I'll replace the other one...

More AF Crimes sensationalism. I think this story could have been titled "Raptor pilots frustrated with aircraft problems, miss flying normal sorties" The 'small number' of pilots referenced probably meant to say they just want the problems fixed so they can actually do their jobs. But I don't know...I don't fly them.

Sorry to disappoint...Actually General Hostage was very clear - "Gen. Mike Hostage, commander of Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., told reporters that a "very small" number of pilots have asked not to fly the fifth-generation fighter jets or to be reassigned."

No.

I saw signs of this at one of the Raptor bases months ago after they had started flying again post stand down. As a small TDY detachment, our detco had been invited to a meeting where the various squadron commanders on base brought up the biggest issues affecting their unit. He showed me the summary page that came out of it, and I remember two from a couple of the F-22 squadrons. One said something to the affect of, "The pilots lack confidence in their on board oxygen systems." Another (I think this one was from a reserves guy) said, very candidly, something like, "Our pilots are just waiting for the F-22 to kill another pilot in the wing."

Dude...

Jaded let's not go down the path of quoting bros from a TDY, months ago, something to the affect of, I think this one was from a reserve guy...etc, etc etc.

The media is the media. Hasn't Rainmain covered this one a few times?

We fly/sim with the Raptor bubbas pretty often and I can tell you that they are glad to be flying and are confidant in the jet.

I'm with Bitte and OSU on this one. These guys just want to do their job and fly.

AFA's response to F-22 criticism. A later correction stated "the F-18 and F-22 oxygen systems are similar but not the same. Still the Navy has had many, many incidences with its system." This is the first time that I've heard the "SecDef denied deployment requests" theory...and the argument that F-22s were perfect for air-to-ground work in Libya.

The latest Craptor buffoonery...

So a guy is on the ground, has hypoxia symptoms, calls ths SOF, and the SOF tells him to yank the green apple and declare an emergency.

What ever happened to pop the canopy and drop your mask?

"Open the canopy, Raptor!"

"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."

Seriously...didn't a Raptor test pilot get stuck a few years back when HAL decided that opening the canopy wasn't a good idea? They had to cut him out, causing all kinds of FOD in the cockpit. I think he was there for a few hours before they decided that the saw was the only way for him to egress.
The average fighter pilot, despite his sometimes swaggering exterior, is very much capable of feelings such as love, affection, intimacy and caring. These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Instead of some cerebral quote, I'll recommend the book "Fighter Pilot" about the legendary Robin Olds. Read it!

Hmmm - maybe because Lockheed dictates the price... I am curious to what will happen when they basically have a monopoly on the DOD aircraft (F-22, F-16, F-35). What will win with respect to the F-35 between economy of scale (which was the major "selling point") and Lockheed Martins bottom line? Hint: Not the taxpayer.

I understand that breathing toxins is harmful, but how does that equate to hypoxia [lack of oxygen] ?
