  1. Not 100% on this but i beleive the intent is if the interview doesn’t go well or other circumstances make the U-2 not a good fit, they will go back into the assignment pool for any CAF assignment. More to follow. Should be interesting, and a great opportunity for the right person. U-2 reservists (and T-38 CTP) to me has always seemed like a no brainer, but it’s been tabled for all the years we were sunset. The gears are turning now, i think it will happen eventually. Especially if we have any hope of retaining talent and experience in this current climate.

  2. So who did you vote for in the last election? Or does it not count when Hillary attacks all the women who say Billie attacked them?

  3. I got a little bored. Data for those considering a join spouse relationship: Of the 6.4yrs/2,352 days my wife and I have been married, 2.5yrs/909 days have been apart. That's an average of 4.7mo/141 days per year physically separated by TDY, PCS, or deployment. The average duration of separation is 37 days, including the occasional 1-2 day jet-swap TDYs. We've had one PCS separation that left an 11mo gap, with the rest stationed together. Days apart does not consider leave taken to visit each other while separated via PCS. We also have jobs that are highly compatible, both ops-focused and relatively easy to station together. If we were committed to different MWS's or didn't have today's friendly AF policy directing join spouse assignments, it would be far worse. The 1-3wk TDYs aren't bad. It's enough time for the spouse still home to work on house projects, hog all the time with the kiddos, and then appreciate the return of the TDY spouse. Deployments longer than a couple months suck; 5-6mo are standard in our jobs. Thankfully, we've had CC's on our side for the couple times we've asked for a break. One was simultaneous deployments, leaving our 1yr old with family. The other was staggered deployments, with only 5wks together over the course of 2yrs. CC involvement in both cases helped shift things around, and both worked out well for our family. Things that helped make the separations easier: 1. Set expectations low. Even if it's an easy TDY, walk into each one as though you won't have time to talk until you're both home. Any contact is then a pleasant surprise. 2. Block off leave and family time for after the TDY/deployment well in advance. Keep it sacred. 3. If the AF is paying you to go to Nellis, find a reliable babysitter (i.e. grandparents) for the kiddos and fly the wife out there for one of the weekends. Second honeymoon. 4. Don't overcommit on unnecessary projects. You're both making a decent paycheck, so don't go full dad mode and install a deck by yourself at the expense of relaxing with the family. Pay for the labor on tasks that you don't inherently enjoy, and consider it an investment in mitigating the stress of future time apart. 5. Enjoy the crap out of the times you get the kiddos to yourself. It's a lot of work on top of your day job, but good grief it's fun. 6. Your Family Care Plan forces this, but it's a good idea regardless: Have 2-3 close friends in the local area that you trust to pick up your kids and care for them overnight. I had to ask for help a couple times that a night sortie was unavoidable. Work with DOS to ensure you have as much of a nuggets' up as possible on sorties that will impact your ability to pick up kids from daycare.

  4. T-68 or T-70 because T-69 would be offensive.

  5. I actually was planning to visit in October too! I also have similar scores, and it's definitely not a long shot if you get along with them well. I spoke to a guy there about the group, and I'd advise against the bottle of bourbon. I've only visited one unit so far, Oklahoma, and I only was able to visit them for a day. I think typically people visit for the weekend, so just plan on the weekend! PM me if you want to coordinate showing up at the same time/car pooling or whatever. I'll probably be getting in Thursday night late, as I'm coming from STL. First time visiting is always nerve wrecking haha, but it's really not as nerve wrecking as it seems. At least from my experience with Oklahoma everyone was really friendly.

  6. I wouldn’t say AFPC hates.....think of it as a one sided and long lasting relationship

  7. Like so many things timing is huge. They may tell you it’s impossible and 12-18 months later it’s a different story. Stick to your guns, fight for it, and get your CC on your side. I’ve seen plenty of folks do it over the years

  8. General PSA... The number of sh!tty cover letters and resumes I've seen is ridiculous. If you're sending a resume, it should include a cover letter. Research what makes a good cover letter. Double check the grammar and spelling. Everyone knows you've wanted to fly a jet since you were little or it would be the best job ever. The cover letter should summarize your qualifications and highlight what will set you apart from others, or suggest why you will succeed in the pipeline. Get the unit right. Dont confuse the SQ # with the Wing #. Do some research on the job you're applying to. You can easily include test scores, miscellaneous training, flying times into your letter (if thats all you're sending). For resumes, again, attention to detail. Action/Impact/Result format works well. Dont mix tenses. Make it clean and organized. Objective/Career Experience/Education/Security clearance/flight experience/skills/awards/etc. I've seen so many people just take the sample cover letter that units post and slightly modify it... give me a break. From a majority of what I've seen.. if it was for a corporate job, I wouldn't hire them. Disorganized, no attention to detail, looks lazy. You're applying for the best job in the world, make it look like it.

  9. Love watching all social media reactions on Kavanaugh. The most satisfying are the ladies talking about white male privilege interspersed with their discussion of how spinning classes and shopping will take their minds off this horrible injustice while they are supported financially by their white male husbands out doing jobs. 10. Is this serious? I cant burn a goddamn flightplan to a data card because of AF Comm, and just this week I lost access to our primary mission planning website with no easy workaround. At work today after waiting 30 minutes for GTIMs to load unsuccessfully someone said we should contract our comm out to the Chinese since they are in every system we have anyway. Chances are they would be more competent in keeping things running and give us a fighting chance against the Russians.

  11. I think VR is going to be fantastic for a lot of training. It's not going to take 15 years, and not with the fire that Cyber and pilot production has. We have internal AF developers that can kick down doors and get this shit done. FFS the last 24 AF/CC was a Viper driver and is now ACC/CV... Win10 migrations was having significant changes to the network every week. They got done because CSAF, AFSPC and 24 AF CC stood behind it. With SECAF, CSAF, AETC CC (and ACC/CC) behind it this could work the same. The "no" monkey's are dying out or being killed. We've still got some POS Col's/Lt Col's, but they're self-identifying and removing themselves for areas of resistance. The GS/SES's on the other hand...well...look at this OBOGS issue, we're stuck with these old fuckers. As a Cyber dude I know all about being behind the tech curve. I worked for the past 2 years watching AFNET burn down while we shoveled cash to some GO's pet project of cloud email (you're welcome for your 99 GB email, sorry about not being able to login). Before that was 18 years of "why the hell do we have to maintain base infrastructure with end of year funds?" I shouldn't get a call from some FAIP in Austin on Thursday about how to hook VR up to AFNET for updates/google maps access/whatever and he needs a solution by Friday. He's not talked to his Comm Sq or his A6. He's not even sure who's providing his current internet connection, or how it runs. His OG/CC sent him there TDY with the mandate to "get it to work." I hope that bro got more assistance from my AETC/A6 POCs, he'd never spoken to them about the project. That phone call sucked--that's a fucking foul on Ops. If you don't think I know what I'm talking about, read through my post history and I'd advise you to feel free to stay in your lane and stfu. Apologies for the thread derail, back to OBOGS.

  12. Based on the color of those trails, it looks like they were spraying the mass sterilization compound that day. Fine choice.
