The first thing I did was remove all that velco from the pockets. I probably removed more from other areas. Overall, for a hot, dirty place, the 2-piece worked well. As for boots, at the time greenies were mandatory, but after a few weeks of desert dust and mud, they were semi-permanently tan. If you come to different conclusions regarding the information we've been provided then you are likely not reading news, but rather sensationalized "entertainment" or "fake news" as they say. I turn 29 in July. Unfortunately I was a bit late in the game deciding I wanted to fly for the Air Force, and by the time I did, it took me ages to actually correspond with an officer recruiter (like almost a year). I finally managed to get in touch with one late last year who told me there was no chance for me because of my age and pulled the plug on submitting me to the April board because apparently I'm officially in waiver territory. I've been told by a lot of people in the Air Force that it can be done, but the recruiter told me they're all wrong. However, turns out I've got until my birthday to make something work out with the Air National Guard. So far I've applied for one UPT slot with the ANG, and I wasn't selected for an interview. I'm trying to spam applications right now but there aren't a whole lot out there that I can apply to before my birthday that I've come across so far. I've also been speaking with an enlisted recruiter for an airlift squadron. Apparently basically all the pilots in their squadron came from enlisted first and were selected internally for UPT, including some with waivers, however I'm a bit wary of going this route at my age. I scored 99 on the ASVAB and could potentially work any job I want that's close to the pilots, but it seems like a pretty big risk to potentially be locked in as an enlisted airman without any guarantees. Especially since if I want I can still just become an Active Duty officer if flying isn't in the cards anyway. However, I really really really want flying to be in the cards. Stuff about me: * BA in Anthropology and Communication Design, GPA 3.41. * AFOQT Scores: 93 Pilot, 98 Navigator, 76 Academic, 98 Verbal, 44 Quantitative * 84 PCSM with 27 flight hours. Can bump to 88 with 14 more hours. * LORs from a fire engine captain I fought wildfire with who is former navy, my flight instructor, a high school teacher, a pastor, and a supervisor. * Prefer to be a fighter pilot but seriously not picky. So what are my chances? Is there still any hope for flying Active Duty? How likely am I to lock something down with the National Guard? Is going enlisted in the ANG first and hoping to get picked up for UPT internally the worst idea ever? If it turns out to be, can I join Active Duty as an officer before my contract is up? And if I choose to enlist but get picked up by a unit before my ship date, am I stuck? Furthermore, while lurking I've seen a few people mention unsponsored boards but I'm a bit unclear on what they are and how to apply to them. Is that just a Reserve thing or does Active Duty do it as well? Thanks everyone. EDIT: Just found out last night my hearing and depth perception aren't so good. For that breadth of experience they want. But yes changing airframes is cool but you need to go back to where you started so you can command there. So far in my time I’ve had 2 CC’s who where Phoenix guys, one was a herk guy first and he was a good commander from my point of view who loved the mission and knew what it was about. While the other was a tanker guy who came in and learned it midway through and wasn’t bad. But now he is back in the tanker world. I’ve had others who came into it from a white jet first and did fine in the mission but they left things to be desired on the command side. But does all the experience make them better who knows.

I think you're missing the part where these women were already in treatment for things like rape and sexual assault. I wouldn't call their judgement regarding the person who was supposed to make them whole again "impartial". It's the same reason Larry Nassar was able to get away with it for so long. People invest a certain level of confidence in their doctors to know what they are doing and to have the patient's best interests at heart.

Nav's have been part of the C-130 community longer than the C-130J has been around. I'm sure he'll "figure it out" how to run a Wing that has an aircraft that got rid of his crew position, which really doesn't have anything to do with running a Wing since he's there for complete leadership.

There’s no way to know unless you are the recruiter. Headquarters updates forms periodically and if you filled out a form on 01/01/01 and they come out with an updated version on 01/02/01 your original is out of date. I would suggest you just ask your recruiter to double check you have filled out the most recent version of each form prior to submitting to NGB.

Stitch, sounds like the young man in question should dump the current wife and find a more attractive one that supports his dreams of living dangerously. Alternatively, keep current wife and allow her to maintain the fiction that he makes only 650$ a month. It’s all technique. Good luck!

@Champ Kind I honestly think we're starting to swing back the other way from the "everyone's a warfighter" nonsense that's been crammed down our throats. I think/hope these changes on the E-side with EPRs & PME are precursors to getting us back on track looking at mission/ops fulltime. I also think this uniform change is part of that. A change that makes sense for the majority of the force, saves us money, gives us something better and will force us to distinguish out loud that we're Airmen, not soldiers. I also think they're not going to have you zipper-suited-sun-gods not be distinguishable in your 2-piece. You'll get some flair, or perhaps scarves will come back, or silver pipping around the collar...who knows.

#4 of how many nominees? On my second look, I was #2/7 nominee with some good-to-great wing strats and that landed me on the alternate list. I ended up getting bumped up to the primary list recently and declined it since I don't want to leave in the middle of my Joint Tour. There is no prejudice for declining....just make sure you have it done in correspondence prior to your O-5 IPZ board. - The O-5 Central Promotion Board will not know whether you declined IDE in-residence or not. They will only know whether you are complete or incomplete. Be complete....whether you want to go in-res or not....that is up to you knowing full well, in this crazy system we use for officer command selection and promotion to O-6, in-res graduates do enjoy a marked advantage in these areas.

Just got back from the AOR and It's already a uniform bonanza out there. Between ABUs, OCPs, Army OCPs, OCP Flight Suits, Normal Tan Flight Suits....and the best part is no one seemed to give a shit what you were wearing, which was refreshing.

It sounds like you're looking for virtuous opportunities where none exist. This isn't a loophole. The state government of Texas has decided that people who have the aforementioned medals do not pay various state taxes and fees. Do you ask the cashier at the grocery store to charge you sales tax on produce? Do you stay out of the carpool lane with three passengers because you have enough time to just sit in traffic? Do you calculate your income taxes using only the top bracket because you make enough and can afford it? There's a huge difference between using a benefit as intended (free registration for military medal recipients) and taking advantage of a program that was not designed with our unique circumstances in mind (getting food stamps because your entire income was tax-free from combat zones). If you're feeling generous, take the money you save on license fees and donate it to a good charity. The money will be used far more efficiently to benefit people on a local level.

Spot on. I had a candidate for political office knock on my front door the other day and ask my what my concerns were. When I told him that the US public and elected officials had lost accountability of its military and almost entirely ceded control to the President (and largely, the generals) he looked at me like I had just stepped off a UFO. It was as if he wanted to say "How dare you question what our military is doing? Every man and woman who wears the uniform is a hero, and every mission he does is just and right and holy and in keeping with the best traditions this country has to offer!" Then I asked him, politely, if he could tell me some of the countries in which we had troops that were actively involved in armed conflicts. He mentioned Afghanistan, struggled to find any additional countries he could name, and began stuttering. In his mind I could see the Ma, Apple Pie, and American Flag T-Shirts give way to an overwhelming sense of embarrassment that he, a candidate for public office, had no clue what our military was doing. The fake hero worship that we have all encountered is the US public's apology for the abdication of their civic duties and not actually giving a shit what their military is up to. The pilot shortage and likely coming shortage of the other branches will probably fix this long term - people will stop volunteering for the military and/or get out when they realize there's no coherent strategy in the conflicts we are engaged in, but the disconnect is a major problem.
