  1. On Brexiting BO.net? I don't need you guys. I can make it on my own. In fact, fuck you all, you controlling bastards. On Brexit EU? I think that the underclass majority (non-immigrant, working class) finally got to have their say. After decades of being marginalised by a PC establishment that favours championing the rights of minority groups at the expense of everyone else, they had an opportunity to change the course the country was taking. I'm glad we're leaving. And I'm looking forward to what the future may hold.

  2. Much better to just have a fighter pilot crisis than to train folks who want to be there, and who already have knowledge of how the Air Force works, and who have some kind of airmanship already built. Certainly it's a bridge to far to train someone who has been flying for years...you have to have brand-new LTs with less than a hundred hours or nothing, right?

  3. Actually capitalizing on a stable of T-38 trained bodies by allowing them IFF slots would open up all manner of worm cans, not the least of which would lead to minor slowing of the 11F tsunami. Take your common sense elsewhere.

  4. Also, what if that individual have zero fuc&$ about making O-5? How about having dudes in your sqdn that want to be there? Who cares if he has some other stink in him/her. Even if they're only there for one tour, they still were there. Big Blue has made WAY poorer decisions in the past.

  7. EC-130H Compass Call 1. Ops Tempo / Deployment As a newly checked out copilot, you can expect to fly or sim twice a week. You will rarely be the only copilot on the sortie but scheduling does a good job balancing out who flies what (mission, proficiency or aerial refueling sorties). When you fly, you can expect a 10 hour day from showtime to debrief. On your non-flying days, you will be stuck in the office doing your day job. TDY’s are pretty rare but you will generally fly a tailswap and one large force exercise (Red Flag / WIC Spt) within your first year. We currently deploy to two overseas locations in support of both OIR and OFS. Deployments have drastically slowed down for copilots and you can expect one four month deployment for every 12-16 months. 2. Lifestyle / Family Stability Overall the community is pretty stable. The 55th ECG is the only unit that operates the EC-130H so it is not unheard of for guys to stay at DM for 7 years bouncing between squadrons. The Group is good about taking care of its own but will take out the trash if you make a name for yourself. Tucson is a nice area if you enjoy the outdoor lifestyle and is very gun friendly. The deployment and TDY schedule allow for a generous amount of family time when compared to other airframes. 3. Community Morale Community morale has been pretty good for the last 4 ½ years. The biggest gripe I hear from new copilots is the waitlist to get on the deployment schedule. Flying the Herk is relatively easy, but flying it well can be difficult at times. Unlike our slick brethren, we only complete the non-tactical portions of the syllabus at Little Rock so we are not qualified on low-levels, airdrop, airland, or NVG operations. After completing initial training at the Rock, you will get spun-up on mission and aerial refueling procedures when you arrive at Davis-Monthan. Though the flying can be monotonous at times, the downrange mission is very rewarding and you do get the opportunity fly some interesting exercises. 4. Advancements and Future The future of the community is looking relatively secure. There were rumors of losing half the fleet (seven aircraft) but it never came to fruition. We are continually upgrading our mission system to keep us relevant against new emerging threats. Half of the fleet is also receiving an avionics upgrade that is essentially replacing our legacy instruments with glass displays. Though we have not identified a formal replacement, there has been talk of a possible G550 (EC-37) as a likely contender. As stated previously, the community does a pretty good-job taking care of its own if you do not negatively self-identify. For pilots, it is generally difficult to receive a follow-on MWS assignment. Evaluator/Instructor types leaving the squadron after 6-7 years will generally get white jets to P-Cola, C-Springs or the UPT bases. Occasionally we will see RC-135’s but this usually comes with the caveat of a remote to Korea or Wg Exec time. The remainder of our follow-ons are RPA’s with a spattering of green-door/U-2 exceptions. 5. Preferred PCS Only location is Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ

  8. Ya, and what are they going to do with late Captains that only have MC-12 and T-38 IP time when they get done with the UPT gig? Not a rhetorical question. Can they (if they even want to by then) go to IFF or should they expect ISR/Heavy/RPAs?

