  1. Cel nav isn't a worthwhile skill IMO as it's been made obsolete by laser ring gyro INS. Fielded INS in USAF aircraft have low enough drift rates that learning cel nav isn't necessary especially if you have a decent radar to update the INS with a fix.

  3. Bases seem to be randomly assigned apart from ENJJPT which is boarded if I recall correctly. That being said, I've heard of dudes getting assigned a base they didn't want and then finding someone else who had the base they wanted while the other person wanted their base, so they emailed AFPC with their names and desire to do a one for one switch and the request was accommodated. Not sure if that's still a thing

  4. Ah, well I think I vaguely remember active guys at OTS filling that out. (They also had enjppt boards) When I was picked on my AFRC board I had OTS, IFS and UPT dates all along with my acceptance email. Now this was 2014... But you have a good shot of getting laughlin just with the percentage of pilots that go through there. Here is a good start and I could be totally wrong but I haven't seen a request process. You surely won't be asked if you did nothing.

  5. I don't think that's a thing. Wasn't ever a process I was aware of, unless you have family that have needs (EFMP) that can't be met by one of the bases (I.e. Laughlin because it's a sh!t hole). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  6. I can imagine its that easy. The reserve commitment that you sign becomes valid upon package submission to the AFRC board. They can't go back and time and make you sign a different commitment, which I think is why they've realized its not enforceable for any of the boards that have already convened. I think they're happy for anyone they can coerce into re-signing due to the language of the memo, but I don't think they actually have any legal standing to enforce it unless the original commitment you sign is the "new" one. That's at least the message they're passing down to the recruiters as well. So please, ask questions before you re-sign anything!

  9. It's funny that singular argument of a scenario is used as a justification for a line of funding COA and usually ignores the exact same logic with the 5th gen argument of "what do you do for CAS in an SA-2X environment." If we are planning for every contingency and money is no object, hey great let's have all the airplanes. We unfortunately don't/can't live in that world though so 80-90% solutions have to be adopted with leaders who have the understanding and forethought that they leverage their operations to stay inside that 80-90% as best they are able.

  10. That mechanism is already in place. Those decisions are already made every day, real-time based on the situation.

  11. Course correction? You go to time out and hand over your mancard. The shenanigans I was a part of as a LT in Korea pale in comparison to today's trouble making. I miss the days of racing our spray painted beater cars down JJ taxiway half lit with the crew chiefs rooting us on. I have pics somewhere, but alas, a few of the guys are FS/CCs now, so no posting.

  12. A few more board announcements went up recently on GuardReserveJobs for tankers and the E-8 at 157th ARW, 116th ACW, and 117 ARW.

  15. Valid but "today's war" has been going on for 15 years now and will continue for the foreseeable future so I would be willing to bet we would get lots of good use out of the Scorpion in today's war.

  16. Hello everyone, I'm a long time reader and first time poster. Hopefully I can contribute to the discussion. The Vermont ANG has a board scheduled for next year. Currently flying F-16s. Hiring for the F-35. Applications open 1/2017. Deadline is 3/31/2017. Lots of good information on their .mil site. http://www.158fw.ang.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=19143
