  1. USAF may be screwed, but damn do they make some good-looking powerpoint decks!

  2. Gen Goldfien, You’re doing a great job. You understand what’s important and have the most combat street cred of any CSAF in the last 20 years. That said, if you let combat capability worth $Billions walk out the door to save $300m annually in bonus money, you’ll destroy our Air Force. None of these slides talk about the cost of a $100k bonus (a pittance) vs the exponentially increased costs of continual experienced pilot backfill production. The bottom line - if you don’t pay us more, you will continue to spend $Billions to solve the airlines’ pilot production problems. You’re making them money. Most of us see staying in the Air Force as the equivalent of paying $Millions in opportunity costs to continue serving. It’s hard to look at the wife and kids and tell them that we’re forgoing all that money and QOL to keep going on adventures. Army vets in Congress pushing back? Joint Staff complaining? They don’t understand the problem. Tell it like it is. Sincerely, A 2x MWS IP

  6. I'm sure it'll attract the best kind of Mil IP: former CC's who've been blacklisted from the majors by the former people they shit on during their career.

  7. It’s called a prenuptial. And let’s all divulge how to hide money on a public Internet forum.

  8. Just remember, we have enough pilots to fly F-22’s to bomb poppy processing huts in Afghanistan....this crisis is a crisis on paper and meeting numbers set on what we theoretically need to theoretically fight a theoretical war. Once they are unable to send people to drill holes in the sky for 6 months over the desert I’ll worry slightly...til then, helluva a show.

  9. 1) Prenup 2) Have your wealth established and protected before the marriage. 3) Prenup 4) Prepare to spend a small fortune defending yourself in court despite 1-3. If you have the poor taste to enter family court with the wrong plumbing/DNA, expect to pay the price. Don't stick your dick in crazy. If it F, F, or F's, its cheaper to rent. 40 year old, experienced you is a far better judge of character than 25 year old, inexperienced you; getting married in your 20's is a sucker bet. Rev Lawrence Shannon speaks the truth, and it's an ugly truth.

  10. I would wait to see what the numbers for next year are. Those 12/13Us are prior navs/abms that we’re part of the pilot program for 18x career field, and the first lot of the 18 program we’re prior service types. But I could be wrong, I’m in a rather specialized corner of the RPA enterprise that has a lot of high paying contracting jobs. But hopefuly good news for those of us trying to get back to the cockpit.

  11. When they cancel the light attack idea, the buzz phrase they’ll use will be “we need capabilities to win the next war, not the last one.” Even though we’ll be still fighting the last one when the next war kicks off.

  14. Bump https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/13/world/europe/russia-syria-dead.html I really don't see how this can end well... what's our desired end state? Why are we still there? Just hedging against Iranian/Russian hegemony in the Middle East?

  16. Yes. Publish now and don’t forget to factor in terminal leave.

  17. I would also plan and budget for at least 12 months from hitting publish on a 90% app to getting your first (meager) paycheck.

  18. Post now. I believe most airlines like to see apps updated frequently. Even if you aren't currently, and may not be available for a while, it looks good to keep it in queue with updates at regular intervals to show interest. That's just my suggestion, though.

  19. Applied to 50 boards and did 7 interviews before I got picked up. Continue to press.

  20. Duck, I'd release them now with your anticipated separation date; it doesn't hurt anything. If you find out you'll be getting out sooner, bump up your availability, like you said. Having them in the queue has no negative impact from what I've seen; it might even help, if there are items you need to correct on the app. Good luck.

  21. Yep, I was getting out. Airline hiring boom or not. Once I clearly realized that lots of guys dumber and lazier than me managed to buy nice houses and feed their families just fine, my AD days were numbered.

  23. yup, so-called D course at PIT. It's not just for non-T38 priors, TPS heavy bound guys and initial qual only topoffs (RPA support T38 drivers at Edwards) also get an spin up. It sucks a lot for the never 38 at UPT, unless that dude happened to have some A model time in some CTP program, at which point it's a distinction without difference. Cold turkey D-course to IFF? The struggle bus rate is high on that one. These days I consider that squarely in the personal favor/legacy case, for a unit to spend the money to send you to T-38 topoff and IFF to wingman as a senior Capt/junior Major. AFRC has deeper pockets so presumably it wouldn't be as noticeable on the money fund (school tours are central funded by the MAJCOM), though it would still fall in the PFA bucket. A guard unit would stand more to lose financially, considering the high washout rate of such a stunt. I will say though, today is probably the best time to pull that, as IFF is pretty hamburger helper these days with this whole pilot shortage canard. Back in 04- 07? Crush city.

  24. The Air Force may have some applicably similar data on that from sticking pilots at Cannon and Holloman.

  26. *sorry Meant to quote RTB that you quoted SS I find the need for doctors at Cannon entertaining. We have the worst manned med group I’ve ever seen. Anything more than the sniffles or a sprained finger you have to make the hour and half drive to LBB. Child appointments take at least 2 weeks, same for women’s health. Dentist will only do a cleaning if your are doing a deployment outprocessing, no eye doctor for 6 months at least (there might be one now, I’ve been deployed a bit now). The regular doctor for the minions was just as backed up, week+ wait if something was wrong. Only office that was even close to reasonably manned was flight med. Wonder why? Maybe we do need to take care of the pilots?
