  4. Have worn both; green bag for life. Two-piece is better for hot & sandy locales and taking a shiite, but looking cool is approx. 69% of the job from what I was told the day I joined and the bag looks cooler. The simplest minds sometimes know best...show up at your kid's elementary school in multicams and they'll all say, "Look at that Army man!" Show up in a bag and it's, "Look at that pilot!" Luckily I'm in the Guard now where basically the only thing that's truly mandatory is showing up. Well, I mean you gotta show up most of the time at least...šŸ˜Ž Edit to add: +1 to Star Wars being "A long time ago..." It's literally the first thing you ever learned about the entire franchise.

  8. Reference "Star Wars": it is set in the future. And that future has flightsuits. This shouldn't be too hard of a concept to grasp. The flightsuit will never go away. Much like the U-2. They can try all they want to kill it... but it just won't happen. Plus... chicks dig a 40 inch zipper. p.s. Don't get me started on the demise of deep v-neck T-shirts under the flight suit. Crew neck T-shirts are for guys that eat too much soy and can't grow hair on their chest.

  11. If wearing the bag is a make/break thing you may have some serious life prioritization issues

  12. Just PCSd to a certain northern base with a huge amount of cops...why oh why is the patch setup on the OCP backward from the bag? I.e wing patch on the right shoulder and squadron on the left. Weird...

  13. I know some ANG units that are completely swapping it out by 2020. Nothing official on the active duty side though. They only gave them an option between the OCP and A2CU (Army Aircrew Combat Uniform)...... Seriously I'm not going to wear something that says Army in it...yuck. Honestly, one of the biggest selling points for me was the privilege to wear the flightsuit. If they really do take it away, I would rather just go fly for an airline. Thanks for taking away that pride Air Force...

  15. I heard similar numbers but tied to years of aviation service. Similar to current flight pay. Not sure how gate months or non flying assignments might play in.

  16. That was pretty kick ass. I got to meet Dave Groark years ago in Mesquite Texas, while waiting for a student. He was nice enough to give me the fifty cent tour of his T-6. I saw his name painted on the side. "Dave Groark? I was just re-reading my copy of Going Downtown the other day! You wouldn't happen to be that Captain Dave Groark from the 355th TAC fighter wing, now would you? He smiled and admitted he was. I asked him if Jack Broughton was the exceptional leader he appeared to be. Not really a legit question, the record speaks for itself. "I'd follow him straight to hell today if he asked me." Was the reply. Those dudes are BAMFs

  21. But it was in a galaxy far, far away, so the flightsuit is obviously the "universally" superior option. Much like black boots were.

  23. I'll never wear OCP's. The bag has too much history. Hopefully this doesn't happen before I retire. WTF are the Space and Missiles folks gonna do without a bag?!?

  24. Sleeve rolling is allowed now though..

  25. For me, the bag is one of the things I love about my job. Iā€™ll be pissed if the AF takes that too. Iā€™m not a shoe clerk or some Army dumbass. Iā€™m a pilot. And I want to look like one, even if the AF riddles me with a bunch of nonner BS.

  26. Agreed. I don't want to look like every other joe schmoe in the AOR. I'll keep rocking the tans until I retire, before the mandatory wear date. em.

  30. This... failed one as a young Captain because the FAC civilian discounted 10 push-ups and I had a bad run time. At the time the wife just birthed a set of twins and I was on 4 hours of sleep a night and yup I hadnā€™t hit the gym in a solid three months because she was on bed rest the two months prior to the blessed day. Nobody gave a shat about that but hereā€™s the rub. When I was fortunate enough to command MX ops at Cannon and had an Airman butting up against a PT due date with some life events that had kept them from being prepared I happily filled out the ole commanders exemption and told them to keep in touch if they felt they couldnā€™t pass after the exemption expired. Dialogue with me, but if life is keeping you from PTing there is probably some other causal factor outside of fitness to blame. To this day every time I have to take a PT test it takes me several attempts before I nut up and go take it. And no itā€™s not because I struggle. Iā€™ve scored 83-85 consistently along with a couple of 90s. I have no similar problem with I/Q or MSN check rides. My point in this long rambling post is that commanders have been empowered ever since they have had the call to sign a ccs exemption. If captain x has gained 20 pounds and canā€™t pass the test there might be reasons other than physical that are causing these issues. Maybe some other reason... like an impending divorce, alcohol abuse, anxiety disorder or some other traumatic event. Sign the damn exemption, give your airmen the time to deal with life and if after an appropriate amount of time they canā€™t perform the person is lazy or unfit... you are on g series orders for a reason.

  32. OCP is the pattern. ACU is Airman Combat Uniform. A2CU is Airman Aircrew Combat Uniform.

  33. Post your PRF. Weā€™d all be happy to give our thoughts. And Iā€™ll likely steal a couple of lines in a couple of years because no one in the Guard seems to fact-check this shit.

  36. Iā€™m proud to wear a comfortable uniform. Also donā€™t need a zipper suit or a leather jacket for the world to know Iā€™m a pilot. Would rather live in obscurity anyway. Flying cargo has greatly increased my antisocial tendencies. Who gives a shit? The OCPs rock for hot wx ops, also known as EVERY current deployed location.

  38. I'd bet they're hiring so many because they're anticipating a bunch to wash out. I could only imagine the amount of oversight that project must have. It's hard enough for the avarage guard guy to prove he's "worthy" of a fighter. Let alone a 35.

  39. Itā€™s 101 degrees and 30 knot winds outside right now present location. Iā€™m damn glad Iā€™m able to take off my top. I also have an option to wear a sweet ass fire retardant combat shirt that breathes. The bag will always have a place in my heart, but Iā€™m digging the improved QoL associated with the two-piece. I equate to loving a sport bike but sitting on a Harley for the first time. Trust me when I say you wonā€™t look back. Also, for the ejection seat argument, how hard is it to get suspenders or some other tech solution to enable the swap? And donā€™t fast pants do most of the work retaining the bottom part of the garment anyway?