  10. Pro-tip if this gets passed: 1. Buy the same house you would buy anyway. 2. Create an LLC, transfer title of the house into the company. 2a. (Optional) Name a friend as an employee, pay them a nominal sum if it makes you feel better. 3. Sign a contract between yourself and the company, agreeing to rent the house from the company. 4. Profit... 100% legally.

  11. Next time you are slamming down 7th Street NE in a single/two ship...look down. I will be on my stoop slugging back a beer looking up. Only comment I have is you should be lower so I can toss one up. Your late evening (2100-2300+) flights do have a tendency to piss off the neighbors with kids though (you are a lot louder than 'Eagle'# flights or the medical chopper headed over to INOVA). Cheers ATIS

  12. Concur. If you like protecting friendlies and killing enemies, you'll like the U28. And it will open your eyes to the full spectrum of our worldwide counterterrorist efforts in a way other manned platforms will not. Also the stateside flying of our PC-12 companion trainer is a blast. I took that thing to several hundred exotic and challenging locations that had never seen a plane that big (comparatively) land there.

  13. Raimius, Thanks for the reply. What type of mission does the Andrews unit currently have? Is that unit currently limited to Fairchilds and Yokota cuz I know some people really don't want Minot or Maelstrom Do the Huey typically live on base or Metro area? Thanks again.

  14. thud, First of all, thanks for adding to the discussion. Your comments bring up one important question people must ask themselves. What is your goal? You speak of RE having potential costly effects during transfers. For some, this may not be a factor and for others frankly, this may not be of any concern at all depending on what their goals are. You said that trusts cost money, but so do capital gains taxes. But these are good things, as it means you have profitable assets! I find it laughable when folks argue about not selling something because of a tax...shouldn't we all be so lucky! When you asked me about looking at something from various perspectives, not just total return or income...that may or may not be relevant to me. For some people, income is their only concern. I'm not a true income only investor, but I lean heavily this way as I am a very reluctant seller of equities (and a patient buyer...I acquire many and miss out on more by selling puts). For others, it may be total return. For anyone who plans on retiring and using the "sell 4% of my assets each year", then total return is crucial for them, since by their philosophy they need return to generate $$. For even others, it may only be to outpace the S&P 500 with whatever combination of investment vehicle. Or inflation, or whatever metric one wants to use as a measuring stick. So while your comment about confirmation bias is a somewhat intriguing one, another (equally if not more dangerous) threat in my opinion is investors constantly switching their strategy because they have no goal other than to just "make money." If the market does well, some folks get disappointed that their portfolio is struggling compared to so many others, so they switch strategies. Or conversely when the market dumps, it's tough for many to swallow such a big loss so they switch. Or they hear their friend/relative/random internet forum guys doing this or that, which works great (right now) so they switch. But more accurately, I think the fatal flaw is that they don't have any goal they are trying to achieve. Come up with a well thought out goal, whatever that may be, and then come up with a plan to get there. Then one can re-evaluate (think constantly debrief yourself) on how you can improve your plan along the way. As has been discussed on here previously by several other posters, I think the dollar cost averaging/index fund/low cost mutual fund/etf approach with a periodic rebalance is one of the best plans out there for people who want to maximize their profit potential and minimize their risk and effort put into it, while having no real "goal" set in mind. Lastly, I'm not at all familiar with RS Metrics or what they are selling. Nor am I interested in a consumer discretionary/staples portfolio only. I only used Target as an off the cuff example in an effort to not just speak in vagaries, as is often the case with investment discussions (I find). There's much more worthy of discussing, but probably not worth getting bogged down in the forum over it (such as your graph you linked, which is fine and well, albeit generic and irrelevant unless someone is maybe invested in a REIT vs. Consumer staple/disc ETF). Anyway, again thanks for continuing the discussion here as I think it's one that is severely underrepresented in this community.
