  2. 5 years of flying on active duty and the first time I ever heard of blue 4 news was when I went to the safety program manager course. The system is broke, we as aircrew should probably be getting that briefed to us every month. Maybe I am biased, aviation safety is something I am passionate about, and learning from the mistakes of others to not repeat them myself is also something I feel passionate about. To much red tape/fear of recourse from leadership has made the safety process useles. To many of our aircrew have no clue about most of the fatal accidents the USAF has had in the last few years. Their are countless lessons to be learned and re learned.

  12. I’ve seen it several times, always a tough one. As I said in another post, my MAJOM/wing has been pretty good about getting us the info but many others are not. How many people know about the two U-28 incidents, the Aviano F-16, the 135 yaw mishap, MC-12 in Afghan, and the couple T-6 and 38 mishaps we had this year. That’s just what I can remember off the top of my head after a few to many beers. The Air Force as a flying organization needs to reevaluate how this info is distributed. I get ORM and safety first bs from leadership constantly, but as a organization we aren’t doing enough to get this info/lessons learned to the crews. Its only going to become more important as the crusty knowledgeable guys leave for greener pastures.

  13. I wouldn't hit publish on the app until you're ready for the hiring department to go through your app and judge if you're getting an invite. You don't know what algorithms they use for the computers to ping a person look at your app. You wouldn't want someone to throw you back to the bottom of the pile because you hit submit before it was really ready. That being said, I took two solid months filling the app out and sending out the recs. For the next two months, I pinged guys who didn't send the rec back and had every airline guy who had time to go through my app and find errors. You'd be shocked at what you'll miss. Regardless of the airline, start brushing up on your non-mil aviation GK. Delta's test is a ball crusher. United is way better, but you may still get asked that one random question that every regional guy knows that you never cared to learn because it didn't apply to you flying for Uncle Sam.

  14. I would disagree that a 365 buried in the middle made all the difference in getting you over the hump...congrats btw! Certainly it adds good ammo and can only help, but what I see are very solid strats and the highly important “if I had one more DP”. At the end of the day it always comes down to strats and push lines. Getting that push line when you didn’t get a DP is huge.

  19. Not true at UAL Actually the opposite, UAL holds by invitation only job fairs for military members to speed people through the process. Buddy of mine was also told during Indoc to please get through consolidation before dropping mil leave. Once consolidation was complete though, UAL ultimately doesn’t care if you took long term mil leave to possibly reach retirement. Sounds to me that UAL is playing the long-term game of banking as many pilots as possibly now so they have them once the mass retirement exodus begins.

  20. Not an advertisement. But read cockpit 2 cockpit. It will help you start. Ready set takeoff is a good resource once you get your resume together. I will say that 3-4 months is behind the timeline. You will be out of work for several months because of it unless you can stay with the military as a free agent. So save your money, prepare your stuff, and study your butt off.

  21. I took a look at the timeline for January's board; board date to CC calls was right at 5 weeks, public release at 6. I vote CC calls the week before Christmas (because presents) and public release the week after :D Unless I don't get picked up... then I vote no release ever...

  22. I am a Hand and passed over IPZ for Lt Col thanks to Pentagon generals who flat out said they couldn't give me a DP or high strat...because I was deployed. No joke. We had a 50% Hand promotion rate this year. I was on the command list as a major-select but was unmarried and was approached by the assignments team (non-rated) to see if I would volunteer since the two guys at the top of the non-vol list were good with families including one with a child in the Exceptional Family Member Program...or so they said. (I was nowhere on the list as I'd done a short tour 2 years before.) It fit my interests and goals at the time as long as it didn't damage my career. I was promised by the general in charge of my career field that he would take care of me for promotion and would seems me to a large squadron command after the program. Reality? I ended up sending my PRF to 4 different people. My civilian rater completely checked out because she was moving. Senior rater checked out because he was retiring and was polishing his resume. They left or items from my promotion packet and am meeting the SSB. One of my friends was a pilot, a wing exec and was a non-vol. She's now separated, went Palace Chase and is flying for the airlines. I'm polishing hip my resume and am thankfully in a career field that is also lucrative on the outside and am considering all options. Yes, they are non-volling top performers. Yes, it does kill your career (lost command, OPRs and strats). If you wasn't to get promoted: Rule #1: Don't take one for the USAF team. Rule #2: Refer to Rule #1. That being said, I freaking love the job. Yes, it's freaking dangerous, and I've had close calls the last month. You do really get to make an impact on combat ops by solving key issues impacting ANA and ANP participation on coalition ops. Would I do it again? I don't know. I've got some great memories and love the job and the NATO troops I'm deployed with...but it's also derailed my career. I was hoping to retire as an O-6 and now I'll be lucky if I ever make O-5...If I can tolerate the USAF another 5 years with job opportunities well into the six figures in my field on the outside, similar to the pilots on here. Don't do it. The USAF isn't taking care of their Hands. If we don't get a DP, we're screwed, and does anyone on here actually trust senior leaders in the USAF? Don't be a sucker. I was.

  23. Only just recently come in contact with some of these individuals...NOT impressed. I feel like they are individuals who either could not hack it in their communities or had the personality of a door stop. I'm judging from a rather small sample size I know but JeeeezUS. Cooter

  25. Because generally speaking, people who are not of your faith want to hear about your faith about as much as they want to be regaled by tales of the last time you clipped your toe nails. That in and of itself it probably not snapish; however, "I cant do that because I'm religious" and especially "i can't go out, i've got church in the morning" definitely is snapish.
