I figured you were asking for the wife....

There are jobs here, just a matter of being at the right place/right time.

Heritage Academy tuition - http://www.heritagep...-and-fees-2011/

Immanuel tuition - http://www.immanuels...ayment_plan.pdf

Regarding schools, does the part of the city/county you live in determine which school your kids goes to?

Yes

Does the Sherwood subdivision go to Caledonia?

No, Sherwood subdivision will go to the city schools. Most folks who live in Sherwood either homeschool or send to one of the private schools.

Is there a school bus route to Caledonia?

Yes....it all simply depends on where you live. My kids bus drops off/pickups right in front of the house.

Give me an idea of what you're looking for. I know several folks who have houses going up for rent/sale in both school districts which are not listed on MBO or AHRN.

Searched this thread but no luck on finding an answer.

I report to CBM in mid February. . My orders say RNLT 2400 hours on 19 Feb and that I cannot travel prior to 17 Feb. My question is since 19 Feb is a sunday I'd assume everything will be closed so who do I report in to? I'm driving from Missouri and I wouldn't be able to make it by cob on that friday (17 Feb).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, since I still have to get through AMS and IFS, but I'm trying to get a gauge of the work situation for my wife once we getto Columbus in November.

She's a medical assistant with impeccable references, so I was wondering if anyone knew what the area looks like in the way of jobs in the medical field (e.g., many offices/hospitals in the vicinity).

Thanks in advance...

Check with the Airman Family Readiness Center -- they have direct contacts with many local employers. Ask to speak with Carmine....1-662-434-2790. He should be able to help you out.

There are several potential employers in/around the Columbus

Does anybody know the policy for Columbus AFB regarding how far we are allowed to travel on weekends while training at UPT?

A friend of mine is getting married in another state and asked me to be in his wedding and I was curious as to what the process is like on leaving on friday after training and getting back that sunday.

Any would would be greatly appreciated.

As a T-6 ADO type here at CBM, I can tell you "it all depends".

Most likely this won't be a problem - go ahead and make plans, but on Day 1 of UPT, you'll be asked by your Class Commander from the 14 STURON/SQ....then, you'll also want to let your T-6 Flt/CC know as well.

I've seen guys be able to go as far away as Chicago - but again, the guy was well ahead of the timeline and was a strong student. Your circumstances may vary.

Nine-hole, multiple te boxes. No need for a driver if you can touch 300 yd (basically, typical course for $15 w/ cart)

There is the Columbus CC which has a no down payment, $150/month for military w/ a 2 yr contract. 18 hole, front nine is better than back.

ELm Lake is probably the best around here, and that's not saying a whole lot -- above avg course for Mississippi.

Mississippi State's course was also pretty decent when I was there...if you want to make a weekend of it or like driving, the Dancing Rabbit http://www.dancingra.../golfrates.html course is collocated with a casino but two-ish hours away. Also, another two-ish hours away is Oxmoor Valley http://www.rtjgolf.com/oxmoorvalley/ on the RTJ Trail and in 2009 both offered Mil discounts.. Between the Base, Elm Lake, Columbus CC and MSU, not to mention Waverly, you should have enough to keep you sharp, through your 15 hour days as an instructor or student, until you can get to the nicer courses.

Your best bet, for both Caledonia schools and a short commute - is to find a place in Oakdale Park, which is where we currently live. I don't recall if you're looking to rent or buy, but, the house next door to us just went on the market. However, the prices in ODP are seemingly overpriced due to the simple demand of the houses here (schools, proximity, etc.).

If I had to do it all over again, however, I would have moved out to Caledonia. We commute 4-5 times a week out there for school related activities, youth sports, etc. Yes, you will find yourself 30 minutes from "downtown" - but the commute is simply because of the red lights on Hwy 45.

Anything you want to do around here, you have to drive 15-30 minutes....so keep that in mind.

Anything south of Jess Lyons road is city schools.

Heritage allows you to live close to the city, but it's over-priced compared to private schools around the country and the "quality" of education you receive - from folks who send their kids there.

Are you married? If not, you'll be living on base

^^ NOT a requirement. There are a couple of apartment complexes that cater to students.

Yes there are complexes that cater to students but when I left CBM last year they were requiring all single Lts to live on base upon arrival.

You can put your name on a waiting list to move off but it is based on maintaining occupancy levels in the dorms so if you arrive during a slow time of year without many new arrivals it can take a long time for your name to reach the top of the list. However, you might get lucky and arrive during a window when the dorms are overwhelmed with new arrivals and they open it up to let anyone move off base. Basically, don't plan on living off base when you first get there but you may get lucky and will eventually have the option to move off if you choose.

You'll live in the Unaccompanied Officer Quarters (Dorms) for a few months at least. You don't get BAH until you move out.

Why in the fuck would you get HALF Bah?
It's a basic allowance for housing. Big Blue is providing the housing.
You get NOTHING.

Just the tip?
"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." — Leo Tolstoy
