raises. It's tough to entice AD guys with techs jobs. It's also impossible for airline guys to come back to help unless it's some kind of mil status. In my squadon, the more AGRs the better. Now if we can just get the big bonus down to a year in the ANG.

  6. There is nothing that says a SR has to give a super P. All depends on the SR.

  7. Know? Officially released? I know nothing. But the rumor of that change officially dropping is at least two months old. AFRC will know no fury like the airline pilot scorned. This is going to greatly simplify the path forward for many Reserve pilots.

  9. Having just lost nearly everything in hurricane Michael... here’s a few tips for Florida gulf coast homeowners insurance (sidebar): - You are likely underinsured. Rebuilding a house is $150/Sq ft at a minimum. - You are definitely underinsured in additional structures. - Opt in for 50% law and ordinance coverage. The standard is 25% if you do nothing. This extra pot of money will save your ass in several situations. It’s cheap. - Get replacement cost coverage (not actual cash value) for your personal property. It’s a bit more expensive than the L&O bump up to 50%, but worth it. - Read the text of your actual policy...and keep up with year to year changes to it. Pay particular attention to named storm exclusions. You can get different underwriting, riders, separate policies, etc. to fill the holes you find. - When the disaster happens, and it will, step 1 is read your policy again in detail. Welcome to redneck paradise! Stay off my fishing spots.

  11. ^this. One time a WIC grad showed up looking to get checked out and didn’t know what the VFR sectional markings meant or anything about ctaf, class g etc. It’s worth a bit of study. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  12. That's awesome they got rid of the centerline thrust restriction. We really need more mil dudes into GA. There are synergies to both communities when we get out there on our own sometimes. And it will make you a better pilot. You'll never get to a point you think you know everything because when you do you will meet some yocal who has done something so outlandish you won't believe it exist until he shows you a YouTube video on his phone.
