  2. ENJJPT made me a navigator. Avoid like the plague. YMMV.

  3. We are almost getting to the point where the 09 guys will have to re-write PRFs for the December board since they haven’t been selected for promotion yet...AGAIN! Some transparency would be nice, I mean if they hope to retain anyone.

  4. My bad. I thought the banner I saw on the Portal yesterday included Maj as well. Must have mis-read it.

  5. Only downvoting a post that just says "This!", as one might find on a 15-year-old girl's Twitter account. The original post stating that it'd be good to hear which senator redlined someone's BTZ to O-5 is spot on. Not sure if there's a way to track specific actions, but all current promotion lists with the senate are here:: Lists in committee: https://www.senate.gov/legislative/nom_cmten.htm Lists confirmed: https://www.senate.gov/legislative/noms_confn.htm

  6. You just described what several AFSOC and ACC assets do during the current fight...so...good luck. Go ENJJPT - Flying 38s was fun, you still have a decent array of options for assignments, and Wichita Falls seems to be the best UPT base out of all of them (location-wise and the local town is better than the other options). I say all this as a guy who didn't go there. Lastly, its fine to think about what you think you want to fly, but keep an open mind. Talk to your IPs as you go through UPT - dismiss those who tell you "the other guys" are assholes, suck, mission is lame, etc...they have no idea what they're talking about if they never flew it. If you have a bunch of non-fighter IPs, seek out fighter guys for perspective. Do the opposite as well. You might stay steadfast on the AFSOC idea, but you may also surprise yourself at what you end up putting on a dream sheet 2 years from now.

  7. Go to ENJJPT for the aforementioned reasons of being universally assignable in a T-38. Not to shoot holes in your plan, but why do you want AFSOC? The espirit de corps of SOF? The reason I ask is because the 4 AFSOC assets are very different in their missions. I always tell guys to pick based on mission. If you want to haul trash and refuel helos, go MC-130. If you want to shoot a lot of bad guys and have a stroke herding cats, go AC-130. If you want to be viewed as an annoyance to leadership and loved by your user, go U-28. If you want to sit around, maintenance cancel, and get worshipped, go CV-22. TL;DR: Pick based on mission, not MAJCOM.

  8. Why would you downvote this Waingro? If this story of a senator doing harm to a great Officers career because of a personal vendetta, this needs to be out there. *caveat* I know nothing other than several people saying this guy is a great dude and a senator screwed him. He may be a huge POS for all I know. But as a tax payer, if someone that’s a talented Officer is being stymied and weakening the AF as a result, that’s corruption and collusion and I want to know about it.

  9. So now June 5 is the big day? Duck, I don't know you, but I haven't given this much of a shit about someone's career since my days of 5 minute e-mail refreshes during the 2014 VSP. I've said it before, but every time I come on here and see this thread at the top, I check it hoping for some good news for you, brother. Keep up the good fight.

  11. I got a joke for ya. CY17D Majors board release date. In all seriousness, something is going on. I’ve never seen a board delayed this bad with ZERO explanation from our Senior Overlords.

  12. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of the AF splitting a board after it met.

  13. Thanks! (sent via brief word vice reaction emoticon) I agree with Danger's caveat. Somebody who knows details of the situation would be justified contacting media.

  14. I actually did do two years USNR. All valid points and hence why I’m now ANG.

  15. I grew out of the mindset that you have well before I even enlisted in the Air Force, let alone left my base to come to USAFA. I'm not interested in the relationships you're talking about but I appreciate the tips. I am focused on putting myself in a good position to have the career and life that I want with a wife and kids one day. This isn't a 4 year party for me. I enjoy my time here but I make sacrifices each day knowing that it will one day be worth it.

  17. Skeptical about any of this. There's basically two Air Forces, the operation itself, and the bureacracy that exists to perpetuate itself first (and support the operation second). I can't imagine the bureacracy willingly giving up even a tiny slice of power in favor of improving the operation. I mean, the operation is literally in danger of failing due to a labor shortage because the bureaucracy is that powerful and unwilling to change. No way this plan sticks.

  18. A large number of the SEALs I've met, worked with, and had working for me were raging pricks. Looking at the video and having close ties to that mission, it is very clear we left Chapman alive on the battlefield. The audacity of these asshats to deny the plain as day evidence then denigrate a brave fucking hero who never quit and gave his last full measure...well...FUCK THEM.

  20. Yeah, it was a real rocket (engine thrust - about 18k, airframe fueled weight - about 17k with a pattern ride fuel load) and the first ride put you on your back so fast that you didn't really grasp it. The trick was to get it going straight up from standing start to vertical right over the middle of the runway (about 3000 ft from brake release to accelerating vertically), then be able to control it so you recovered without winding up on your back at low airspeed and lose it inverted. You could actually accelerate vertcally until you reached max limit airspeed, and even farther if you wanted to tear the wings off! However, the scariest part of that first ride was when the IP decided to go look at some rental property that he wanted to buy...suddenly there we were about 15 miles SE of D-M at about 100 ft in the -CT hopping over tree lines and wires while he tried to find the apartments. I was "concerned" to say the least, but he didn't seem to think it was a big deal. We went over some trees and pushed back down and wound up staring eye-to-eye with a guy in a big tractor on the rising terrain. We pulled up and he bailed out the side. I couldn't believe it. There was a slightly different attitude among some of those old guys in the 60s and early 70s! Luckily, I flew my next rides with Hector and it was a bit more sane, and we never heard about it from anybody (police, FAA, newspapers, etc.).

  21. Do what you can to get a true picture of what the MC-130 does if you're going vector hard towards it. In no way am I trying to steer you way from it, but my impression of what the MC-130H did when I was in your position was nothing but terrain following low level, threat penetration, high speed airdrop of clandestine forces, and that seemed pretty cool to me. Turns out, although those may be capabilities, they're rarely exercised and 95% of the time the MCs aren't doing anything a slick -130 doesn't do (excluding HAR/TAR as my impression is the crews don't consider it especially enjoyable). There's nothing wrong with "slick missions", but it may not be what you expect from the MCs. I had a strong desire to end up in MCs initially, but by dumb luck ended up elsewhere in AFSOC and wouldn't have taken an offer to cross-train into MCs after I had seen their reality from up close. Again, not to discourage you. If that's what you want, go for it. Just do what you can to be sure you understand what you're working towards.
