All,
I have received a lot of different suggestions / requests for changes to the forums.
Instead of making this a long protracted (military-like) process, I just jumped in and added a few new categories, and a few forums - all of which have been asked for by numerous other parties. I figured it might be easier to simply make the changes, then solicit feedback rather than wait for the GP to discuss/proivide snyde remarks/argue... Now we can work out the issues, see the changes live, and tweak as necessary. I'm open to changing/editing/reverting - but obviously, as this (like the military) is not a democracy, we won't ever get 100% consensus!
That said, let me know what you think. The overwhelming feedback of the past was the users did not want too many different forums as this would make it harder to follow/track/participate. But, with all of the tools afforded by this software (such as VIEW LATEST POSTS, TODAYS ACTIVE CONTENT etc.) it is easy to view all the latest posts in one area.
-Career Information - I created a separate forums section and seeded it with two forums (ALO and CSO); I've received requests for these and even though the population is smaller, the content will be focused and hopefully will prove useful. Keep sarcastic and Non-Value-Added (NVA) posts out.
-Road to Wings - new category to keep those topics/posts together
-a new and improved Read File section - intent here is one specific section for users to post/attach articles on: the industry, National Security, etc. Intent is for serious, pensive conversation and discussion. I receive a regular selection of Nat'l Sec articles from a friend in the IC and intend to post them for discussion purposes here (unclas/non sensitive). Let's call this Varsity-level discussion as opposed to useless inebriated drivel.
I'm open to anything and everythin. Let the comments fly!

I hate change, but this looks great.
Thanks for all you do.

Happy to try to make this place better.
Goals:
1.) Provide value-added information / vehicle to answer questions
A. Provide an area for the tyical aircrew response / humor / storytelling with sarcasm
B. And also provide an avenue for thought-provoking, serious discussion (not mutually exclusive)
2.) Pass lessons-learned information to people behind us
3.) Arrange the categories and forums into an easy to navigate, coherent product

Site looks great, and I like the changes you have made. I am interested to see how the new varsity level discussion works...
Thanks Baseops
There is something more important than any ultimate weapon. That is the ultimate position—the position of total control over Earth that lies somewhere out in space. That is the distant future, though not so distant as we may have thought. Whoever gains that ultimate position gains control, total control, over the Earth, for the purposes of tyranny or for the service of freedom.

GraveDigger,
I receive a lot of insightful articles/analyses from a good friend (experienced fella in the IC) and a helluva lot more interesting than the usual media drivel. I was hoping for some good discussion among peers beyond the usual casual banter we see here. But, the best way to keep people's "optic" serious was to separate these discussions to another forum. Anyways... we'll see if there is interest or not.

Love the idea of a serious discussion area.
P.S. - the forums look entirely different on my iPhone as of this morning. Any idea what's up with that? It's not necessarily better or worse, bigger font, different way to navigate to the latest posts in a thread, etc.

Not sure about the mobile version (ala your iPhone this AM)... simultaneously with the forums re-org, I also performed an update to the latest software; this brought about some minor cosmetic changes and additional usability from both the user perspective as well as on the mod/admin side of the house.
I'll be adding moderators to the new forums - looking for volunteers for the ALO and CSO forums (in addition to Beaver).

I'm liking the new changes, but I'm getting a few glitches in my account trying to use them.
First off, can't download the first read file on Col Boyd; says I don't have permissions.
On a related note, it says that I can't post or start new threads. Does that mean that the read file forum is going to be by invite only for posting and discussion purposes?
Tried logging out/back in.

Sorry - I edited the permissions and all should work now! All registered members have full access to post/respond/upload/download.

Baseops--I like it...and thanks for running the site/boards. Any thoughts on adding the IRC / instrument flying section we thought about a year ago?

Let's see what the other say about that - I figured flying and IRC topics could be discussed in the General Discussion section - but if folks want that broken away to a separate section, we can acommodate.
